So do you scrap chrinologically? Or are you like me and just grab random photos to scrap?
I have so many pictures from my childhood and I would like to have just one album for my pics but I seem to lose my "mojo" when scrapping one subject for long periods...any suggestions on pushing through? |

Yes, I do scrap chrono. I started out not doing it that way but I didn't like being all over the place and then having to rearrange LO's because there's NO WAY I could have them random in an album. I've been working on my kids' albums though.
I occasionally will work on some for me, but in that case I haven't done it all chrono since I don't have a lot of pics anyway so it's not as bad to rearrange. And I haven't been sticking them in the album for awhile anyway, so right now it'd be easier to get them in order. |

I scrap whatever fits my mood that day but they go into the albums in chronological order.
I hate to admit it but I am pretty anal about the chronological order thing in my albums. probably an OCD thing, lol.
For your childhood pics you could make some page kits with them and then grab one when the mood strikes and scrap other stuff other things when it doesn't. When you're done with your childhood pics put them in an album in chrono order.

Pretty random. I will go backwards through my photos (newest first)when choosing what to scrap, but I pick whatever suits my fancy...or the new patterned papers that i have! |

I have thought about doing that. The page kit thing but...I am a chaotic scrapper (check out my blog if you don't know I mean) so I have never been anygood at making kits.
Also-- the We R Memory Keepers Albums- These are D-Ring albums right??
I deperately need a new album to get my LO's in order.

I don't scrap in order, but I scrap what photos I want to work on, and then I do put the layouts in the album in chronological order. That lets me have the freedom to do whatever pictures I have ideas and inspiration for instead of scrapping them in order and getting stuck, but they are still in chronological order in my albums.
It's a little harder to do this if you are using a strap hinge album like CM. I use CTMH top loading albums. |

Me too. It drives me crazy not to have them in order, and generally speaking, I like to know the date the photo was taken. I might not put the actual date on every lo, but I do have it on every few lo's so that I will know when it was taken.
As for suggestions, I would do a few at a time. Maybe mix it up with other scrapping or card making if you find yourself losing interest, and then go back to it.

Let's just say I am so anal about having my pics/layouts in order that when I've had photos without dates on them, I've studied pictures for clothing and haircuts to figure out the time of year and which ones were taken before or after other ones. |

I scrap whatever feels right at the time, but put the LOs in chrono order.
About the CM strap hinge albums...
I have a few but I mostly use post albums now. For the strap hinge, I don't scrap directly on top of the page anymore. I now scrapbook on a background paper that is cut to fit within the side "bars" of the page. I then adhere the LO to the page with very strong adhesive when I am ready to put the LO in order in the album.
I started doing this when I realized that I had forgotten to scrap something and the pages were getting out of order.

I mostly scrap chronologically, but that is because every single photo I have in my "to scrap" photo is from the last 8 months or so. I've finished all my vacation albums. I haven't taken any of the photos my parents have of me when I was younger. Since I started scrapbooking five years ago I've pretty much always been working on current photos. So, my chronological scrapping is more a product of what I have available than any real preference.
When I do have vacation photos I'll go back and forth between that and my annual album, depending on my mood.

I absolutely scrapbook chronologically. Its like OCD or something in the fact that I can't just skip ahead. It helps that I don't have photos from my childhood and I started scrapbooking when my oldest was only a few months old. |

I used to scrap chrono back when I used film. I would pick up an envelope of photos, decide what to scrap and work on them right away. Now I'm all over the place.
For your childhood album you could sort out the photos into the page protectors. Then you could work on a story or event that inspires you but keep the finished pages in chronological order.
You could also leave the project and work on other things and come back to it when you feel the inspiration. |

I don't really know what to call what I do! LOL I started scrapping chrono, but when I had 2 kids in 2 years, I got really behind. So I started focusing on their 1st year books. Ds5 is mostly done, I've recently started on dd3's book. Her book is not organized chrono but by theme (pregnancy, birth, 1 year by month, milestones, days to celebrate, family, friends).
Then I also just scrap random pictures. But I usually pick a time period, and scrap with in that. I want to star organizing like LOM but for now am just putting things randomly in an album, besides dad's album.
I think I'm just confused!

I scrap whatever strikes my fancy right then and then I put the LOs in Chrono order. Doing it this way means I have a lot of unfinished albums, but it does keep me scrapping.
In 2001, I got bogged down by the LOs I was doing about September 11. I was using a strap-hinge album at the time and had to do things in order. It took me the longest time to finish that album because I got hung up on those few pages because I felt they were so important. After that album was finished, I went to 3-ring albums and started jumping all over the place.

So it is not just me. YAY!! It seems like I would like to sit down and do them chrono but I can't. I try, I can't. And no my albums are not in order mainly because I have just started scrapping again and before I only scrapped maybe 10 pages. So, since I started back almost 11 months ago I have finished 41 pages and they are all in one album!!!
I know some of you are thinking 51 pages EVER...Yes EVER. I have made 6 or so mini albums but 51 pages...yep, that's it.

I don't scrap chronologically. Most of my photos are random, sort of everyday photos, anyway, and I scrap mostly for the creative release, not as much for the memory keeping, though that's a big reason, too. So I don't see any need in my own life to scrap chronologically. I just pick whatever photos make me happy at the time, or go with the papers I want to use. This weekend I'm trying to use up some of my Sketchbook papers, so today I scrapped a photo of a sea turtle from a recent trip to the aquarium, and then I moved on to a two-year-old photo of my mom, sister and me from my sister's rehearsal dinner, because both photos matched my papers! |

I don't really scrap chronologically, but I'll often do two or three pages from the same time at one - like right now I'm doing some pages from Christmas 2012. Although right before that I did a LO of DS with pumpkins in fall 2011. And before that I was working on his baby album from 2010.
I do put all the pages in chrono order in my albums though - that's totally how I think and how I remember events, so it works for me.
When I get close to finishing a year though, I'll often go ahead and push through the last handful of LOs to get that year done. I have so few years finished (just 2007 and 2008 I think), that I like the accomplishment. Also, it's just less to keep track of! Especially since I want to start going back and doing some childhood pictures, and track down some more film pictures from my college days. |

I scrap whatever photos speak to me, usually inspired by a story I want to capture. I scrap photos from various decades, and I love that kind of variety.
If you are looking for a motivator and kits aren't your thing, maybe try placing your photos in your 'childhood' album in divided page protectors. Pull photos as you want to scrap them. The photos are viewable, even if they aren't scrapped and you can make notes as you think of memories/stories. I find having the photos readily viewable makes it more likely for me to scrap them.
There are occasions where I try to plough through an album, but I just can't do the chronological thing. It drains my desire to work on my layouts. I'm also happy to let an album rest. It lets me regain some perspective and I'm happier with my albums in the long run. |

I scrap randomly, dependent on whether it is a photo I want to scrap or products I want to use, or which photos will suit a sketch. I have tried doing that thing shimelle said when she puts page kits in an album to take to crops which helps me to finish off albums. My scrapbooks are roughly chronological, except if they are by theme, Christmas Halloween etc.

I scrap what takes my fancy on the day, but I don't have children, which I think would make me scrap in order.
My parents recently moved house and found hundreds of photos from my childhood and of theirs too. I spent an age scanning them, many of then had not been printed, so I only had the negative, or they were slides. If I had to scrap in order I think I would have gone into melt down with these by now.
I also have about a hundred photos of my grand parents and great grand parents, the oldest dating back to the 1880s. I really don't think I could possibly scrap these in order as there are only so many sepia pictures I can scrap at one sitting.
I do try to scrap current pictures in some kind of order, but I don't worry about it too much. And, horror of horrors, I just put all my layouts in the same albums. I keep promising myself that one day I will go through them all and sort them out, but never seem to get round to it. |

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has to have the photos in order. It is one of the reasons I use a 3 ring binder, so I can go back and add pages into the right 'place' if someone gives me photos, or I find some I hadn't put in yet.

I used to scrap chronologically but I can't keep up with all the photos and I'd print new photos and want to scrap them right away...so I did. Now I scrap whatever I feel like at the moment but I put my finished layouts in a dated by year Iris box. When I finish that years layouts they go into an album. Right now I've got 4 Iris boxes with layouts. So far this is working fine for me.

I scrap what ever photos I want when ever I want, but most go in albums in chrono order.
This weekend I scrapped photos from 1970 and Dec 2012
The 2012 LO's will go in the 2012 album in progress and the 1970 photos will go in my DH's family album as most of the photos are random.
All my photos from 1980 on will be in chrono order, that was when Dh and I got married. All others go in "family" albums (my family or DH's family).
I also have an ongoing album of random LO's that aren't an event or specific theme, just a story I wanted to scrap (like my fav sandwich, p-nut butter and sweet pickles). |

Like other posters, I work on whatever motivates me but then I store it all chronologically.
The reason I do is I find when I'm looking at old pictures, others' pictures or really, if I am in ANY situation where I am enjoying memories (mine or others'), one of the first things that people ask or say is, "When was this taken?"
Seriously, when do you look at vacation photos, holiday photos or pretty much any occasion and not wonder what year it was or how old people were in the pictures? For me, never.
So when I look through albums, I assume what is at the beginning is the oldest and as you go through, it gets newer and newer.
I actually make albums for others and one lady wants her albums done in a mix of chronological versus thematic and it's SO CONFUSING. Just the other day I was doing up some pages and I just had finished pages about the death of one of her cousins and a few pages later, there he was again. Alive and well! LOL (It was because she was talking about her family's participation in a particular sport.) To me it would have made no sense to have him appear in an album after the pages about his FUNERAL!

Me, too. I think scrapbooking should be fun and something I do to relax. I don't want to "push through".
If you are in love with strap hinged albums, could you store your layouts in a 3 ring binder style as you complete them, until you have an albums worth, then transfer them? |

41 pages in 11 months - that is really good!
I don't scrap chronologically. I couldn't do it.
Like you, I have a lot of childhood photos to scrap but I will tackle them like any other photos. I will use different collections and different styles for different events in my early life, and not try to get a cohesive look for the entire collection of photos.
Don't look at your childhood photos as one single project. That thought is just scary! lol! Take a few from one event and scrap those as you would any event that happened last week.

I am glad to know It is not just me. This week I scrapped 1998, 2003, September 2012, and 1996. And here's one that will drive some of you crazy. None of them are in am album yet. I am out of page protectors so they are just sitting on top of my album.
I see a pic I like I scrap it.
And no, the pages inside of that album are not in any kind of order. I think once I get more pages of events closer together I will start putting them in chrono order.

I couldn't possibly. It would bore me to tears.
I do all my crafting SEASONALLY because that is how I am inspired. For instance, right now, I'm living and breathing Valentine's Day. After that, I'll probably start thinking about Spring soon, then Summer, Fourth of July, etc.
Like around September/October, I'm always really, really inspired to scrap fall because everything in the stores is fall and we go to pumpkin patches. I just love seasons and holidays. I guess it spills over into my crafting.
And I also love to just scrap the every day as it inspires me! I have to be inspired to scrap or it's a chore. I usually start with the story, not the pictures.

I usually scrap whatever I am inspired by. Then it can go into my albums in chronological order. I feel so behind right now because I havent made a dent in my dd's album and she is already 1 month!! I need to just jump in there and get going!! |

when i first started scrapping,it was chrono all the way,but then the fun went out of it,and i began to feel as it was just a chore, so now, i just scrap whatever i feel inspired to scrap, i do try to put them into my albums in some sort of order, but am okay if that this slips up and they are not in the perfect order
life is to be fun, and enjoyed, just like scrapping

I love the idea of scrapping seasonally. I think I would do more of that kinda thing and then possibly trial albums for seasons and occasions. All Christmas LOs together, all wedding and anniversarys together, all autumn together. If I did more scrapbooking.... I wish...

I have a really hard time scrapping chronologically. However, I try and organize my albums as chronologically as possible. Most of my layouts are currently just tossed into the appropriate album with the intention I'll go back and set things right later on. |

I don't scrap photos in chronological order, although I tend to scrap specific events in blocks, then maybe mix it up a bit. But when things go into my album they will be in chronological order
