I'm finding myself behind. I just finished up my DD today, so happy to be finished.
Next, I'm tackling my kid's albums that are behind since June 2012, so six months. Should I start from June and work my way to present or work on Fall/Halloween and go back??
Trying to decide is making me procrastinate.

Neither. Although, I do scrap a lot of my photos as soon as I can, most get pushed aside for other things. I scrap whatever suite my fancy. When a photo was taken makes no difference as to when I scrap them. |

I alternated between old and new until I ran out of old photos. |

I agree with KiKiPEA, I scrap whatever makes me happy. It's very freeing to not think about being behind and just scrap whatever you feel like scrapping |

When I first started scrapping, I started with current pictures and when I was current with those, I went back and scrapped older photos. Over the course of a few years I was able to scrap all the old pictures I wanted to yet keep current with my new photos.
These days I generally run about 4-6 months "behind".

To get over feeling guilty at being behind in my hobby, I've just started scrapping whatever I'm in the mood to work on. Sometimes it's vacation photos, other times birthdays, and not in any particular order either. |

I also scrap whatever makes me happy because I don't care about being behind... If I did I'd probably be too stressed about scrapping and not create anything! But if you're that current, I'd go with present to past because the memories are fresher... But I might throw in an older one every now and again too! |

I pick my favorite and jump around from there, but if you are determined to do them in chronological order then I agree with the posters who said to go from present to past so you can get your newest memories scrapped while they are fresh.

I was three years behind and went to "catch up" and I found I rushed through some layouts and didn't do my best work. Even though I was caught up, I was disappointed with the caliber of my work in some cases. |

I scrap a little of this then a little of that. There is no rhyme or reason. I just pick pictures that I like at the moment and that is what I work on. So on any given crop weekend you may see me working on baby pictures from 20 years ago, pictures of my grandson, and anything in between.
I would work on whatever interests you at the moment. To me it takes the fun out of scrapbooking when you feel forced to work on certain pictures. |

Can I suggest that you take an afternoon and sit in front of your pictured and jot down notes. You think you will remember it all but over time the fall down funny stories just become who what &why. Then like others have mentioned try and scrap what makes you happy |

In any order I choose. I flip all over the past century, depending on what speaks to me. Unless the photos are new, I'm usually inspired by a story and pull photos to go with it. And if I am working with shiny new photos, I'm usually scrapping them by what inspires me most, rather than any particular order. |

Thank you for all your feedback! I usually do past to present but like some posters, I rush through it and don't enjoy it to get to the current stuff. I think I"ll try something different this time and jump around to whatever I want to work on and maybe work out better for me.

I work through my newest supplies and newest photos first, but if one doesn't work with the other, I have a stack of photos and stacks of papers that I can pull from. Somehow it's more fun to scrap the newest memories...and I remember more about them to boot! But I would feel terribly constrained if I went in ANY sort of order.
I suggest you pick through your photos for those that are either super meaningful or fun and go from there.
As for being "behind", I had 25 years worth of family photos before I ever heard about scrapbooking! |

I actually am only doing current photos in order, the older ones only when I feel like it. Current photos means that the last LO I finished, day before yesterday, was of Dec. 1 and then I will progress the rest of the way through December ending with some I took on Dec. 30. (I have not taken any photos in January I want to scrap, primarily because on Jan. 1 and 2 I was using my improperly loaded film camera)
When I first started scrapbooking in 2001, I started with my wedding photos (2000) and worked forward, and from then on for the most part kept up with current photos. I also started with my oldest photos, which were from my teen-age years, and worked forward. In 2003, I was scrapping photos from 1994, but a combination of things stopped me from moving forward. 1) I was also scrapping DH's photos, but they were not in order and every time I thought I had finished those from a trip he took in 1987, I found more. 2) My XH took way too many photos when we went to the Grand Canyon in 1994, and I just couldn't keep thinking of new creative ways to scrap photos of the canyon. 3) Life got in the way and I ended up not scrapbooking for eight months, at the end of which time I had to spend quite awhile catching up on "current" (by then, almost a year old photos), and 4) I became really enamored with the Two Peas challenges, but on quite a few of them, if I wanted to participate, I couldn't limit myself to specific photos.
So, I decided then that I would do my best to stay current with the current photos, but give myself permission to take breaks from that and scrap any photos that fit with challenges. |

I tend to lean towards current because are those are what are on my desk. I typically am able to find something in them that a. strikes a chord to scrap or b. feel like i need to get done to get it off my desk. On the latter note, I gathered up all my son's football pics from this fall & pulled page protectors last night. I also got one 12 x 6 insert done. There are around 60 photos, most will just go in photo sleeves but I picked a couple of different protectors to mix it up a bit & force me to put some inserts in to jazz them up a little.

I try to scrap current and if the supplies I am using are a certain theme or seasonal, I will check to see if I have something from the past to scrap along the same theme or season.
For example, if I was scrapping current football season pictures, I check in my past "to do" list to see if I have any past football seasons to scrap.
About 1 or 2 times a month, I scrap something from the past.

I jump around and do whatever I find inspiring. If I find myself skipping certain pictures over and over I put them in a photo album instead. |

I'm not much help but I am in the same boat as you with lots of old and current pics to scrap. I find that if I scrap what I am in the mood to scrap the pages come out so much better. They eventually get up in an album in chronological order. Sometimes I'll sit down and do several years worth of team pictures or sports all at one time. That way I have all of my sports themed papers and embellies out and don't have to look back and make sure the layouts don't look the same!
Good Luck!
