I have a really decent amount of it. I still use it. But I have seen several posts lately about it being "out" or "maybe it will make a comeback". I had no idea it had become dated. I actually thought it was a staple. |

I don't think it is out. At least not in my world it isn't! The only thing I can say is that I do project life in addition to my regular 12x12s and I don't use chipboard elements in that because I try to pick flatter things so I don't have to use multiple albums at the end of the year. But I still use chipboard a lot for other pages. Hope it's not true! |

I still love using chipboard! You know, I really dislike the idea of something going out of style just because a few designers or bloggers say it is...I do not mean the OP or anything...just something I have noticed. I guess it makes a difference if I am on a design team or not. I am scrapping for my pleasure. Just a mini vent. |

I don't use a lot of chipboard because the only chipboard I have isn't really a style that goes with the papers I have. But I posted a mini-tutorial on my blog recently on how to cover chipboard pieces in embossing powder to customize them, and I think that'll help me use up more of it. |

I made the come back comment in the other thread about chipboard & I'm talking about the tons & tons of raw chipboard alphabets & shapes we all collected years ago from Basic Grey or the giant alphas from Rusty Pickle or whatever brand.
I've got tons of raw chipboard & I would love to see a resurgence in it's popularity with new ideas, that makes me want to use it on every page. I surely wasn't the responsible party that made someone think a product was "out of style", lol. So funny.
I should have been more clear that I wasn't thinking of shiney printed chipboard embellishments that are currently in the stores & I wasn't referring to chipboard being trendy or not.
I don't think anyone ever said a thing about them being out of style |

I just used some chipboard on a Valentine banner. I covered the big chipboard hearts with PP and then used some "naked" BG letters to spell "be mine". I covered the letters with Heidi
Swapp color shine and they turned out so pretty
I hope CB is not out of style! I know all my naked alphas are getting a coat of the HS color shine and I might use up some of my stash!!! I can't wait to try it with the gold |

Chipboard is my favorite part of my stash---I MIGHT hoard it a little (okay a lot) and have been known to buy two sets for lines I really love like Crate Fourteen and the new Maggie Holmes. I rarely make a page without it, but I prefer the pre-decorated version for the lazy, lol! |

Chipboard is still a very current product being sold in multiple ways in the industry. It's definitely a staple and I don't see that ever changing since its really just a thicker version of paper. I have a big stash of raw chipboard and printed and I love and use them both! |

I love chip board. I only have the old style from Rustic Pickle. I cover them with paper. I don't think they are lumpy at all.
Also what Dizzy said~ I too was shocked to find what is in and out and now I am just not paying attention. I spent to much money and I wont redo any of my pages cause that was in at the time. Look at it this way Trends always make a come back every 5 years or so.

I love chipboard and will use it whether it is 'in' or not. I bought some really large sheets of naked chipboard a couple of years ago, I live it so much, and use it with my Bigz dies, especially my alphas.
I have done the triple embossing powder thing on it for some years now too, love that look, although thinking about it, I haven't done it for a while, so must dig out the embossing powder and stamps again soon.

I dont think chipboard is "out" though I do find the raw stuff hard to use and the printed stuff super easy to use As far as me personally, I guess that means the raw stuff is out!
However I say use what you like and boo to the trends if they don't suit you, I find the main reason I follow trends is because the scrapbookers I like and follow show me awesome ideas using the new stuff!

I can't make a card, layout, anything without chipboard. And there is a new U.S. company called Blue Fern Studios that makes AMAZING chipboard. Yes, I am designing for them; however, I was getting chipboard from Australia, etc., because there wasn't any intricate chipboard sold here in the U.S. Now there is, and I am utterly hooked! Truly gorgeous stuff, and I can't create without it! I love painting it, leaving it raw, and the other DT members do some AMAZING stuff with it. |

So who gets to decide that it's out of style?
I think following trends to the extent that you stop using something you like, is kind of silly. Why not use it if you love it? Just because a few people are claiming it's no longer in style? Are they people who set the trends or just expressing their opinion?
Sometimes a person gets tired of a trend and stops doing it, but that doesn't mean everyone else has to do the same.
If you like including something on a page, use it. If you don't, there is no need to feel pressured to do so. It's your album. Do it your way. |

Sigh, I still have quite a bit of raw chipboard too (yes to the big alphas!) and have a hard time using it on my l/o's. I failed miserably at trying to cover them w. pp, so the only way I've used any is to paint them. OK, so this is one MORE thing I need to concentrate on this year: using up my cb. Maria

I have some plain chipboard letters and shapes from CTMH. I usually sponge ink on them, but will occasionally cover them with paper. I haven't tried embossing on them. I think I'll do that next.
I don't worry about styles. Nobody's going to look at my albums and say, "She made a layout in 2013 with chipboard??? Doesn't she know how out of style that was by then???" |

I love raw chipboard. I use it all the time. That being said, I don't really pay attention to trends in the papercrafting world. I just use what I like.
One of the things I like to do with my chipboard bits is cover them in paper, ink the edges, and then coat them with Tim Holtz Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint. I'll sometimes ink over the cracks in the paint as well. |

So glad someone knows what I am talking about. The other U.S. companies that have chipboard do not have the intricate designs that Blue Fern Studios offers. It is truly beautiful to work with, and the designers have ALL sorts of techniques for finishing it. They amaze me! I use crackle paint, embossing powders, stickles, acrylic paints, etc., but the other designers, WOW! They use all sorts of things that just make the chipboard look like art. I am learning from my team members for sure. |

I don't know if it is out of style but I still buy it and use it if I see some I like. I could have sworn I saw some chipboard elements in several of the new collections. I have a ton of it in my stash and I plan to keep using it. I don't use it on all my layouts as it does add a lot of bulk but once in a while I like it just to give a bit more depth. |

Oh no, say it ain't so! I can't live without my chipboard! I find adding it to your art adds so much more interest and dimension. And I so enjoy the decorating of the chippie as well. There are so many more unique designs to choose from these days. I recently made some artist trading cards ("ATC" featuring little perfume bottle chipboard pieces (made by Blue Fern Studios in case you're interested in them too), and adding those darling perfume bottle chippies really made the ATC's pop. I posted the artist trading cards here if you're interested in looking at the perfume bottles. |

I would say the opposite about chipboard- I think it's incredibly popular right now! But I suppose it depends on the communities in which you're involved. I love chipboard- I think it's awesome that you can make it coordinate perfectly to whatever you're designing.
I know that sometimes trying to alter the chipboard can be time consuming. One of my favorite techniques is to simply paint them white with a base of gesso, then grab a favorite stamp and ink and stamp designs onto them. Super fast and fun!
As Patter mentioned, the Blue Fern Studios girls are always sharing their techniques! You can check out the blog here: http://bluefernstudios.blogspot.com. There's a new post almost every day with some really great ideas. And if you've already got that raw chipboard laying around, you might as well put it to some good use!
I really enjoyed reading the comments in this thread. Yes, I too would love to know who "decides" when something is "in or out". I say you use whatever you want!
Have fun, girls!

I know, right?! All because I saw a few comments on more than one other thread kind of making reference to it! I was just curious, because, as usual, I didn't get the memo!
Regardless of whether it was considered (by ANY, not ALL, pea-ple ) "out" or "in", I am in no way a sheep who is easily led, and would have continued using up my stash at my own rate. But wow, at the comments, huh? |
