I am purging and organizing (and donating)....yay for me!

But I am torn at how to organize my patterned paper.

I have a pretty good hanging file system for my limited space, but I don't know the categories to put my paper into.

What are your categories?

Thanks for your help!

So I have my full sheets in a desktop paper holder. The ones you get at target, Michael's, etc. Cardstock is sorted in a hanging file folder. I have one for each color and one for scraps of pattern paper.

patterned paper by color (red, orange, yellow, green, aqua, blue, purple, brown, black/white).com
Cardstock same way
I have a few papers by themes that I use most often
Baby girl (working on an album right now)
School
Christmas
Halloween
Disney
Firefighters (for ds's bday)
Rainbows (for dd's bday)
I know lots of people sort by manufacuters but I do better by color.

I also organize mine by collection. After I've scrapped all I want with that collection I put any leftover sheets in a box to purge, or use on cards, and put the scraps in an accordian file.

I do cardstock by color. I do collections together by manufacturer and then grouped by theme. So for example I have my Echo Park school mini with Pink Paislee Old School. My themes: Christmas, Halloween, Fall, Valentine's, Fourth of July, School, Sports, Travel, Little Boy, Little Girl, Boy, Girl and General. Then random pieces I do by manufacturer and line.

I don't think I have that much that I can't just sift through it when I need to, so my patterned paper is all together in a stack (about 3 inches high) and my card stock is sorted by color.

Newer stuff is by manufacturer and collection. Holidays have their own holder, as does baby stuff (for now - I'm starting DS's baby book soon). Older papers, or some that I bought just one sheet from a line, are organized by color.

It works for me - I don't have a ton of paper, so I can generally remember the collections I have, and then it's easy to find additional colors to match from my color paper holders.

I have no real system - which works for me.
I think the best way to organise your supplies depends on how you scrap. If you scrap by colour then organise the papers into colour, if you scrap from the same collections then keep them together etc. I don't scrap by colour so if I organised my paper by colour I would never be able to find the ones I wanted. GG suggests this too

I store my cardstock by color.
My patterned paper is separated a few ways. I have paper holders for a few themes (Christmas, Vacation and Travel, Baby) I have my most used brands that I know by brand (Stampin' Up and BG) and I have the rest separated by color.

It may sound complex, but I know where to look when I need something. The only thing I don't have separated is the paper stacks or pads. I am thinking about separating them because I rarely scrap with a collection or set. I like to mix and match.

I organize by brand, then by collection. If I have only one paper that's not part of a certain collection then I just place those either in the front of the others or in the back! And then I keep all of my papers In those paper bins from ms the white cube things with the shelves! It seems to work out pretty well for me.. I do own quite a bit of paper but not nearly as much as some people have when you see photos of an entire wall covered with racks of paper lol..

Mine is organized by company, then by collection. I always keep the scraps in a seperated bag (which I should probably label with the name of the collection lol).
I don´t have that much cardstock, in all fits into one box. Within this box it is seperated by color and structure (structured/unstructured cs).

My paper organization is a mixture of things:

The cardstock is separated by color.
The pattern paper is separated by main color within the design---
although I do keep some of my specific companies or collections together.

For instance, all of my Basic Grey is in one Cropper Hopper vertical holder.

I also have two Cropper Hopper vertical holders that I use just for papers that I purchased to use with my two children: one is a "his" file and one is a "her" file. It makes it so much easier to find that track paper when I am ready to work on my daughter's album.

I store CS by brand then by color. PP is stored by theme and then by manufacture (I have several themes, that way it's very easy to find). Then sorted by manufacture with collections together. I then store the CS scraps by color in my CS scraps and PP by color in my PP scraps (unless it is part of a collection, then it stays with the collection). Best method for me that I have ever used. Good luck with organizing!

I organize by color because that is how I look for it. I hardly ever scrap down the manufacturer's line, IYKWIM. But if you do, then keep it by manufacture.

I organize mine by color and LOVE it. For my collections that I buy the whole paper pack, I will leave them together for awhile. Once I start using them the scraps go into a metal bin from Staples but I'll still keep the unused papers together.

I store mine in Cropper Hoppers, 1 for colored cardstock and 3 for patterned paper. The PP is organized by manufacturer an collection as I find that's how I tend to think when I sit down to scrap.

Mine are organized by manufacturer and collection.

ditto

I have cropper hopper for all my faves-- jillibean, imaginisce, mme, etc. then i keep all the collections in a bag labeled what collection is is - i also store all my scraps within the bag so that everything is there. I also keep all the embellies in the bag as well. so when i want to do a mme layout ( like i am working on right now) I pull out my cropper hopper and then i can look at all the different collections- mix an match etc.

I separate my cardstock by color and pp by theme. I am having an issue with the pp that doesn't fit a theme. It is currently all in one box. I need to do something with it.

Iris boxes, sorted by color: I like to store horizontally rather than vertically.

For new stuff, I put it into a single Iris box and grab from it until enough stuff is used up to reincorporate the leftovers into the color boxes. Wookiemouse's blog had her basket of new goodies and I loved that idea.

I don't have a lot of pp so this is probably easier for me. I store by manufacturer/collection. If a collection is down to just a few scraps, I decide if it matches any of my other collections by that manufacturer. If it does, it stays with the manufacturer. If it doesn't really match any of the other collections, it goes into a "general" stack, mostly sorted by mood (ie, muted colors, bright colors).

I store all my pp in one of those 3 drawer Sterilite containers. I keep the collections/manufacturers together by binder clips. Top draw has cardstock and specialty papers. Middle drawer is my "go to" manufactuers/collections. Third drawer is for the "general" stack and some collections that I'm not liking but can't yet get rid of.

I have two 30-slot wire racks (like you would see at a scrapbooking store) stacked on top of each other. Paper is organized by manufacturer (alphabetically starting with American Crafts, down to Teresa Collins), and then by collection within each manu (oldest collections on bottom, newest on top). My cardstock is in order by color in the bottom several slots.

This works best for me, but some people think of their paper by color or pattern, so find what works best for you!
