Any time I made a layout I would just stick in an album, but I did not care for the way it looks. I want to convert to chronological (which isn't that hard I only have 48 Layouts) but not scrap in chronological order. So my question is should I get an album for every year of photos?
TIA

I keep layouts in chronological but scrap what I want. I get an album for each year. I prefer to look at it in that order, a lot of times I get questions about pictures from a certain time period and it is easier to pull that way.

I find that I scrap enough to have a decent amount in each year. I would say that if u find yourself with only a handful of layouts maybe do it by a couple years in an album, like 2010-2012, etc.

I don't scrap chronologically, but I store chronologically. I do have albums for each year. And I also have other albums for trips and special things that don't get stored in the regular yearly albums. I also use 3 ring albums. It makes it much easier to rearrange pages.

Generally I will scrap a chunk of time at once and then put the pages into the correct albums. I like pulling older photos of when my now teen sons were little and nicer. It reminds me of why I love them. And I like to scrap current stuff too, so I can get my stories down before I lose them. But I would drive myself batty having all the assorted timeframe pages in the same album.

I need them stored by year, not of when I scrapped them. So storing them chronologically helps me with my need for organization but also my need of scrapping what I want when I want.

I keep my LO's in chronological order, but scrap whatever I want. I keep them in one album, and only add another album as I run out of room. This way, I don't have 10 half filled albums on the shelf.

It really depends on how many photos you have, and also how many of those you seriously think you will scrap. I started scrapbooking in 2001. The years before then, and even those for several years after that, I have organized into one book covering multiple years. From 2005 to 2010, I have one year, one book. 2011 is the year, I so far took the most photos, so I have one book covering up to mid-July and another book covering mid-July through December. For 2012, I have everything up to October in one book, and a book for Thanksgiving through Dec. 30 will be in another one, which I have not finished yet.

I've had to make a few theme books for it to work. For instance, there is no way I could have put the years 2007 - 2010 in one book a year if I had not pulled out all the photos from vacations we went on those years and put them in scrapbooks specifically about vacations. I also made one specifically about my DSD's senior year of college in 2004, and her wedding in 2009.

I try to fit what I can in one album. I use posts, so I buy longer posts at the hardware store to replace the smaller ones they come with. I scrap all my pics, so at this point I can only fit 2 years in one. I don't do it by calendar year, but by age group. (Right now I'm scrapping for my kids, so their albums are based on their birthdays.) The albums end with a birthday. So it's pregnancy and/or ultrasound pics to 2nd birthday. The next album starts with pics taken after 2nd birthday to 4th birthday. Etc.
Though I've wondered if I should start with birthday instead of end. Anyway, so the albums cover age years, not calendar years. Some day when I'm done working on the kids' albums I'll go back and make albums for hubby and I out of the extra pics I have left and those I'll do on calendar year.

My albums are by theme and stored chronologically. I use 3 ring albums and buy them as I need them. I'm not stuck on any certain colors either. Right now they are numbered #1, #2, and so on. I plan on changing that so they are labeled something like 07/2007-02/2009 or Christmas 1998-2008.

It's rare I have enough pictures from one year to fill an entire album.

I have always scrapped chrono since I started in 1997. I have different albums for each year. Many of my annual albums take up more than one!!

I sort my photos in order and generally scrap them in order too. Every once in a bit, I will want to scrap something out of order so I do, I just put those pages in protectors and put them aside until I can put them into the album. The past few years, I have just stored all of my completed layouts in protectors in a covered box and then figure out how many albums I need and divide the pages. I could fit more pages into the albums I do have but I would rather under fill them then over fill them.

My annual albums are different colors. My color scheme is white, sage green and light pink. 2011 was white, 2012 will be pink, then green then back to white. This separates them on the shelf visually and looks great!

Like so many others have already said, I don't scrap chronologically but my layouts are organized chronologically. I don't have hundreds of layouts either so it absolutely wouldn't make sense for me to have an album for each year. I prefer to just add the layouts where they belong as I complete them and add albums as they fill up. Less wasted space.

When I started out and didn't have as many layouts, so I just bought a couple of albums to start. I use 3-ring albums, so it is really to insert layouts as needed...I can just open the rings and add in another page protector as needed. This allows me to scrap out of order, while still organizing chronologically.

That's my approach too. If I had enough yearly LO's for an album then I'd put them in one album, but for now I am just putting them in in the right order but don't separate by year.
I also have a separate vacations/long trips album. I usually end up with 2 trips per album.

My albums are chronological but I don't scrap them in order. Right now I am working on 2012 pictures. The layouts are kept in order in a cropper hopper paper holder. When I am done with 2012, they will go in an album(s). In the past, I would leave spaces for pages I planned to create but I have too many pictures and layout ideas for this year and I can't stand rearranging pages, I would rather do it all at once.

Thank you so much for all of your help! I really do appreciate it because I was really getting stumped.
I like Shimelle's idea of never being behind but I am sooooo far behind . The good thing is that I have all of my photos in 6 up page protectors in chronological order I just need to start scrappin. I have this year covered with Project Life I just need to start scrappin.
Thank you, Melissa
