My mother asked me to do a 12x12 layout of two pictures of my 92 year-old grandfather and his 90 year old sister. One picture was taken of them in the 1940s and is black and white. The other is a current pic in a similar pose. I'm having a hard time deciding if I should print the current pic in black and white to make the layout more cohesive. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't. I think the contrast between the two photos should be highlighted.

Sounds like a lovely story for the scrapbook

I would only convert if the colour photo had too many colours in it, otherwise I think the layout should be all about the contrast. Please post when you have done it

I would keep the pictures as they are. The color adds to the story.

I would convert the current picture to black and white - otherwise it might fight with the background paper or lose the overall effect. Depends, of course, on the two photos.

Here's a layout in which I had the current photo re-sized and changed to black and white.

Keep it the way they are. Taking the color away would take away from the "then and now" theme of the layout.

Thanks for the input Peas! I did decide to keep the current photo in color, as it wasn't too bold and it did reinforce the "then and now" feel I was trying to portray. GeorgiaMolly, your layout is awesome, thanks for sharing!

I would probably have printed both in B&W, but your layout works really well, it was right to keep the current one in colour. I think it helps that the colours are soft, but it was a good call. Your Grandfather and his sister look amazing for their age, what is their secret?

Love the layout too!

I like how you went with the idea of keeping the new one in colour to highlight the differences
