I have the smaller, 5 drawer one. It's not big enough for 12x12 papers or anything, but I love these drawers. I wish I had room for more of them. Even though mine is the smaller one, it holds a ton of stuff since they are so deep. I think you would really like a 9 drawer one.

We have two of the 5-drawer style for my daughter's Lego collection. They are brilliantly sturdy and are great storage units. Very solid, roll nicely, easy to open and close. I really want one for my craft stuff, but need to wait until my son is old enough not to take everything out of my drawers every 10 minutes.

I have two of the wider 6 drawer units that are on casters and LOVE them! My punches are stored in a few of the drawers, one drawer holds paints and tubes of Martha Stewart glitter (on their sides so I can see the colors), two more hold stamp inks, one is for my Silhouette supplies (cutting mats, etc. since the Silhouette sits on top of one- the sewing machine is on the other), and stencils are in yet another drawer. They hold a TON of stuff and are a great solution for flat items.

I have the 6 drawer one and I it. I am going to go buy me another one. I use mine to hold punches. The next one will hold my rubber stamps.

I have 1 and I love it. I have stamps in mine. It is a great way to have them spread out to where you can see what you have. I have different themes in different drawers.. You will love it, very well made and worth the money. I would love to have another one..

You guys are a bunch of enablers, so now that I have decided to get one which one should I get? My main purpose is my punches and other misc stuff. I was thinking of the 6 drawer one on casters or the tall unit that is skinny. Any suggestions?

I have the six-drawer one on casters. I am able to fit all of my punches in the bottom drawer. The drawers move smoothly and are spacious. It was a great addition to my space.

The top of it is a nice work surface, too. I keep my laminater there. For those with die cut machines, it would be a great place to set that up. too.

Does anyone have the measurements for the inside of the drawers for both units (6 drawers vs 9). Aside from punches I am trying to decide what else to move in there and I will need some measurements for that. DH might pick it up for me (he goes by it all the time) and I want to pick the right one.

I just got the six drawer one for Christmas and love it!
I am not home or I would measure the inside of the drawer for you.

For dimensions of the product, go to the IKEA.com website. Put in ALEX in the search field and you will have two choices. The page with either 9 drawer one or the one on casters has all the dimensions.

The tall (9 drawer) ALEX cabinet says it is 14 1/8inches wide.

Does anyone know if you can fit 12x12 inch scrapbook paper flat in the drawers?

(I'm not seeing the inside dimensions of the drawers themselves.) Obviously, with the 6 drawer one, there shouldn't be any problem using it for paper storage. This looks like a great storage idea!

I am pretty sure the 9 drawer unit will not hold 12 x 12 paper. I think I saw something about that I need measurements of the drawers including the height of each. I like the look of the 6 drawer unit but I am concerned that the drawers will be too shallow for my other stuff. I was also thinking the 9 drawer unit may hold my stamps which are organized in special binders that are A2 size.

I am thinking of getting the taller 9 drawer for my punches...has anyone used it for this? Is it sturdy enough or will the bottom give way?

Bon

I, too, would love to know the inside-drawer measurement for the tall 9-drawer version, to determine whether it will fit 12x12 paper. I'm trying to decide between that and the 6-drawer...

The 9 drawer = No it will not fit 12x12.

Insides:
W= 11 1/2"
L= 16 1/2"
Both with just a tiny, tiny leeway.

Drawers depths (insides):

Small ones Approx 2 1/2" high with about another 1/2" leeway from the drawer above.

Larger ones: Approx 4 1/2" high, again with about 1/2" additional leeway.

I use some drawers for my punches, just fine. This is much sturdier than a Michaels Recollections cube.

I bought the 6 drawer Alex yesterday at Ikea, put it together while watching the Golden Globes last night, but sadly it is missing one of the drawer bottoms. I love it other than that, it's bigger than I thought but oh so perfect for my 12X12 paper. Put my cameo on it and it's so convenient to have the paper right there.
Thanks Peas for enabling once again!
