And it has to do with patterned paper. I LOVE PP. I love shopping for it and then end up hoarding it because I don't want to use it all up.
I was watching a GG video yesterday where she had one PP with a more vibrant/obvious pattern and then used 3 papers with the B side and a more subtle pattern. Long story short, the end layout only showed a tiny sliver of the vibrant patterened paper. The layout was gorgeous but the whole time I was thinking: I couldn't bring myself to cover all that pretty pattern up!
Anyone else share this fear/aversion? |

Have you ever considered cutting the center or the paper out? I had your same phobia. Now if I am going to use a large block, I cut out the center that would be covered to use for a different layout. Just a suggestion |

As far as saving all the pretty patterned paper, may I please share with you how I learned the hard way? This story may help my non-phobia make a little more sense. (It's an old post, but the realisation was a real turning point for my scrapping philosophy.)
Rest assured, you are not alone. But also know the world has never opened up and swallowed me whole for covering up paper patterns. I often find now I just have a bit of a repeated process of layering the papers and it all happens naturally, but when I first made a concerted effort to use my patterned papers, it was a real CHALLENGE and I moved things around the page for hours.
Hang in there and don't be afraid to show more of the paper! Just remember that every page gives you a finite amount of space and you get to decide what goes on it... sometimes the patterned paper wins, other times it's the photos or the writing or the embellishment. There's room for it all, but not all of it all at the same time. |

I loved your story Shimelle!
I think I may have to take it to heart. I have a ton of stash that I have trouble using. It's time to let go of my hoarding tendency....uh, "phobia," and actually use it. |

Thanks so much for the reply, Shimelle! That story was very inspiring (and sounded familiar). I'm definitely one who buys up stacks of things I love and then am too afraid to use them. The obvious problem with this is that all that pretty stuff that I loved ends up sitting in drawers/shelves/boxes, never to be seen again. This is one challenge I will be working on pushing myself on.
What's the point of buying all the pretty papers and embellishments etc if they never get used? Logically I know there isn't one. The other part of me just needs to get with the program. |

I love to use my supplies; I am ecstatic when I can make use of my stash! I will put all manner of pp together on a layout. In fact, if I don't put much on a page I keep looking at it thinking it is missing something. |

This is becoming my mantra! And its helping me actually use things instead of collecting them. Well, that and embracing my inner Glitter Girl (sans actual glitter) when I scrap. I'm actually taking joy in seeing my stash go on my pages and in albums! | |

I have such a problem with this too. I have papers I literally bought years ago that I LOVE so I don't want to use them. I'm so afraid to use them and and then never have the option to use them again because we all know they stop making supplies after some time. I know it's stupid and I can't justify why I do this and hoard my supplies. I just built a brandnew scrparoom and purged a lot of my supplies and am forcing myself to use what I have bought. It's been hard pushing myself to use something I love that I only have one of (that's usually the case, just one) but I realize that I am much happier when I use the paper for my own layout and get to see it whenever I look back Inspiration!!

I think I have that phobia to some degree. But it comes down to this. If that B side is going to look really, really good on a layout, I don't care how pretty that more vibrant A side is, it's getting covered up. An example that comes to mind for me is some Crate Paper I had with beautiful tags on the front, a nice white woodgrain on the B side. I had cut four tags off already, but that meant I had about an 8 x 12 scrap left. And then I had a page that really needed something, and it turns out it was that white woodgrain paper. So long, rest of the pretty tags! (And that woodgrain is covered by a lot of the photo and journaling.)
And if I "need" a small part of that A side, not all of it, some of it's getting either cut off or covered up. (Actually, that's pretty much a guarantee, how would I scrap with it if I didn't do one of those two things?)
However, I usually cannot bring myself to cut a small piece of paper off a whole sheet of pretty paper. I feel like I have to use at least something like 4 x 12 to justify making that cut. |

there's something to be said for using up your paper - but the problem with not cutting out large sections that are going to be covered (particularly if it's heavyweight and not the thin stuff) is you're adding more weight to your pages which adds up to heavier albums! |

I used to suffer from the same thing
Recovery is possible
I was hoarding my paper afraid to use, it then I discovered it's actually quite fun to use it I deplete my stash and can replace it with more.
So not only did I recover from my fear of using my beautiful paper, I could then go back to the store and buy more because there's always more pretty paper available |
