to sort their photos for project life? I am a newbie but I really didnt think it would take me 2 1/2 hours to pick the photos and sort the sizes. I am trying to stick to standard horizontal 4x6s but sometimes I want to use a vertical 4x3 so I can journal next to it. Its not even the end of the month and I dont take tons of photos! Wow.
I can see I must try to keep on top of things. | |

Yes, the photo sorting/editing is the biggest time sink by far for my PL. I started being ruthless about deleting the ones I didn't love, so it got easier (a little) to choose photos.
Also, if you print them smaller, like 2x3 or 3x3 for square ones, you can fit them in any of the slots if you back them with cardstock or patterned paper, etc. makes it less of a chore to find the right photo for the right slot. So I mostly just print the number of 4x6 in the right orientation, and then print a bunch of smaller ones. |

Don't worry you will get faster. I just pick my favorites or pick ones with a funny story to journal about. |

This is why I don't do PL (that and I can't print at home, so I would be very behind).
I did a "month in review" for 2011 and was exhausted just picking the photos, making sure there were enough, and they were in the right orientation. And, oh wait! that one would look great 2x3. I used post-its to keep track of which photos would go where so I would know when a page was full/or what size/orientation to look for. But jumping back and forth between photoshop, photosheet, and the actual pages was so confusing.
I like my current system: Find a sale at walgreens, upload a stack of photos, send, pick up prints, done. Then I just flip thru the stack and scrap whatever strikes my fancy that day.

I imagine that with time it will become easier. I usually just scrap already printed photos so most likely I will take the approach of printing the photos at a few different sizes and then making it work from there. I don't like to plan so working out where things go and then deciding on a size to print would never work for me.
Could you try printing landscape at 4x6 and portrait at 2x3 and then just working the rest of your supplies around that? |

I think it will start to go faster as you get into it. It took me longer the first week, then less the second, and this week was really easy - Probably only 30 min to pull the pictures together. |

It gets faster. I take pics and immediately decide 4x6 or 3x4. Then I send to one hour Walgreens and pick them up. I also don't take random photos. I look for funny or unique events or stories I want to tell. Less photos to sift through. |

I get all my pictures printed at 4x6 and then cut down the ones which need to be 3x4. |
