I normally say "no, don't do it!" when people ask about re-doing their scrapbook pages, but I finally did one of those recently myself, and I'm really glad I did it!
See my page make-over in the gallery, here.
I've been learning so much lately about leading your eye with a visual triangle, embellishment clusters, etc. to add interest to the page, and this layout didn't have ANY of that. I didn't start over completely from scratch, but I did modify the layout quite a bit (I think) in terms of the final 'look' of it, and I think it's a major improvement. I have a few more kind-of-unfinished layouts that I'm going to do the same thing, too, now. (not many, but the couple I'm thinking of are sadly lacking in design details.)
Has anyone else done this, and what were your[/i] results??

I've never redone a page, but have thought about it.
Your LO is very cute. I like the doilies. |

I just finished redoing a LO tonight. This was my first time doing that. I really disliked the original, so I took the time to redo it. I agree with you Jennifer, that this not the habbit that I want to get into. Your new LO is lovely, btw. Well worth the effort.

Great makeover!
I have also never done a re-do of a LO, but I'm considering it now. There's a LO in my 2010 album that's pretty bare, and oddly enough, it is also about flowers!
Did you have any issues with removing adhesive, or were you able to work around it? |

I think there are occasions where a makeover is the right thing to do. I just pulled out a layout that I had made a few years ago and half the title has fallen off because the adhesive has died I don't have the same letters and there is big marks where the letters were so I'll deffinately have to go back over it. Good on you for giving it a go |

I love the finished product
I have a few pages that I would like to totaly re-do and start from scratch. Most of my layouts I am happy with but I started scrapbooking with events like my 18th birthday, formal/prom, 21st etc. These pages mean the world to me and I would never get rid of them but I know so much more now and would love to do them again, its on my list of things to get done. |

Thanks for sharing this. It was interesting to see how you kept the same background but added the doilies, etc. The new one is very pleasing to the eye.

I liked the original well enough but the new layout is really beautiful! I love all the little details you added and the original left my eyes sort of wandering while the new one really led me around the page. Nicely done!

I really like your transformed layout! I've always liked 'before' and 'after' processes, so this was really interesting to see. I know I have a few LOs I could add to, I'll have to go through them today. TFS! |

thanks, guys! I like it so much better... and now it won't bug me anymore every time I look at it!
to TexasJen:
I use the pink ATG gun for my adhesive and use pretty small pieces of tape, so there wasn't too much adhesive to fight with. And, I knew I was going to put things back in pretty much the same place, so it wouldn't have worried me too much if the paper had ripped up a bit from the background, for instance. I use UnDo to remove the elements I had to lift up / remove... it un-sticks the adhesive with no problem. The added bonus with UnDo is that the stickers stay sticky so you can re-use them! I set the stickers onto a plastic page protector to keep them safely out of the way while I worked on the page, then stuck them back down, setting them into place with a plastic chisel tool that I have just for moving stickers around.
I need to get another bottle of UnDo, though- mine is only about 1/4 full, and I don't want to run out in case I get the urge to renovate any more layouts!

Nice make-over! I really like how much more visible your title is, after adding the doilies and placing the title on top.

Jennifer - Well I went to your blog to get a better look and read how you redid your layout. So while I'm there, I notice your scrolling Sheltie photos. So of course I have to click on it and go to your Flickr to see more. Oh my gosh, they are all so beautiful!!
As you see, I have 2 Shelties. Your photos of them running and playing are exactly what my two do every single day. It's the funniest thing and so cute to watch! Aren't they the greatest pups ever?
I really enjoyed looking at all your photos of them and their layouts!
And I think your makeover layout turned out great!

thank you, SheltieLuvr!! I have to say, every time I see your avatar a message thread, it makes me smile, too! As do our Shelties, lol!! They are the best- and smartest- dogs ever, aren't they?!? (of course, we might be a wee bit biased, lol! )
thanks for stopping my blog!

Yes, Jennifer - we are a little bit bias!
But I do think they are so smart and awesome dogs. We have had 2 other shelties over the years and we still miss them. DH and I have been married 24 years and we got our first sheltie before we had kids. They are such a big part of our family!
Do they get along well with your cats? Ours will see cats outside and want to chase them. We had a bunny for 9 years along with a previous sheltie. They got along great!

Well done!
I think one of the wonderful things about a craft is that it gives us the ability to reflect on ourselves and go back and improve areas since we have learnt initially. It sounds like this was a good opportunity for some self reflection and challenging your comfort zone, which can be fun and inspiring.
I have plans to at some point return to the first few LOs I made way back in the day. They completely lack many fundamental design elements and I'm happy to go back and re-do because for me, it's most important that I'm happy with my work, whether it's old or new.

Thank you for this thread! You've inspired me to re-do one that is a very meaningful sentiment for me, but I just don't love the LO. We should have this be a challenge thread |

I have redone for the same reason - now that I have been paying attention to good design theory I don't like some of my old pages. I didn't photograph any of the 'before' pages, so I can't share them, but I did post about how my style has changed in one short year
