For people that put 'extra' photos in those pocket pages in their scrapbooks - why spend the money on them? Why not just stick the pics down on a sheet of cardstock and slip in a pp? Either way, you only fit six 4x6s on a side. Maybe it's a tad faster to slip them in a pocket, but really, it's not going to take much time at all to slap them on sheet of paper. |

If I put them in a divided PP they are available for school projects, for my girls to later use, or to use for a later page focusing on another subject.
I always stored my extra photos in divided albums, now I can keep the extra photos with the event.
Either way I am using a PP of some kind. Why the difficulty in understanding it?

I typically use these for extra sports photos. I will scrap a few of the best and then stick the rest in divided protectors. I typically get them on sale , so I don't think I am paying any more and they are a big time saver which is well worth it even if they did cost more.

Are divided PPs that much more money than 12x12s?
For me, I haven't ever printed out many photos so I have a ton to do. I don't want to fiddle with adhesive and lining things up. Also I can hand a stack to DH and have him help. Most importantly I may decide to make a LO with some of them and this way I can easily move them around.
I know I am in the minority but I also don't have a lot of 12x12 cardstock that I don't want to actually use where it can be seen.

If you purchase pocket pages on sale, they may be equal or less cost than using adhesive, cardstock, & a page protector to achieve the same goal. Plus, the photos/memorabilia are more accessible should you wish to include them in a future layout/project. HTH & happy scrapping!

I'm usually a full page scrapper and am trying a pocket page album this year, but I'll add regular pages as well. I bought my pocket pages from an Aussie direct selling company and they charge the same for all types of sleeves.
ETA: I think most people like the divided pages because it makes scrapping quicker. If you have hundreds of pics or just don't have time for regular scrapping, this is a quick and easy way to go, especially if you by the PL type kits.
They can be a good addition to a regular album when you have a lot of photos of 1 event. You just add in a pocket page and you have another 6 or 12 photos of the event without having to spend time making extra pages. |

Because I like how it looks. I'd guess that's why any of scrapbook, no matter how we do it we do it because we like the way it looks. That's why there are so many forms of scrapbooking. Some of us like mini books, some 8 1/2 x 11 or 12 x 12. We all make them different and they are all good because we are preserving our memories. |

Time and Aesthetic... And because I want to.
Maybe you don't get it, and that's fine... I wasn't really getting it until I tried it. |

I never saw the pocket pages until my girlfriend bought some and used at a crop. Now, she was doing a prom page and scrapped a double page and then with all the extra pictures she inserted them in the pockets and then some of the pockets she filled in like with a title on a scrap paper... like a mini layout... make sense cause it isn't making sense to me except in my mind.. LOL |

In my opinion, it looks nicer than just putting the pictures on a blank page.
I can go back and use the pictures for scrapping later if I want to.

I do this too; when I have a LOT of photos from one event I get tired of scrapping them so I will make pages like these and insert them between the pages of a two page layout. It is a great way to use up the leftover supplies from a two page layout, too.
As I mentioned in another thread, I take HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of pictures of my dive adventures a year. I get tired of scrapping pictures of fish. This is a great way to highlight my favorite pictures (in a traditional layout) yet hold on to those more mundane or less than perfect shots.
ETA: some of us are not really concerned with the (minimal) extra expense; I already spend a LOT of $$$ on scrapping; what's another couple of dollars??

I haven't looked into the price. But I would guess the price difference would also depend on what brand of protectors you buy anyway.
I scrap all my pictures so I might as well put them down on a sheet of paper like the rest of the layouts. For me, the incontinuity would bother me.
Obviously, it doesn't bother other people. But no one needs to get in a huff over the question. |

It looks neater and takes less time because you don't have to line things up. |

I started a new thing in 2012. I developed all my photos and put them all in pocket pages. Now I can go thru the pictures and do single or double layouts for the ones I want to, and the rest are right there with them.
Where there are holes in the pocket pages, I can use pattern paper to embellish, journal or title the photos.
I feel super organized!!
The price is about the same.
Now I just have to get the prior 15+ years into albums and out of boxes....one day!!

I like them because I can do my typical two page layout of an event, but I usually have more photos of that event I want to show - a lot more. So it's nice to display more photos than just the ones on your layout, and kinda fun to mix it up with those throughout your album.

Because I like to use the divide page protectors to quickly add in a bunch of photos I love but don't want to scrap.
Because I mix it up with journalling cards.
Because they make a great spot to add in memorabilia.
Because I can also use them to make mini layouts about smaller stories I want to include in my albums but don't want to make a full page about.
Because I like the way it breaks up the album so that some pages have a slightly different feel/size.
Because I used to collect baseball cards and I now have a use for all those spare baseball card page protectors I seem to still have. |

when I choose to use divided page protectors, it isn't because I think it will be faster or easier, but for composition. I may want a photo in one pocket, a ticket stub in another, confetti in another, etc. |

I think all my reasons are mentioned already:
Because I might want to take them out later to do other layouts. That way I remind myself that those pictures are not in a layout.
Because Sometime they are redundant but I might be able. To add some journaling or family history without having to make another similar layout.
To add little ephemera without the hassle of trying to Incorporate them in a specific design.

I think the reason why you would use a pp instead of just slapping your photos on a piece of paper.. Is one for the different style/look it gives to your album especially if the rest of your pages are page protectors and two maybe they want to protect the photo that there placing in the album! I have bought the different size protectors before but I find it to be more fun to create my own sizes using office supply 8.5x11 page sheets and stitching them! |

I think it looks much better, plus I stink at lining things up evenly, and trust me, I *will* notice it fit is even the tiniest bit uneven. And it will bug me forever.
The pages I buy are the same price for either the 12 x 12 page protector or any of the divided page protectors, so I would actually spend more money adhering photos to a 12x12 cardstock and then inserting it into a 12x12 page protector.
Now if I was doing a digital PL album, then your suggestion would be exactly what I would do. Design a 12 x 12 page with perfectly lined up pics, print it off, and insert the whole thing into a 12x12 protector.
But I don't digital scrap, so I stick to the other way of doing things.

Thank you for the nice replies.
It sounds tempting but I think in the end it'd probably bug me to not have them down on paper like other LO's. If I don't want something stuck, I use photo corners (sometimes the clear ones) or make stitched corners (or even a pocket for a brochure to stick out of). I don't stick down memorabilia.
Maybe if I was just starting out it'd be something I'd try, but now I'm stuck in my ways. |
