Thru the years my cropping friend have stopped and I have quit going to crops. I crop at home but would like to go to a crop. I am hesitant because I worry about being a loner in a room full of groups of friends.

I went by myself to a CM crop and the consultant sat me next to her. I have since become friends with a couple of people from this twice a year crop. I did attend a crop alone at my LSS. I found everyone to be very friendly. People asked me if I would like to go eat with them and tried to include me in their conversation. I say go for it once.

All the time! I have many friends who are card makers that I crop with, but no one who scraps. So I go solo to scrap events.

Scrapers are a very friendly bunch and even if I don't know anyone at the start of the crop, I always do by the end.

Yup, I do. I'm friends with my less owner, and have fun chatting with the other ladies at the crop. Although I'm pretty sure they've labeled me as "that chatty, sahm who clearly needs more adult interaction"

But, I introduced them to glitter girl, so guess I'm not THAT bad...right?

I say go for it, but bring your iPod with headphones, just in case...

Yup. Found it on the Internet. They were some of the warmest, most welcoming women I have ever met. I now crop with them once a month, and we do a big 3-4 day getaway twice a year.

Yes I do and I love it--especially when there is a hotel involved and no 3 year old cute toddler waking me up in the morning In all seriousness, I really do enjoy that time to myself. Matter of fact, there is one crop I really enjoy attending and it is 2n/3d. My SIL (who I love dearly) wants to attend with me. Of course I want her to attend with me, but also going to miss the "not knowing anyone time." There is something to be said for that.

Yes I have! I am a shy person by nature. Met a great Pea and her friends are fabulous to scrap with. I can't wait until we go again in a few months.
Plus they introduced me to a couple of great LSS in a nearby city

I am hoping to have found a semi-local group to crop with in the next month or so. I have never met any of them IRL, but one of the ladies is a pea. I am sooo looking forward to it!

I just did recently and I flew half way across the country to do it! I had a wonderful time and the ladies I sat with were all awesome!

Same here! Last October I flew to Springfield and then drove to Branson to attend Scrapbook Generation's weekend retreat. I went by myself not knowing anyone else who would be there.

Had a blast. The ladies at my table were truly a joy to crop with. It was a much needed mini-break for me.

I am going to a weekend crop in Ohio in March where I will drive 9 hours each way to crop with ladies I've never met. I can't wait!

I always figure worse case scenario I'll pop in the ear buds, listen to an audio-book and get some major scrapping done.

I have, both at my LSS and at Archiver's. I enjoyed it, but then I'm a loner by nature. At A's last week I took my headphones and music. I still chatted occasionally, for some reason, the pair across from me seemed blown away by me using a stapler or my silhouette or mist. And I was seated next to another lone wolf. Everyone was nice.

I say go for it. I responded to a "where are you from" thread on here and had a local pea contact me. The funny thing is we are from a tiny little town of about 5000. I was so excited! We will meet IRL at a crop next weekend.

I forgot to tell ya i'm doing my first crop here in Tucson and I'm going solo. I met a lady in the target Isle checking the christmas stuff on sale. We chat and she told me about a monthly crop.
I'm also might end up solo at the scissors and the City here if a Pea doesn't make it and I'm ok with that.

And maybe ask the organizer if you could be seated with some other singles?

I have several times....most times it's awesome....I have to agree that having alone time in a hotel to just chill at night..... VERY relaxing! By the end of the crop tho I was a little lonely...but that's because I was on day three of being by myself.

Other times going alone, I have many new friends and have a blast! Just depends on who you're seated with I think!

I do not go to crops very often, but when I do it is usually that way. I don't have very many IRL scrapbooking friends, and I usually "crop" when my DH needs to go to Los Angeles, and so he will have my company part of the way, drops meoff at an LSS somewhere between here and there.

I am a solo cropper...been to many crops at LSS alone. Matter of fact, I don't have any friends that scrapbook, so I always go alone! I have always chatted with the folks around me and had a good time. I do always bring ear buds and a book d/l to iPhone just in case...never have had to use it.
My LSS owner sold last year and moved out of the country (husband's job took them...) and now have no crops to attend! Waaaahhhh!
I always enjoyed the crops, and always met nice people. Go for it!

Yes and I think it is a great way to meet new people and get more work done. When I go with friends I sometimes spend as much time chatting as working, lol. I love to crop with friends, but there are benefits to going solo!

I went to 2 crops so far and didn't know anyone and ended up having a blast. I am a pretty shy person too. I am going to another crop in a couple weeks and I might know one person if they don't bail out on going but i am okay with that.

I have, but, I am more of a worker than a chatter. It's the only way you will find a scrapping buddy. It takes time and the guts to put yourself out there.

Go for it. And, keep going for it.

I went to a local crop solo and it was fine; the group fell apart though so I've been cropless for about a year now.

I have, I don't have any scrappy friends. A few times i sat by women I had nothing in common with(they taked about their sons football for 12 hours) I would listen to an audio book for some of the time. I asked the person running it if she could move me next time and I did meet some nice ladies. I have found a few of the groups on meetup.com.

I have done it a few times, and my experiences vary a lot! Mostly , people are friendly, but I once went to a crop which was extremely "cliqueish" when I tried to talk to people, theyjust turned their backs on me and ignored me completely. Go for it! Bring an iPod or something, and just decide you are going to have a good time no matter what

I've gone and never had any bad experiences... I do find that sometimes certain tables 'belong' to a group of regulars so I usually ask the instructor/store owner if there's a best spot for me to sit - I never felt like it would be a problem, I just feel self conscious about the attention that comes with it... I prefer to hide out a bit until I see everyone's personalities

I agree with the Peas that said they get more done... I can actually finish stuff if I'm
not there with my mom, and I usually can make it out without buying more stuff too

I have done this - yes - more than once. In town, out of town.

Really, the majority of people in this hobby are very friendly and cordial. Sometimes you encounter cliques at crops and then next time just ask to sit in a different area.

I have met great people and made new friends. I even think mixing it up and LOOKING for new friends can be invigorating. {I mean, am I the only one that sometimes says, "How DID I get mixed up with this people??!!" and searches for a new group? I cannot really tolerate negative nellies for too long....I digress.....}

So, yes, I have and I have loved it and I recommend it.

All the time! I have a lot of friends who scrap but our schedules never seem to mesh up. I tend to get a LOT done at crops - and when I don't know anyone there, I don't chat as much and am even more productive! I've got a big all-day crop coming up next month, it looks like I'll be going solo to that as well.

I go alone all the time. Most of my scrapping friends live no where near me. We usually try to get together once a year for a long weekend. The rest of the time I either scrap at home alone or try to find local crops with people I don't know since my LSS closed. My work schedule is a problem as well, I work nights and a lot of weekends so I am not always available when crops are being held.

I went a few months ago by myself and was seated with three women who knew each other. They introduced themselves to me and chatted a little. They even took time to ooh and aah over some of my layouts so I didn't feel left out. This coming weekend, I'm going to a 3-day crop by myself also. If I go alone, I know I'll get layouts done and maybe I'll meet some new friends also.

I have not (I've never been to a crop at all), but I'm trying to work up the courage to try it out! I found a Meetup group in a town that is about a 20 minute drive from me, and it looks like the woman who runs it is a consultant who holds crops once a month or so. I have all sorts of silly anxieties about it, but I should step out of my comfort zone and just do it!

Yes. It was actually a 2 peas local crop (well sort of local - about an hour's drive LOL). I sort of knew a few but only online, not IRL and to me it wasn't really much difference.

I don't really like group situations so if I were to go I'd go knowing I was likely going to be a loner. I don't fit in very well. But everyone was still nice.

I do this all the time! When I do go to my local loss to crop, I don't know anyone but I go anyway. Sometimes the people there are friendly, sometimes it is a stick to yourself kind of thing. I am much more productive when I'm not jabbering though!

Sometimes I just need some me time so I will pack it up and just go!

I've been to 1 crop and I didn't know anyone there. This was a huge crop that was a charity fundraiser. Other than a weird experience with a group of ladies at another table, everyone else was very nice. Although some people know others, not everyone in the room is a close friend to everyone else in the room. I don't mind going to places by myself.

You can get a lot done, in fact, I won the grand prize for most pages completed.

I make small talk with others around me. It can be VERY interesting to listen to others talk, then someone leaves the room and the whispering begins!!

I agree with the suggestion about requesting a space near the consultant or organizer or owner, if you are hesitant about attending.
