Michel is my avatar, that picture was taken on his 8th birthday.

Michel was born 11 years ago today, January 15. He had a milder case of hydrocephalus, water on the brain, than his other sister had. She had seizures and died at about one month old. The vet gave Michel maybe a couple of months to live. He was 2 months old when I brought the 4 of them home. My friend said to take him home and love him until he dies. We had NO idea that I'd have him NINE years and 5 days from the take home date. He was special needs, from the age of 3 on, he was on children's DHA to prevent seizures and I had to make sure he had lots of attention. We later realized that suddenly having to work 6 days a week is what triggered the beginning of the seizures. He could take the stress of me working out of the home 5 days a week, but not 6. DHA limited them to about 1 mild seizure a year. Sitting in my lap when I first got home (I'd sit at the computer and pea with Michel in my lap!) was the best medicine for him! I'd STILL probably be a long way from 5,000 IF it hadn't been for Michel wanting my attention and I preferred to pea instead of watching TV.

If you are still with me, the Michel's Mom started with Creative Impressions, a stamping and scrapping store that used to be in the Old Colorado City part of Colorado Springs, between Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs. You just might have some eyelets from years ago that have a Creative Impressions name on it! They are still in business but only online. I was NOT allowed in the store UNLESS I brought Michel in with me. One of the ladies would take him upstairs to visit the ladies in the office while I shopped downstairs. Since I lived 65 miles away, I didn't get into town much and would frequently call to see if something was in stock. They'd offer to hold it for me and when I went in the first time, they had Michel's Mom written on the bag! They apologized and said they forgot my name! I laughed and said, well, he thinks I AM his mom and he is my little boy. After that, it was always our little joke.

One time I needed something and wanted it shipped, they were joking that they were going to send it to Michel's Mom, not to Angie .... I told them that it would NOT be a problem because my tiny little post office would know exactly WHO it was for even if they forgot to put my PO Box number on it! She did address it to Michel's Mom and I still have the box, I opened it from the BOTTOM because they made such a pretty scrapbooked label! I'm getting ready to scrap a page with a picture of the box label and the two pictures that have Michel with two of his favorite ladies at Creative Impressions.

I've loved all my Dachshunds but Michel and Sugar Plum were SPECIAL, they were more like my children. Both were more needy and had more fragile health than all the rest of my dogs EVER combined.

Anyway, today IS Amanda, Davy and Trouble's (Benji) 11th birthday and would have been Michel's 11th. Today, my title is Michel's Mom and after tomorrow, he will share the title with Sugar Plum.

If you are still with me and want more info, here is more!

I picked the names Amanda and Michelle for my daughters when I was 10 years old. I never had children but was determined to use the names. I love all my dogs but as I said, Sugar Plum and Michel were special, they were my children I always said Plum was my doghter and Michel was my baby boy. Both were had special needs, Plum was healthy for the most part but went blind suddenly just before turning 10. I then because a seeing eye person. She also had a tumor on her leg that went bad and was removed at 14 and a few other problems.

Michel had everything in the world wrong with him (water on the brain, half-moon pupils, underbite on both top and bottom, picky digestive system, heart wasn't formed right, etc) but was the happiest little dog you ever saw, he never met a stranger and though the sun rose and set on me. Oh, the most he ever weighed was 6-1/4 pounds. I needed him because when I took him and his siblings home, it was just 6 months after my DH died and I was living in the absolute middle of nowhere and not sure what to do with the rest of my life and where I needed to move. They gave me a reason to get up in the morning and earn enough to keep us fed. My website was a literal God send, getting orders from my custom ceramics AND making penguin ceramics and wedding cake tops and accessories for Penguin Gifts in Manitou Springs kept food on our table until I moved. I wore Michel in my jacket while I worked, I'm convinced that is why he survived the first few months.

*********
So, I've been posting and NOT deleting before I hit submit!

Anyway, about 3 weeks ago I suddenly realized what I wanted my new pea title to be and that I had a month to make it happen by January 15, which ties in to my new pea title.

I'll tell the story when I get the new title on January 15. Next Tuesday, I hope to unveil my new title! Won't mean anything to maybe only 2 or 3 peas that I know but means a lot to me.

Those of you who have gotten a new title, is it something automatic once you hit 5,000 and that I can change myself AS SOON AS I hit 5,000 or do I have to get two peas involved to change it?

I really really want my new title to show up on January 15.
THANKS!

Well since I have been on this board almost 12 years, and I only have 160 posts, I definitely will never make 1000, much less 5000.
I am a fairly laid back person, but I am amazed at some of the attacks on this board. It does make a person hesitant to comment on anything.
But I have also found some of the kindest, most helpful folks on this board. My questions are always answered, shopping help was quickly offered, and advice rendered quickly.
I almost left last March. I wrote about my personal experience with Nancy from SDV after 14 trips to her crops....boy, did I get eaten alive!...LOL Sensitive subject, I guess.

WOW! is all I can say! I think everyone should send you a prize, like one piece of paper - just think of all the new scrapbook paper you would have!!!

By the way: I LOVE your PUPPIES!!! they are SO cute!

I also love the photo of the beautiful Weim that another poster has, I am such a dog lover - that is what got me into scrapbooking. I started scrapping my springer. He is now gone, but still the love of my life.

BEFORE I hit submit, I have 25 left... I've been so weak and sick that I've only got out of bed to go to the bathroom. I've finally actually felt like eating something besides bananas, cream of wheat and bland mashed potatoes.

It was only Bushes Baked Beans, or as they are known in MY family as dog beans because of the cute commercials they had with the dog. At least I'm SLOWLY on the road to recovery, I don't feel like sleeping all day and all night!

Got to get busy and finish my 5,000!

I finally got up and dragged myself in here for a bit. If I can't get the energy to sit at the computer for a while, no way can I go to work and stand up for 8 hours.

For the first few minutes, it was "service unavailable"! I thought OH NO, Two peas is going to foil me at the last minute! I want to get my 5,000 today so I can change my title first thing in the morning!

HERE IT IS!!! POST 5,000!!! Over TEN years in the making!

I decided since I started on General Scrappin' long before I knew NSBR was here, that I should do my 5,000 post HERE especially since I actually DO scrapbook!

This has been a very eventful 10 years, my life started falling apart over 11 years ago, first my 16 year old Sugar Plum (and if you wanted kids and didn't have them, Dachshunds make a good substitute). Hey, don't tell me different, I don't want to know. And yes, if you look at the names below, you might have figured out I planned to name my daughters Amanda and Michelle. Fortunately, since there was only one girl puppy survivor, Michel is also a boys name.

Anyway, as I was getting over her death, my beloved DH died. We were getting ready to start scrapbooking our life together. Of course, we'd always took pictures, but were saving memorabilia, deciding what style to do our books in. late DH was as much into getting started as I was.

I had to decide where to go and what to do, couldn't afford to stay in remote Colorado BY MYSELF in an RV on 30 acres. I had planned to go back home to Louisiana but I hadn't lived there in over half my life. The ONLY place that EVER felt like home OTHER than north Louisiana was here in Ruidoso. I still had friends here that were like family, so I sold out and moved back here 9 years ago Christmas Eve.

GREATEST Christmas Present ever, a new house for Christmas. That was my friends goal, to get me home for Christmas. It has been a long haul and I remarried 5 years ago on New Year's Eve. I lost 3 dogs since then, Jeannie the Chiweenie Aug 2004, Michel March 20, 2011 and Onkita (the black and tan, her picture disappeared) June 13, 2012.

So here is post 5,000, thought I'd NEVER get here!!!

I'll debut my new pea title in the morning IF I can figure out how to change it!

Congrats!
And, wow, what an amazing story! I read through all of it (and got all teared up) and I was struck by how happy and strong you sound despite all those hardships that you and your dogs, esp. Michel, have gone through. Awesome! Thank you for sharing that story with us! I will think of it every time I see you post here and that cute pic of happy Michel in your avatar.

Congratulations!! I've loved looking at your little pile of fur family since I started here. That is awesome - it'll take me 20 years to make it at the rate I'm going.

Loved reading your story - hope you are feeling better.

Thanks! I went to work today but still so weak from this stuff that I only stayed two hours. In fact, when I walked up, she asked me what was wrong and did I want to go home. IF I had a sitdown job, could have lasted longer.

I'm unveiling the extra pictures to my siggy. I'll have to scan a picture of Peaches. Since ALL of the other Dachshunds are now part of the siggy, Peaches should really be on here since SHE started my Dachshund obsession. She was the 7 week old part-Dachshund that I found on the side of the road, across from a peach orchard. One look and I was in LOVE! A couple of weeks later, I took a good look at her body that had stretched out and her legs that had NOT grown a bit and said: "Peaches! You didn't tell me you were a weenie dog!"

She was only a little bit Dachshund but I found out what I liked best about her WERE Dachshund personality traits.

Jeannie the Chiweenie, she is my "link" dog, she is the ONLY one that knew ALL my family in the last 22 1-/2 years with the exception of my current DH. She showed up as a throw-a-way 10 days before I left Texas and moved here, followed me to Colorado and back. Had just enough Dachshund to have the shorter legs and longer body, not sure what kind of dog her personality came from... dumb as a box of rocks but loved me passionately at first sight.

The picture below is of Michel's "birth mom". I took this picture of her and was always my friends favorite picture of Tunie. Tunie KNEW Michel was NOT supposed to survive long because EVERY time we went for a visit for nearly 2 years before we moved, she was anxiously looking for him the moment the others ran in the door. She was so excited when she spotted him, she'd run over and sniff him all over to make sure he was ok. I wish I'd taken a movie of that, it was so cute...

That is such a touching story. I would be glad you finally made it to the land of the choose your own title in any case, but to have reached your goal of honoring the memory of your very special dogs with this makes me way even much happier for you! My BIL and his wife live in Old Colorado City, so I enjoyed reading about your experiences at an LSS there, having just visited the community on Christmas Eve.

Thanks for indulging me this week and letting me talk about my babies, especially today. Michel's siblings enjoyed their birthday feast. I did find out the names of the two ladies in the Creative Impressions picture with him so that I can add that to his album. I can not figure out HOW I forgot their names, but when Janet started mentioning names, it was YES!

I did a little bit of work on his album last year on his birthday but I'm now at the point to where I can go full speed ahead and not cry TOO much. Now, if I can just get the time. Main thing I need is time to rearrange everything in the craft room so I can have several projects going at the same time.

One thing that I learned at Two Peas and it was probably 10 years ago was to write down ALL the nicknames to my pets. Fortunately, it hadn't been long since Sugar Plum died so that I was able to remember and write down all her nicknames. I've tried to keep up with all the nicknames, some come and go and others hang on always!
