Me too. I work a 10 hr shift 4 days a week. I am up at 4:45 AM. By the time I get home it is all I can do to get dinner together, laundry caught up and get myself to bed at a reasonable hour.
I save scrapping for weekends that I am not on call, 4 weekend crops a year and vacation time if its a "staycation". |

Every morning I say I'm goign to scrap tonigh. By the time I've gotten dinner done, leftovers put away, and finished any other tasks neededed I'm tired. Thinking about pulling everything out feels like work. I work from home so one day I'm hoping I can get my projects done so I can take a Friday off on day. |

I don't work outside the home, but often by the time the kids are all in bed, I'm ready to crash. Sometimes I have a short nap before or after dinner after DH is home, and then I'm recharged for the night.
I am pretty lazy, though, so taking a short nap instead of doing laundry or picking up toys is really a difficult choice for me. Sleep now, scrap soon, clean later!

I have worked full-time for 5 years now, get up at 5 AM and drive an hour back and forth to work. So, I'm almost never home before 5:30 or 6.
My tips:
o Work on the weekend on the "big hard" things. (Pulling paper to go with photos, picking a sketch, starting a layout from scratch.)
o Put to the side "finishing touches" you can work on during the week. (Title cutting, journal boxes, making embellishments, pulling embellishments, sewing.)
o Always have a layout in progress. It's easier to do a little something on a LO than start from scratch.
o Stay close to your pictures. If you can't tape anything down, work on your digital images. Delete blurry ones, set good ones in a folder to print, make lists of layouts you want to do.
o Stay in your bra! It keeps you awake! Sometimes I will stay in shoes, too, so that my mind is focused on "going".
o Have a goal! Decide you WILL do so much at a time - either 3 TO DO's, or 30 minutes, etc.
o Be content with working in small spurts. Don't expect great things and learn to appreciate that all the small things add up.
o Learn to let other things go. The mail does NOT have to be sorted off the counter every day.
o Balance little household chores with scrappy ones. Take 15 minutes to go freshen up a room, and then come back to 30 minutes of scrapping, or vice versa. (Include web surfing in this! So much time on the MB's = so much time scrapping.)
Okay - those are my tips. Back to scrapping!
ETA: Go to as many weekend retreats as you can - and hang out with fun people like Scoobers. OR - depending on the age of children - have "retreats" in your home where you hunker down and scrap like a fool all weekend.
And sometimes I will downgrade to a sports bra, but really - a gal's gotta' do what a gal's gotta' do to stay scrappy! |

I work at a factory from 7-3. By the time I get home get kids lined out supper on the table laundry done and homework done I am pooped. I have been at my job 13 years and it doesn't get any easier. We also have 5 kids every other weekend so I might get 1 weekend a month. I have a new husband on top of all this who doesn't understand my scrapbooking obsession lol.

I don't really expect to get anything during the week. Grand plans in the morning but by the time I get home around 7 these days, I'm lazy. So, I tend to watch videos & print off challenges & do the majority of my actual scrapping on the weekends. If I actually am motivated & get something done during the week, BONUS!

funny you said this. I was just sitting here looking at the clock AT my scrap desk thinking I should work on something. I have everything pulled together to do my very first December Daily and am pretty excited about it.
I was just wondering if anyone else feels this way about being so tired at night. I work part-time. Two days a week. It is so part time that my dh says it is not really a job at all. I get the kids up, fed, ready for school. Three days a week my kids have wrestling practice so I have to have everything done (hw, dinner, prep for the next day) before dh gets home. We get home from wrestling get them showered and in bed, I take a shower, sit down and here I am.......
I always think if I could get up an hour before the kids that could be scrap time......until I have to drag myself out of bed!!!!
My problem is not being to let stuff go around my house. I do not have any help even on the weekends so it seems there is never a time it is all done well enough I can sit and relax...sigh. I think it is my problem really, need to just stop caring about everything else so much...

Me!! I had grand plans of doing one little thing every night and getting at least one layout done a week. Not happening. But I'm trying to be very go-with-the-flow and just accept this is a busy stage of life. I'll scrap as much as I want later. So I catch as catch can, I had 2 very widely spaced appointments yesterday that were a half hours drive away from my house. Luckily an Archiver's was nearby, so I took my tote and scrapped for a few hours while I waited. It was lovely. |

I just promised myself tonight that I would try to give "me" at least an hour a day to do something I want to do.
Lately I have been lazy! I have scrapped but right now I am hunkered down in bed with the tv on and my iPad. I feel like I should be doing something but I just don't have the energy.
I am going to try to schedule scrapping into my daily routine just like everything else. I spend most of my day doing things for other people, I need to do something for myself.
I agree with penny re; dress code! If I am in pjs, I can only get stuff done if I am very motivated. I work from home the majority of the time and it is the same. If I am dressed, I feel like I am up to the challenge for some reason, it must be a mental thing! |

After making dinner, cleaning up the dishes, helping kids with homework, running kids to activities, making lunches for the next day, I am beat by 9pm and just want to relax for an hour or so with dh until bed. I never even think of scrapbooking on a weekday night, just too many other things to get done.

Penny has all the tips I can offer - I have found the best thing is leaving a LO and when I walk by I can do this, etc. Currently I am stuck on a page for my December Daily as I need some time to sit down with my Silhouette. I am up at 7:30 am and with DD all day (I work from home while she is at preschool) and then Tuesday-Friday I work until 11pm. Then I have chores to do, etc. It is 1 am before I get to bed any day of the week. I need those hours of sleep . So yes, way to tired to do evening scrapbooking. You are not alone. If I do have a spare moment during the week - I usually tidy up.

No. Sometimes I come from lessons at 10 pm and grab my scrap supplies.
But I scrap mostly in the evenings even if I have lots of time during the day. Evenings somehow have more crafty feeling to them.

I also find I cant scrap during the weekday nights, i work fulltime, have both my kids living at home, with their partners (saving to get own home, trying to find suitable rental), by the time i am home from work, organise dinner, put washing on, fold washing that is dry from previous night, wash up, walk dog, check emails, and i am usually struggling to keep my eyes open
i have often set my alarm to get up earlier, but when it goes off in the morning, i decide sleep is much more important to me
weekend scrapping is my time, and it isnt every weekend, due to family commitments, gatherings, housework, shopping, etc..
i do love the tip with keep the bra on, and some times shoes, this is so true for me, once i am comfy, i am in shutdown mode
i have recently tried to attend crops at least once per month just to make sure i get my time
great thread

Yes, I'm usually too tired but sometimes I need to fit in some weeknight scrapping. I do most meal planning and cooking but DH jumps in when needed if I'm working late or depending on kids activities. About once a month if I'm getting home early, it's either he's cooking or I'll grab takeout, and I let everyone know I'm scrapping all night. I've even made it until midnight once in awhile. Another thing is I watch virtually no tv, so while I scrap I also have Netflix or movies going, which helps fill that need too. I've been known to take a few days off a year to SB, too...

I use to scrap during the week but these last 2~3 of years it seems like I am always too busy. I have always worked FT outside the home and so my evenings are usually busy with normal everyday stuff. I just need to make it part of my normal everyday stuff. I love your tips pennyscraps!
BUT....this year I am making it a priorty to scrap at least 2 nights during the week and one day on the weekend. I actually got my scrappy time in last night..YEAH!!

I am another who doesn't work outside the home, but I hear you. If I didn't squeeze in a little scrapping time during the day, I wouldn't get a thing done. With carpool, swim practice, homework, dinner prep and cleaning, I am so beat in the evenings. Last night I had a bit of free time, walked over to my scrap desk, but then turned around and opted for bed. lol |

Love the bra thing!!!! I'm very fortunate to have married a wonderful man who works close to home and will clean a bit during the week so I have scrappy weekend time. He still doesn't understand my obsession but says "a happy wife makes a happy life". But in all reality I leave to work at 6 am and don't get home til 5'ish. Our kids are grown and out of the house but I still feel soooo tired in the evenings. I want to scrap but just can't. I just go in my room and sit and stare at my projects... then get up and leave. I try to tell him I need to be a stay at home dog mommy but I keep getting a blank look from him. Maybe one day!!! |

If DH has something going on during the week and isn't home, I have no trouble scrapping. In fact my problem seems to be knowing when to shut it down. I get so wrapped up with what I'm doing that it's not uncommon for me to look at the clock and see that it's 2:00 a.m.! That's where the problem lies because I have to get up at 6:00 a.m. for work! |

Like Penny says, I am better at getting things done in the evenings if I have something already started to work on. Or even just a sketch picked out to follow.
I'm doing Shimelle's Pretty Paper Party right now, and I've managed to get a layout done every single day after work for the last week and a half...I think with that it's because I have a prompt/sketch to work on, so I've got a starting point, that helps my brain to switch between my not-very-creative job and being creative scrapbooking.
I do find it incredibly relaxing to scrapbook after being at work all day but I need to get started on something pretty soon after I get home or I just don't do it.

But this is only after dinner is made and cleaned up, homework (mine) is done, and DS has had his bath.
What can I say? I don't sleep. I'd get up early and do it but I go to bed around midnight and get up at 6. |

I have been trying to get on schedule with scrapping, along with daily, routine chores. My husband and I just got married this past October. Everything was so hectic in our lives until recently: I graduated from graduate school in May, I was unemployed for a couple of months, then I started a job at an agency 30 miles from my home, then we had the last phase of the wedding planning, then it was the holidays and now it's January. I'm trying to get into a routine, especially with house stuff so I can do a bit of scrapping after. Man, has it been difficult! Also, my craft space is down in our basement (our unfinished basement, mind you), so it's freakishly cold down there! Also, my husband is a car salesman so he's hours are strange. The few hours he's home a week, I try to spend with him.
So...once I get back into town after work and run whatever errands, I relax for 15-30 minutes, then I'll do yoga (gotta stay fit), then I'll do the few daily chores and a bigger weekly chore. By the time I get down in my craft space and figure out what I'm working on, husband is home. Also, I don't know about you lovelies, but I don't like being interrupted while in "the scrap zone" so I'm always conscious of where I'm at mentally while crafting about 30 minutes before my husband gets home.
I don't know how you ladies with families try to scrap?! I'm having a hard enough time just with me and my husband!
Thanks for reading my frustrations! It felt really good to get that out because as much as my husband loves that I have a hobby I'm passionate about and he supports me and encourages me, he doesn't "get" it.

SEE! The bra is the key!!
I, on the other hand, came home tonight and felt invincible - like SuperWoman or something - and took mine off and put PJs on at 7:30 and I'm dying right now. Ready to go get in bed now, whereas last night I stayed in here scrapping until after 10.
I did however put together 6 double LO's of an Allison Davis Christmas kit and have them all ready to put pictures down. But, I'm done in here tonight. Tomorrow I'll take my OWN advice. |

My mojo definitely wanes on weeknights. Some days it is there, but if I have a deadline, I really have to push myself hard to get in a creative mindset. Mostly I'm in a what's-for-dinner-what's-on-TV-is-it-time-for-bed-already? mindset, so there isn't much room for paper-y pursuits. My head feels muddled during the work week.
Stay in your bra! It keeps you awake!
Now THIS is something I hadn't thought of before today. I can see the spin-off thread now, akin to those "Do You Scrap Standing Up or Sitting Down?" threads -- "Do You Scrap Braless?" Seriously, I think I'm going to have to take notice of whether my mojo rises or falls based on the presence or lack of a bra. Curious... |

Glad we're all in good company...I'm beat by evening after the kids are in bed. I just want to go to bed too!
But...keep your bra on? I am never without one, and have several soft loose sports bras for sleeping. I'm really uncomfortable without
I actually scrap best when I'm in my pjs, all comfy cozy. I need to feel relaxed (but not tired) to find my mojo! |

Funny, I was just thinking the same thing. I just started a new job, and I get home at about 6:30.
By the time hubby and I have dinner, I like to take a bath and unwind. Then I'm just too tired to accomplish all the scrappy plans I have made for the evening. It's very disappointing. Then our weekends are so packed with activities I hardly have any time to scrap then, either. I used to be so good and motivated last year, I need an intervention.

When I walk in the door, my shoes are the first thing to go. My bra is next. I would NEVER scrap in my bra at home! The horror! The torture! All I can think is you guys must have way comfier bras than I do or something!
I actually just finished up a two-page layout - when the toddler is in bed is just about the only quiet time I have, and I'm too tired in the afternoon when he naps. So, I nap with him so I can stay awake long enough to get something done at night! I know, I have it rough. |

o Stay in your bra! It keeps you awake!
Ok, this is seriously one of the funnest/funniest things I've ever read on these boards (and I've seen a lot of funny things here!!)
Who knew????? I really never thought about it, but it IS so true!!
Don't we need a t-shirt with this motto on it to wear to all scrappy events????
Thanks Penny for a really good laugh (and some fun insight!!).
And Jill ....

I think that proposed thread needs a poll to go with it. We're close to finding the key to scrapping creativity and some serious research is needed !!!!!
Too dang funny! |

I definitely relate to this! I'm often too tired or it's quite late by the time I have done everything for the evening and can relax, or I don't have the heart to get stuck in by that point.
Also the disadvantage I find is if I do start, and get really into it, then I know I have to go to bed for work the next day so I have to stop or know I'll be even more tired the following day!
Some things I do for weeknight scrapping would be stamping a bunch of embellishments using my scraps as this can be done in batches, still feels crafty but doesn't require the concentration of a whole layout.
I also might do a small bit of a layout across a whole week, which happened this week. I found a sketch on Sunday night and picked out my papers and stuck the basic background structure down. Then each night I have time I just add something to it, so it might not be a full on session but at least I've done something for the week which is better than nothing. On Monday I added the photo on a mat, then Tuesday I sifted through my embellishments looking for all the things I could add for journalling and layers.
I haven't had a chance to work on it since then, but I know it's all there waiting for me to just build on it, or I can have a think during the day of what I might want to add, my title, techniques etc. I try to get myself excited about it so I'm more likely to do it when I get time because I've already tackled the thinking part that can be a hold up when you're in front of the page

You betcha'! I have that Soma Vanishing Back bra and it works for me! And like I said, you can downgrade to a sports bra and still be energetic. At least I can.
Seriously, I think I'm going to have to take notice of whether my mojo rises or falls based on the presence or lack of a bra.
Now, mind you, I DID NOT say MOJO was related to in/out of a bra. I DID say energy level was. I cannot guarantee you any mojo.
Don't we need a t-shirt with this motto on it to wear to all scrappy events????
How about this slogan: My Cows Are in the Barn and I Got My Scrap On! |

Well I am a night owl...I work full time and get off at 10pm...but that is prime time to my brain, so I can craft with ease. My issue is that my husband likes to spend time with me hanging out after work and that takes away from my scrapping time. The solution...set up a little table in his "man cave" and bring in a small bag of supplies to work while I spend time with him. Works wonderfully...win/win. |

I am more of a weekend scrapper. Normally, by the time I come home, eat, pick up, spend time with DH, I'm too tired to start something. Sometimes, I'll finish up something from the weekend but not too much more then that.
