I believe I scrapped more in 2012 than I have in the last 8 years put together. Yes, I got many stories and events in the books, some past events, some personal pages. But mostly I scrapped for fun. My 14yo gdaughter takes so many lovely photos with her ipod that they were simply irresistable. I have 2 complete albums FULL of these random pages with no stories attached - just lovely layouts. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone else have so many photos that they find themselves scrapping without stories because they MUST put pretty picture on pretty paper with pretty embellishments? Does anyone else have a teenager with 'instagram', iphone, ipod, etc. providing an endless supply of great photos? Does anyone else get totally side-tracked from their main 'projects' (mine are the annual 'family book', past lives books for my brother and me, heritage albums for mom, my 'me book') because they can't resist said photos? If so, is there a therapy group or something for this addiction? I simply don't have the space to keep making albums of these random layouts - especially considering that if 2012 was 2 albums, 2013 will probably be at least 3!
Other other question: when you take a class, what photos do you scrap? Are they always the ones for your 'projects' or do you just grab random photos to just have something to work with? What do you do with those class layouts? |

There is no wrong way to scrap. Maybe you could let your granddaughter do the journaling for the photos she takes, if that makes you feel better about it. Otherwise, just enjoy that you are productive. |

I think I always scrap for fun, but my pages are still meaningful. Lately I've only been scrapping Instagram photos, and I always include journalling and a story.
I don't believe that fun and story telling need to be mutually exclusive on a scrapbook layout. Why not
Have fun and tell a story at the same time?
It sounds like you had a very productive, enjoyable year of scrapbooking last year! That is awesome. |

I think you are over thinkging what it means to scrapbook.
The *point* of scrapbooking is to have fun. Random layouts or documented stories--it's all good.
Random layouts that make you happy and that you enjoyed assembling tell stories too. Put them in a book and call it a scrapbook.

I agree. I wish more people could let go of the "have-to" mindset or the stress of how something "should" be done and just have fun. Why have a hobby if it doesn't make you happy?
If nothing else, journal on the back of the pretty layouts and go back to having fun.  The other pictures will wait. | |

The whole idea of scrapping IS FOR FUN.
It's a hobby, not a chore like laundry.

I love to tell stories but I love to scrapbook too. It is first of all a hobby I LOVE. I wouldn't do it if it were just to document my family's life. I love combining both. Don't feel you have to to tell a story. Sometimes the photo just captures a perfect moment and your granddaughter will be reminded of it when she looks at the page. I love it when little things evoke memories that are hidden in the little drawers of our minds. |
