Meaning -- if someone started looking through your albums, would you feel like you had to explain away all kinds of stuff, like exposed backs of pages, empty pages, etc.?
Or do you feel totally confident and comfortable with your albums as they are right now?

A lot of my older albums are missing layouts because I took them out for publication and didn't put them back in.  Current layouts do not suffer from that problem.
I really have no problem handing any album over to anyone who wants to see it. I don't feel like I need to explain anything.

Hmmm. Last 5 or 6 years are up to date, but the baby-pre school ones have a few waiting to be finished pages. I tend to especially leave the title page. I think I am missing at least 6 of them (and this years!). I really need to sort them out. | |

A lot of my albums are "works-in-progress", so yeah, there are empty page protectors, and some visible backs of LOs. Doesn't bother me a bit!  Anyone looking at my albums is going to be either friends or family, and just interested in the pictures and stories. |

My albums are all filled with random layouts. No rhyme or reason and no gaps. I originally thought I would someday organize them, but now I think they will just stay as they are. |

I just scrap what I feel like, there is no rhyme or reason to what I scrapbook so my albums are more a selection of pages from random events. They certainly don't display our life as a whole, just parts of it. I sometimes have unfinsihed pages in there that I need to finish but am more than happy to share with people.
I do have to explain my albums, but more because I am the only scrapbooker I know so I have to explain what it's all about. Not what is missing or incomplete. |

I feel totally confident with the 10 or so albums I have but then there's the huge stack of layouts sitting in my armoire. I plan to devote February to organizing my photos and unfiled layouts.
In my earliest albums, I might have to explain away some of the huge die cuts because I'm sure people would be wondering why I used them!  I'm wondering that myself! | |

My albums are ready! I don't put my pages in an album until all of the pages for that album are done. I put them in chronologically for that year with no gaps and they are done! |

Mine are completely ready for viewing and finished, except the two I'm currently working on. I don't think I'd have to explain anything, unless I had a layout or two where the journaling left something to be desired. |

My pages don't go into an album until they are done. My journaling may be lacking here and there but other than that, they are totally viewer ready! |

I do not put a page in an album until I am 100% happy with the photos and journaling and page design. |

I have about 10 albums that are totally viewer ready, but the other 10-ish are missing pages due to publication or scrapping out of order. I also have a stack of about 100 pages waiting to be placed in albums. Yowza! |

My albums are always ready to be viewed because almost all of them are gifts,so no one sees them until they are complete. I do have several albums that are on-going works in progress and they are also ready to view because I put the pages in order by date and will only be complete when there is no more room for a page protector. I always put my LO's in an album as soon as they are done. |

I keep my layouts in an Iris box until I've finished the whole year, then they are put in an album. So all my albums are complete. | |

I consider any of my albums viewer ready. The viewer doesn't know what pages are "missing" or what events have not been scrapped...yet.  |

With a single notable exception, mine are ready to viewer. The journalling tells the story. I have a few have an odd black page backs, but nothing extreme. Many are missing stories, but a casual view wouldn't notice. That and it looks like we've been MIA since September 2012, but I just got my photos back from the printer today and will be working on those shortly.
Most of my albums have a title page of some sort, and labels on the spines.
If anyone were to comment (most likely on an empty page) I'd likely say that most of my albums are works in progress. I'm currently going back and filling in some of the missing stories. Like our wedding. A page or two will do. We didn't have a wedding that would warrant an album. |

If they are in the album, they are done and ready for viewing. I'm excited if someone actually wants to look at them! With teen boys at home, they don't get a lot of use.

I scrapbook right away an event. This is the only way I can make myself be caught up. But this just started this year. I let people see pages in progress as well as completed. | |

I scrap "out of order" but put them in albums in chronological order. Therefore, I have pages throughout MOST of my albums that aren't finished. Those pages just have a small stack of photos stuck in the designated page protector. I have to explan to anyone who thumbs through the albums, that they are a work in progress, which is why every so often there are "unfinished" pages. This doesn't bother me at all, people just flip over the unfinished layouts to get to the next "good" one.
I'm happy that I still have photos from 6 years ago that aren't scrapbooked. I think I will love to go back when my babies are older and scrapbook a few baby pictures using the "latest and greatest". Sometimes I feel bad that most of my oldest child's baby pages are not as nicely designed as my more current pages. But I will NOT re-do layouts, so that's just the way it will be, thankfully there are a few newborn/infant pictures of her that I didn't scrapbook yet |

Everything in an album is ready to be viewed, though I do have a vacation album still in progress.
The kids' albums are not in chrono order but there are no open spaces. Others, like the Christmas album isn't full but I just add each year as we go along. Up to the current year it is complete. |

Even if it's a book in progress, you can see the pages I've done so far. My albums are "complete" in the sense that each page is finished when I put it in, and I don't take any out, leave gaps for later, etc.

Some of my albums are viewer ready in that I wouldn't feel the need to explain what was going on, but these are usually event specific albums. For instance I went to San Francisco on holiday in 2010, and that album I consider "finished" in that I've scrapped all the photos I got printed, so I could hand it to someone and they would be able to see what I did, how I felt, etc.
However, it is currently not in chronological order of the trip itself. Bits of it are, but some aren't, so maybe I'd want to look at that. It doesn't bug me so much because the stories are there and it's not so important that things are in the wrong order because it's all documenting 1 week as opposed to a longer time that might need more specific ordering.
That doesn't mean there aren't things I'd like to add to it to make it more viewer friendly. I'd like to add a title page that explains the holiday, because right now you open it and it launches into the first day. But I would hand it to someone and say "This is my SF album" so again that isn't too big an issue for me yet.
My everyday albums are a complete jumble. These are not viewer friendly at all! I go through phases where everything is in order, and then phases (like now) where I haven't got enough 12x12 protectors/albums so my layouts are stacking up or shoved in any order just to get them in and not lying around. These albums wouldn't make sense to anyone, and you've reminded me that I should go back and reorder them so they at least have the same events grouped together, or the same year!
I don't leave empty page protectors between layouts because I'd rather get them in an album than leave them out, if anything they'll all be at the end waiting for layouts so don't really require an explanation as someone flips through.
I don't feel the need to explain to people because when it comes down to it, they won't know what's "missing" unless I tell them. To them, it's an album full of layouts, and as long as each stands on it's own to explain a story, or they can see "oh yes this was all one event", then I'm happy for them to flip through without fear of them thinking it's not ready. If it's in the album, it's ready to be viewed as a finished page even if it's not a finished album | |

Completely. I don't pull layouts out and they do not go in until the page is 100% done. I have a WIP bin for anything that is waiting for something to be done. Once it is in the album, it is done. |

I was going to say that all of them are 100% viewer ready but then realized that I have two vacation albums that aren't done. One is really bad - I have a lot of photos and decided to make it mostly digital, but after 4 layouts, I hated it and just stopped. I keep thinking about getting at it again, but just haven't. I'm not sure what happened with the second vacation one... I was going at full speed and then just suddenly stopped mid-way. Hmm, maybe I should pick that one up and finish it...
As for the others, they are filled with random layouts of photos or memories I love. They aren't scrapped chronologically, but as I complete a layout, it gets put in the album where it belongs. Those are the fun ones to look through. Always makes me smile looking at those ones! |

They are not even remotely "viewer-ready". 
With the exception of my PL, I haven't put a page in a page protector for almost a year. I have a stack on my desk that is about 18 inches high. I'm struggling with how I want to organize my pages. I'm a non-chronological scrapbooker and I'm now overwhelmed with the amount of unorganized pages I have, as well as the cost of the albums I'll need to buy to get them all organized. | |

I usually would look at scrapbooks with whomever was viewing them, but most of my pages would be pretty obvious to a reader. It might be necessary to read the journaling, and that is usually right on front of the page instead of hidden. So they will usually know most of what's going on just by reading it. Either DH or I fill them in on the rest.
But here's one (funny) example of why I can't assume they will even read the journaling. My 2012 book contains a page about the birth of my nephew's son in February. My nephew and his son both have the same first name. In December, I showed the entire book to my stepchildren's real mom, as we get along and spent Christmas with her. She was still married to DH when this nephew was born, but she's out of the loop as to what any of DH's family here in California is doing these days. So, when she saw the picture of the baby born in February, even though everything else in the book was clearly from 2012, and the journaling was clear that this one was too, she assumed that the baby's picture was from 1983, when her then-nephew was born. No, that's his son! |

Pinkforever -- I think that's a really good idea. I've been shown people's pages before where I couldn't figure out what the page was supposed to be about but the scrapbooker thought it was all self-explanatory. I've also noticed how often scrapbookers put their pages up in the gallery, and then add a comment that explains what the page is about, but there is no explanation/journaling/story on the actual layout.

I have no problems with anyone looking at my albums the way they are right now. There are some empty spaces where LO's will eventually go, but there are still LO's in the albums for people to look at. Since I don't scrap in order, but put them in albums in order, there are always older and current pictures to look at |
