Other than pictures and stories, what else do you put in your spreads? I put my first receipt in last week. This week I have some clothing tags. I'm trying to fugue out the balance between capturing memories and storing junk.
Mostof my pockets are photos, two are usually stories, and I don't tend to use filler cards.
What do you do? | |

I save tags from the kids' clothing if they have characters or logos on them that I think might work on a layout at some point. Not the sewn in tags, but the hang-tags from the garment when it was new.
So, if I do a 2 page spread about A Day Out With Thomas this year, I might grab a tag from one the Thomas the Tank Engine shirts. The colors will go well with the photos and obviously they will match the theme perfectly.
But you can even do the same with anything new you might buy, too. Not just kid stuff.

I just started and I have already put in a card and a brochure from a restaurant we went to , train tickets from a ride we took, and tags from a purse I bought. |

A few things from my book:
-mail (a special card, a funny piece of junk mail that became a family joke )
-business cards, business logos
-a collage of my 2Ps CHA badges
-tickets from movies, parking garage, events
-Olympics logo and tv schedule card
-wristbands from events, hospital
-expired dog license and parking pass (a very expensive piece of plastic )
-promo card for an event (has all the event info on it)
-football schedule card
-confetti from a baby shower
-a bakery label from a birthday cake
-hospital menu from an overnight stay and the thank you card from the nurses
-a card from a flower arrangement
-tags, maps and menus from day trip locations
-a bumper sticker from our gym
-dentist reminder magnet
-election mailers
I purge the saved stuff when I start working on that week's pages and only actually use things that became part of the stories for that week. I just did a massive catch up and had a big pile of stuff to sift through. Now I'm trying to be better about saving thing for any given week in a small folder for that week. So far it's working much better! |

The philosophy I am taking when it comes to adding things is to look at what I would have usually done with those extra bits and pieces. If I would have thrown them away then I will still throw them away. But if I would have treasured them and kept them somewhere then PL gives me the perfect place to put them.
I will have alot more stories than photos because I forget to take photos. I will have lots of filler cards (patterned paper that I cut myself) cause I love patterned paper and no project would be complete without it. But I think that's ok because it reflects what I am loving at the time. |

I saved a McDonald's receipt because I've never spent that much there at one time. $43.00. I also saved a hang tag from a pair of jeans. They will be fun to see in a bazillion years. | |

Wow, $43 is a lot a McDonald's!
I have used:
-cute clothing tags (especially for DS - it's fun to see the different sizes he's in)
-cute tag from my new WS kitchen towels
-a business card from his pediatric dentist
-postcards we've received
-a favorite recipe (not really ephemera - I copied it on a journal card)
-a tag from the Clementine Cuties bag when they came back in season (DH LOVES them)
-bits of packaging from DS's current fave cereal or snack
-hospital wristband
-lots of DS's artwork
For me, whether it makes the cut depends on if it really tells a story. The clothing tags and snack packaging are documenting DS's changing tastes and his growth. The dentist business card was b/c I didn't get a picture of his dentist appt, but he did unexpectedly fabulous, so I wanted to make a note of it. Etc. |

All of the above! Last week, I included the foil lid of a Chobani yogurt as well as I printed out a transcript of President Obama's Inauguration Speech.
Nametag from my Weight Watchers meeting, tags off things...today I picked up a Starbucks sleeve to slip in since my drink was free.
I also got some new make-up compacts from Bare Escentuals on Sunday, and when I popped open the compact there was a little piece of acetate that separated the foundation from the mirror. It says, "Hello" so I thought that would be cool to add in somewhere.
Parts of a menu, shopping bags, all sorts of fun stuff!!
