would you please tell me why. Not interested, can't afford one, no space to put one, etc.
Please, if you DO NOT own a die cut machine, don't read and not reply. I really want to know.
I tried to do a search but didn't come up with anything. |

I don't want to invest that much money . Also I am really good with xacto knife and can pretty much cut any font/shape with it. |

I don't have one, I also don't use stamps or punches much. I don't have a lot of room to store, haven't had extra money to spend. Right now I haven't had time to scrap in a couple of years, but I'm hoping to get back into it soon.
I print on vellum or clear acetate and attach it to my pages, or I print letters and cut them out with an exacto knife or tiny scissors.
I really don't even "do" titles much anyway.
HOWEVER....I am considering a Cameo right now for three reasons.
1. my DD is getting married in the fall and she wants me to make banners and signs for the reception
2. my dad builds model airplanes and needs help with some of the numbers & letters he puts on them.....I'm trying to figure out if the Cameo can do what he wants
3. I don't like to buy embellishments and would prefer to just cut one out if I want it.
Now that my DD has finished college and moved out for good, I do have more space, and I've sold enough stuff on ebay to save up for a Cameo, just hard for me to spend the money on a hobby.
Do you have one? Are you considering one? You can't ask the question without telling us why....

I do have a few now, and here's why/how it happened.
They were pricey (well, still kind of are). I would look at the sizzix manual machine in Michaels but never got one. I got my first machine, the little cricut, for Christmas 6 years ago from my MIL.
Then I got a cuttlebug because I won it in a contest. Maybe 4 years ago? Not sure how long I've had it now.
And now I have a cake machine that I use as an expression. I got it for $50 with free shipping during a sale at cricutmachine.com - last year I think. It came with 2 cartridges that I sold off so in the end it was $10 for a new machine.
So, even though I have machines now, they had been cost-prohibitive to me before. An e-machine that is more accurate than the cricut would be nice but I can't see myself forking over the money for one.
BTW - I do not have a lot of space either but that is not something that would stop me necessarily. |

Nope don't have one. Contemplated it many many times. I would probably go with a computer style, cameo, e-machine something like that. Mostly it has been the cost. Also, I'm afraid of getting one and not using it enough to justify the cost.
Now if anyone has a used one they want to sell.....ummmm

I own three - a Sizzix manual one, a Sidekick and a Cameo.
I can honestly say I bought the Sizzix because it was a fad. I never used it that much for shapes. It was only when they created the Sizzlet alphabets that I began to use it and the Sidekick more. Until then, I just found it easier to purchase pre-made die-cuts and/or stickers to get the effects I wanted on my page.
I resisted the Cameo for the longest time because I thought it was just another die-cut machine. It was only after I realized that I could cut my existing fonts with it that I wanted one. I still didn't rush out to buy one, though. I just put it on my wishlist and DH surprised me with it at Xmas.
I've got to say that I was GREATLY influenced by the blogs of Summer Fullerton and Nicol Magouirk when I chose to place the Cameo on my wishlist. They both use it A LOT on their pages and I was so inspired by the versatility I found in those layouts that I just KNEW I had to have one for myself.

I use stickers!!
The few times I have needed some die cuts, I either bought them, or I went to a scrap store and you could use the die cuts for free as long as you bought the paper there. The scrap store used the Ellison die cuts.

I don't have enough space. That is the number one reason.
Because even if they were out of my budget, I could save awhile or buy one second hand or whatever.
But I still wouldn't have any more space.
Plus, I am hugely indecisive, so by the time I finally decided that this was *THE* cutting system for me, 3 new ones would be on the market and I would have to start all over again.
Oh yes, and this, too:

I do have a Sizzix Sidekick, which I use every so often with the two Sizzlit alphabets I own. But I don't have any major die cutting system yet, like a Silhouette or any of the larger manual machines. I would love to get a Silhouette, but I just can't afford it right now. I'm leaning toward the Portrait, because I only scrap 8.5x11 anyway, and it is at the very least more affordable than the Cameo...but even $179 is pretty steep for me, at the moment. We'll see! I'm planning on buying it eventually. |

It's not that I am not interested, but lots of reasons why I don't own one.
1. Not enough storage space really.
2. Kind of pricey investment.
3. I am not tech stupid, but have been promising myself for several years to become more proficient in PSE and still haven't.
4. Takes me a while to jump on a bandwagon. And usually by the time I do, everyone else has moved on
I have seriously considered three die cut machines over the years. A Quickutz (several years ago) came close to buying it, didn't and now am glad I didn't.
The Slice. Came really close to buying that one, didn't and now am really glad. Are they even still making them?
And the Cameo. I think it does amazing things, but I guess see my list at the top
At this point over the years I have survived without one. So I am sure I can go a little longer without one.

I do own an original cricut, which I received as a gift (would never have purchased it myself) and have not used in years. I have no desire for a cameo or SIL or anythig else.
Here's why -
1) I do not want any machine that I have to hook up to a computer. It stresses me out and seems needlessly complicated (and I'm not old, it just seems like too much work).
2) I don't like using the same designs over and over again. If I use something once I probably won't use it on a LO again. I get bored easily and always want the newest, latest, and greatest. So cricut carts and dies seem like a silly investment for me.
3) It's too much trouble to get the machine put, plugged in, and going. It's so much easier to grab a pack of thickers.
4) If I am going to use a die, I would rather have an old school steel die than an electronic cutter bc I am more likely to cut grungeboard, thick chipboard, or fabric than I am to cut paper.

I do have a quickutz epic 6 and rarely use it. I don't have a space I can leave it out and it does seem to take a lot of effort when I want to scrap quickly. It frustrates me to have to cut 3 layers of the same item so I can make it look like the package.
I would like to have a cricut or cameo to cut welded cursive titles and a few other things, but here are my reasons:
1. Time. Having to set up the computer, make cuts, etc
2. Space. I just got my scrap space in our new house but I'm about to have to use that room for something else, so I won't have anywhere to leave it out.
3. Cost. When there are other things I want (new lens, things for house, clothes, things for children, etc) the cost is pricey. Supplies for upkeep like mats, cut files, and things add to the cost as well.
4. I am a visual learner and if I don't have someone to physically show me how to operate something and then let me do it, I'll likely never use it. |

I don't have any type of die cut machine... never have.
Originally, this was because I had no interest is spending oodles of money on a few shapes that I would *never* get my money's worth out of. I couldn't imagine buying die after die (or cartridge after cartridge) to get just one or two shapes I wanted, and then would likely never use again. The only shapes I use over and over I already have as punches.
I would consider getting a Cameo, because I wouldn't need dies or cartridges. HOWEVER, I really only ever feel like I *want* one when I making cards with repetitive elements (I get kind of bored cutting the same shapes out over and over ). I also am liking the trend of cutting words/shapes out of one paper and layering patterns underneath. Totally do-able without the machine, but probably much easier with one.
Honestly, though, I don't have the money or the space for it right now. And for as little as I think I'd use it, buying one is not a priority. I'm not a big fan of die-cut titles... I prefer using my Thickers for that. I almost never use great big die-cut-like elements, so I wouldn't really be using it for those either. Knowing how *I* personally like to scrap, I think the machine would end up being a very expensive, super-under-utilized toy...
that I would absolutely accept with a big and "thank you" if anyone felt like giving me one. |

in my mind (although i KNOW this is not true) the die cuts are cutesy wootsie. i don't scrap by holidays, so i don't need a shamrock diecut. i don't really care about different fonts all that much. even when i've gone to crops with my sister and she brings her cricut, i think i've used it twice. i don't like the interruption to go find what i want, feed it in, move the paper, or whatever. i could just grab thickers or stickers. yes, less variety, but i'm ok with that.
i also would rather spend my $$ on stuff other than cartridges.
i don't have the room, or don't want to find the room.
i DO have about 20 punches and edgers, in general shapes like hearts, circles, squares, scallops.
it's been 7 or so years and i have never thought about buying one. well wait, i did consider the slice for a day or two. thankfully i did NOT get one!!

I have a big shot and the only reason I got it was that it ws 60% off and I want it for embossing, not die cutting. I got it about 4 months ago and am still to use it. But I haven't scrapped in months so I'm sure it will be christened once I get time to scrap again.
I won't buy a criket or any of those types, mainly because I begrudge paying all that money for cartridges. Besides, I have a heap of punches I've collected over the years, so for me buying a machine would be a waste of money. |

I don't own any type of die cutting machine, manual or electronic.
I like the fact that my scrapbooking is one of the few things that doesn't require a computer. In fact, the thought of needing to do anything on my computer would completely ruin any creativity I had - it messes with my crafting mojo to have to stop and drag out my laptop, etc.
Also, I tend to think of die cutting machines like my printer. I have one - I inherited it about four years ago and have never used it. I simply can't justify the hugely expensive cost of buying ink for the tiny amount I typically need to use it.

I would love to have a cameo, I drool over many layouts using cut files. My reason is that I have spent SO MUCH MONEY on so much product, and right now I don't create art or scrapbook nearly as much as I would like to or feel like I "should." So it isn't wise for me to lay down hundreds of dollars for something I might not use enough, or before I use up at least half my hoarded products.

I don't have one, mostly because I tend to go in spurts when it comes to scrapping and I don't have a ton of storage space. I also thought I would never use it enough and the idea of having to buy so many different things to have a variety put me off. I am now considering a Silhouette Portrait though because of the computer aspect and I am hoping to start PL and continue it since that is how I plan to do my baby's book come May.

A few reasons....I feel like its something I would invest in and rarely use. I tend to not like to pull out big items when scrapping. I don't even like printing photos and journaling as I scrap. I handwrite and use 4x6 photos I get through snapfish. Also...the space is an issue. I only have a small corner of our bedroom. |

^^^This for me, too-- I think I saw a Silhouette (?) at a quilting store, and they said they had classes or demonstrations of it. (can that even be right? would it cut fabric? maybe I'm mis-remembering.)
Anyway, if I could see it in person and see how fab it might be to use (and how difficult or easy it was), I might be more inclined to get one. There's no store around me that has one, though.

I own a Big Red Sizzix (it was a gift) but I don't own any electronic machines and have no intentions of getting one.
I have several reasons for not owning any electronic die cutters:
(1) I really like to make my own embellies: I find using an Xacto to be really enjoyable. (That probably sounds weird but I really like detail and feel such a sense of accomplishment that my stuff is truly unique).
(2) I am not tech savvy and (to me) it looks like a strong familiarity with tech would be needed to get efficient use from an electronic die cut machine. Additionally, I can't see myself shelling out money to buy files or cartridges: they're not that expensive but the nickel and diming would drive me batty and it adds up quickly.
(3) It seems to me that after awhile all those welded titles look alike and no longer look different or edgy. There is too much similarity in the appearance and sometimes the welding is not easily readable. Again, only my opinion and I might be in the minority on that.
(4) I've seen enough threads about issues with large corporations (who shall remain unnamed) and inaccessibilty to linked cartridges, etc. I can grab my little curved scissors anytime and create my very own paper piecing or title without needing licensing, permission, or the Grand Poobah to sign off on me using my imagination. Easy peasy.
(5) In terms of scrap supplies, there's a lot I can do with several hundred dollars instead of spending it on a single machine. The price of an electronic machine gets me pretty far in terms of quality and quantity of supplies since I often buy on sale and clearance. I just can't justify the expense.
(6) I don't have any lifetime events coming up that I would need to replicate a lot of the same elements over and over. No weddings, no babies, no retirement, and I don't throw a lot of parties. Just not necessary for my lifestyle and stage in life.
(7) My cursive is illegible and unreadable so it's not necessary (or desirable) to come up with a font of my own handwriting. Sometimes I can't read my own writing, it's that bad.
How about you, OP? Inquiring minds want to know. |

I don't own any sort of die cut machine, mainly because its not in my budget.
Another reason is because my local scrapbook store (Scraparazzi in Whittier) has a cutting room with a few Cricuts (and a few dozen Cricut cartridges), a large die cut machine with several dies, a few dozen punches, a few Sizzix machines (mainly used for embossing), and a couple other machines that I am not familiar with
Point being, if I need to use one of those tools, I have access to it on crop nights. If I wanted to purchase all those tools on my own, it would be way out of my budget.

Before when I didn't own any die cut machine, there were lots of reasons. I was in the beginner stages of scrapping. I thought the Sizzix was cool but I wasn't crazy about the shapes and at that time I really couldn't afford it. Then a few years later I had money and purchased a Zipemate. It sat for a while before I could use it b/c there weren't many shapes I would or could use, and I couldn't afford the letters.
Then the Cuttlebug came out and I bought that and got a deal on some letters and I used it more. I never got into the Cricut b/c I was afraid I'd be annoyed at the learning curve and didn't like the shapes.
Got the Slice, and LOVED it. It was the perfect machine for my needs--small, affordable, cards were a good value in my eyes, and it was easy to use. Great until I ended up with 3 duds.
I have a Big Shot express now, but I still don't buy alphas or shapes all that often. Right now I can't afford them and I am way more into stamps. I do think I scrapped/made more cards/more productive when I had my Slice, and so I "think" if I got the Cameo I would be in good shape, but in all reality, I don't think I really want it anymore. I just want to be able to cut the shape without a lot of guess work and the way computers are to me, we'd fight a lot.
So basically it was affordability, health reasons (hand crank was killing my arms with my fibro, and now I have Big Shot express it's better), and likeness of the cartriges.
At this point I have a HUGE, GIGANTIC "crush" on Lawn Fawn stamps and I think that would satisfy my need for shapes and cuts b/c I am happy to cut them out. |

I would LOVE to get a Cameo but at the end of the day, I'm gonna be too lazy to do the cuts I need. I come up with stuff in the spur if the moment and I would hate to stop in the middle of my LO to do the cutting.
Then, there's so many costs that come with owning a machine like the mats and the blades and the files. |

My friends have them, but I have never been interested. I can buy or I probably already have stickers, die cuts, tags, alphabet letters, etc. that I need to do my pages. I am afraid I would invest the money and not use it. Plus I can buy a lot for the cost of the machine and the cutty things (dies or cartridges). Don't think I will ever buy one. And I have been doing scrapping and cards for many years, so I am pretty certain I won't change my mind. |

I do own a lot of die cutters. For the most part I actually don't use my die cutters for paper crafting. Here's my reasons why-
I have no need to make multiples.
I am a really good with Xacto knives & scissors. I found it relaxing to use them. I get in my own world when I am fussy cutting. I find fussy cutting relaxing.
A lot of times when I am paper crafting I found it a big hassle to prepare the mat, load the mat, prepare the design, take the design off the mat, clean the mat all for one flower or small title. I rather make it by hand.
I like to work with small tools. Having loads of big tools around me just kills my mojo.
I bought my die cutters to make my own embellishments. I keep buying embellishments. I have learned a way I don't need to rely on a cutter to make an embellishment. I just discovered this about myself when I was musing about my art style the other day.
Why I do love my die cutters because I do a lot of commissions for other people. I am taking a step back from that because I am getting overwhelmed. I like to work with vinyl and other materials. If I was just a paper crafter I would not own an electronic die cutter. I would own a Cuttlebug because I love to emboss. |

I want one sooooo badly. Just for the fonts. I could manage nicely with 3 or 4 fonts and never need another thicker or letter sticker. I cant justify the cost right now. I keep hoping someone will get me one for christmas or birthday. |
