My mother once gave me a package of foam sheets in horrible colors. I tried to use them, I really did. But every time I looked at the neon green, neon orange and dark purple I wanted to toss them. It took me several years, but I finally did it...lol What about you?

My grandsons 1st birthday was last Aug. His party was owl themed and my DD had me make cupcake toppers, gift bags & his birthday hat with my Cricut. The colors were turquoise, lime green and brown...they turned out so cute. His Nana(who is a friend) bought me stickers of owls to use on my pages of his b-day(we both scrap). They are gold & so ugly, lol. I have put them in my give away pile and hope that she never asks me about them.

YIKES! I feel guilty but not enough to use them

Two scrapbook-in-a-box type kits that came with albums (funky non-standard sized mustard and royal blue in this bizarre linen texture ) and a bunch of seriously unattractive papers and cut apart embellishments.

I believe her heart was in the right place... she knew I loved to scrapbook and was trying to get me something scrappy... but they were pretty awful. In the end, I couldn't find a single piece to salvage and I gave the whole thing to my daughter (who was thrilled ).

Every year for Christmas and my birthday my husband would go to walmart and buy those scrapbook kits by Colorbok.
You know...the ones that come with the flimsy PAPER (not cardstock), horrible embellishments, and ugly 12x12 albums.
Some may like Colorbok but no matter how hard I tried - I just couldn't get past the fact that they weren't at all my style and everything about them felt cheap.

I finally broke down and told him this year that I didn't like them and I'd rather him know than waste his money.
He was fine with it and the next birthday after I told him - he bought me Echo Park paper packs. He said he went looking through my stash to see what 'name brands' I liked.

Mists. The first one I received was a metallic gold that didn't show up on anything. Then I got a blue mist and a red mist and when I use them they both look like I spilled something on my page. I thought I was mist impaired until I started looking at other people's layouts and realized that I just don't care for the mist look.

I got some of those kits with the really flimsy ugly papers and die cuts. I recently gave the die cuts to my three year old to use to make a little art project. I really hate those kits.

One Christmas my husband bought me a large wooden bucket full of deco scissors that he purchased at Costco. I think it was a $30 item. I hated them and I just couldn't see wasting that $, so I told him that I really didn't care for them and would like to take them back. I purchased a different scrappy product with the $ and was happy with that. Dh will still bring that up though, every Christmas when he says I'm hard to buy for because I take things back. I'm not, and I don't. We've been together over 20 years and only twice have I ever really not liked and taken a gift back. He just uses that as an excuse because he wants me to just tell him what to get and not have to put any thought or guesswork into it.

I have a love/hate relationship with some texture plates (like embossing folders but much harder to use) my DSD gave me five years ago. Until last year, I primarily hated them, but in 2012 I made several cards and art journal pages with them that I liked a lot.

I also received some photorealistic papers from her that year, and they are now in a bag of stuff I keep meaning to donate to my friend the preschool director, but now I hear that kind of paper is making a comeback? I still don't know when I could bring myself to love the ones she gave me though. She gave me two other sheets of paper that weren't photorealistic, and they're long gone now. The photorealistic ones have probably been hanging out here way too long!

gutspiel, you are talking about the Blade Runner. At the time I bought it, about 10 years ago, I couldn't AFFORD to buy something I couldn't use. I practiced and practiced with it and figured out tricks to use it. I combined that with OTHER peoples tricks posted here and CKMB and posted them here and CKMB.

Possibly, if you searched real hard, you might find my list of tricks floating somewhere around the internet! I was doing a search one time back then and found it pop up all over the place!

Haven't used it in years, haven't needed to, have tons of dies now.

Hmmmm.....there are so many!!!

Mother in law bought me some hideous stickers from a crowd called penny lane.....they were so dusty, I am sure they had been in the shop forever. Coupled with some very old fashioned papers.....did nothing for me

I have a relative who buys me craft things from cheap shops, I know that she means well and I really do appriciate the thought but I have never used a sigle one of the things that she has bought me just not my taste or style but my daughter loves them.

I was given a big lot of Creative Memories stuff years and years ago and I got rid of the papers but I did keep a couple of the tools. In that lot was a small photo trimmer, I despised that thing and could never get the hang of it.

A big stack of papers from a relative who smokes like a chimney.

It stunk up my car on the way home.
It stunk up my garage while I tried to destink it with some charcoal.
It stunk up my garbage can when I finally gave up on it.

This year she gave me a border punch. I threw away the packaging at her house, and I left the punch outside for a couple of days, and it's now ok. Much better than paper!

A huge, heavy clunky punch that punches out a baby crawling. Still have it because I cannot throw anything paper craft related away.

Any themed paper pad from a big-box craft store.

I know people mean well, but I'm just not a theme-y scrapper.

There isn't much I hate, but those MM paints were too messy for me; just got rid of the last bottle at the LSS yard sale.

The other thing would have to be the blade runner. Never used it at all.

A mini paper cutter. That thing never cut a straight line in its life. I finally just threw it out because I couldn't bear to give it away and have someone else as frustrated as I was.

I just had a very sweet friend gift me a paper stack. Not only is the motif not at all my style but the colors are just awful. I am trying so hard to use up some old stacks I bought years ago and now there is a brand new ugly one in my space. Ack!

Sometimes people in complete kindness who find out I scrapbook get really themey things for me -- stickers of baby bottles when I had my first baby, that sort of thing. It just isn't stuff I use. "Absolutely hated" is probably strong language for it for me.

When I first started this hobby, my mom once bought me a scrapbook in a box kit from Walmart that was horrible. It was an 8 1/2 by 11 size, and full of the punch out die cuts in pastel colors. It was totally not for me. I did throw together a couple layouts using it just so I didn't appear to be ungrateful for the gift. Soon after I created and showed them to my mom, I removed the photos and threw away the remains of the layouts. The rest of the kit was re-gifted to a niece who was just starting out. My mom has since noticed my larger 12 by 12 scrapbooks now as well as my massive collection of supplies and all future craft related gifts have been gift cards. lol

I feel really guilty about my answer to this question..........

DH means well.... He really does.
He allows me to scrapbook and even buys things to support my SB habit, sometimes very expensive gifts.

Last Christmas he purchased me the Cricut Imagine. I already own the Expression and I use it quite a bit. For some reason I just can't wrap my head around why I would use the Imagine to print paper when there is so much wonderful paper already out there. I think I have used it once..... It just sits there on the shelf, neglected and lonely. People keep telling me that I would love it if I just tried learning how to use it, but I really don't think I want to.

A sweet former coworker gave me wedding-themed sheets of PP and Jolee's stickers. The papers are lovely, but I do not plan to scrap my wedding album, they are not my style, and what can I do with 4-5 sheets anyway? I'll try to use them on a regular LO someday. It was a very sweet gesture and I definitely don't hate it, it's just not very useful.

Scrap supplies are so personal IMO. So unless you know exactly what a person wants I wouldn't buy them actual items as gifts. That's why when my friend called me asking for suggestions for her secret santa who is a scrapbooker I instantly said
2peas giftcard!" Needless to say, the secret santa was ecstatic =)

A good friend got me the ribbon holder - can't think of the name of it - it's like a makeup bag with holes punched in everywhere. I hate it! And I feel so badly because it was expensive and I know she paid full price for it!
