Because they're certainly priced that way!
$5 a pack?! I want all the new ones in the shop, but I'll have to go donate some plasma to afford them.
But they're so pretty! |

I completely agree! I was going to buy some since they are so popular and easy to use, but I refuse to spend $5 a pack. Just won't do it.
Kind of like OA Washi. I won't buy it either. Too many others at a great price. |

I thought I has posted earlier but it disappeared
I did buy ONE package while at Archiver's working on a project and really wanted to try them. They seem like a quick alternative to brads and so many yummy colors. I don't think I will buy them again.
But I look at the price of the packages of brads and they are in the $5 range too. It's so hard to stretch a scrappy budget when the embellishments are so pricey. |

In australia they are about $8 or $9 which is so much compared to rhinestones which I can get for less than $3. And rhinestones have about 3 times as many in a pack. I'd love to try them out but it's just too much money. |

I've been wanting to try these out, I didn't realize they were so expensive though! So far, I've just been busting out my brads (I have probably over 1000 brads) to give it the same look. I'll stick with that for now, it's nice to be able to use up some stuff out of the stash anyway.

I agree! Embellishments in general do seem to be getting expensive. They look cute and fun, but I'm not convinced it is worth paying $5 and up for a small pack of embellishments. I'd rather buy Washi tape, plain brads, buttons, punches, stamps, or patterned paper that I can use to make my own embellishments.
Embellishments are going up...I swear, if patterned paper prices start going over $1, I'm going back to buying stacks on sale at big box stores!

HSN just had a glitter looking set of 1200 (I think that was the count) for $30. That was shipping included. They were cute but I love the opaque look. I would have bought if they had been opaque and pastel. |

Yes they are pricy! But a received a few packages in my last few SC kits- so tried them and love them for boy pages especially. I have bought one pack- darling dear from SC - yep $4.99 but I just loved the bright colors and decided to get them before they sell out. I don't see myself buying any more unless on sale- or they come in an SC kit. |

Make them with paint. Drip the paint on plastic, let it dry, peel it off, and there you go. You can make any color you want, as many as you want, and any size you want. It might be tricky to make tiny ones though.
$5 is ridiculous. What a rip off.

i bought a bunch this winter from a discount scrap website. I'd seen the thread on SC - don't remember the website name. I got 3 packs of MME dots and 3 Mr. Hueys for 19.99 delivered! That was a major score - especially now with the price increase. I used to just throw them on any layout. Now I'll have to determine if my layout is "enamel dot worthy" LOL. |

I love everything MME does, but these are just too expensive for me. It's even worse in the UK - they're the equivalent of around $8 a pack...I just can't justify it. If I want something other than a pearl or bling in that kind of size, I use one of my big stash of brads. |

Anyone else finding it hard to find plain brads anymore? I love the bright color ones and I can't find them. The tiny ones too. I do all kinds of things with them. Half circles are my favorite. It really connects things.
If you have brads that aren't the right color you can always dip the heads in paint to change the color.
Another one I'm shocked about the price is buttons. WTH? Like 9 buttons for $4-5. I used to be able to get a bag of them for that. |

Anyone else finding it hard to find plain brads anymore? I love the bright color ones and I can't find them. The tiny ones too.
I've gotten them at Michaels. Including tiny ones. I've gotten tiny ones in primary colors, the next size up in earthy colors and pastels. I don't know if there is another mix or not.
As for enamel dots - do as someone else suggested and make your own with paint and a non-stick sheet/plastic. Use gloss or metallic paint. If you want them a bit thicker (because the paint may spread a little) then use bottles of fabric paints. They come in different finishes, too. You could even make yourself a size template by printing on the rough side of a transparency and using the smooth side for your paint. |
