....help me remember... Can you paint over multimedium or not? Dyan Reaveley told us in class and now I can remember! What about matte glue n seal? Can you paint over that? |

I do a lot of mixed media art and don't know what mulitmedium is. I searched in google but could not find anything. The matte finish is a Ranger product I've never tried. Dyan's stamp and inks are made by ranger, so she is going to use and suggest Ranger products. It may be similar to the soft gel medium in a matte finish by Golden's, which is what I use as a glue and sealer.
I do paint over gel medium with Golden's regular acrylics in the tube if I want intense thicker color with dimension or fluid acrylics in (the bottle has a top lid) for a softer, smoother look. If you do any stamping, use Stazon ink. |

I am pretty sure you can paint over Glue 'n Seal. I have not had any classes with Dyan, but Tim taught us to use a thin layer of G 'n S over slick or other troublesome products to give them "tooth" to grab inks & such.
For example, after treatment in this way & drying, shiny stickers/ tissue tape etc (I have tried both of these personally) will "grab" even his water-based Distress Inks, which will be subtle in colour but not rub off. By process of reasoning, paint will "grab". Please come back & let us know. | |

Dyan let me know that both matte multimedium and glue n seal work as a resist -so you can NOT paint over them. |

You can paint over multi-medium with acrylic paint if you do not water it down. Actually multi-medium or gel medium is an extender for acrylic paint, meaning you can use it instead of water to thin out your paint or make it more transparent. You won't get that water color look, but instead more of an oil paint feel or look.
