I'm exploring my love to crafting and card making. I may need to leave the country in a couple years and I'm planning on what I need to do with my scrapbook/card making stock.
I'm trying to determine what I basic things I want to keep or toss when that time comes.
I know I will keep all of my clear stamps and ink pad.
Do you guys have any other suggestion on what I need to keep or buy more for my stash??

In addition to stamps and ink pads I would need:

paper trimmer
ATG
glue pen
small detail scissors
tiny tweezers
corner chomper
several edge punches
Tim Holtz ruler
journaling pens (have about 5 or 6 favorites)

That's just my tools and things needed to make my pages. Then there are the actual paper and supplies. Hmmmm... I guess I have more than 10 things!

Leave the clothes and take all the craft stuff with you. All countries sell clothes, not all countries sell scrap stuff.

Must haves:

1. ATG and refills
2. Trimmer
3. Paper pp and whatever basic colors you use most
4. Cameo and electric plug converter
5. Glue dots and Pop dots
6. Stamps
7. Good ink pads and embossing powders
8. Specialized tools - might be hard to find (chomper, punches, heat gun, etc)
9. Fave embellies - twine, veneers, brads, enamel dots, alphas
10. Album and page protectors

Happy and safe travels!

I live abroad (and have to move every couple of years!). In fact, I've got to trim down my (still new!) collection over the next 9 months to move again. This is my list of "in my checked luggage" stuff, while the rest catches up with me by sea. I put everything into ziplock bags, and it all fits in a plastic tupperware container.

* Cardstock and envelopes
* Scissors (big for big and small for fussy cutting)
* Adhesive (Tombow + refills + dimensionals + glue pen)
* Stamps (clear stamps ONLY, no wood mounted + acrylic blocks! mostly sentiments, and a few small themed sets for holidays)
* Small embellishments (ribbon + buttons in favorite colors ONLY)
* Patterned paper (favorites only, pre-cut to 6x6)
* Pens for writing inside cards (favorites only)
* Ink (I have sets of Stampin' Up Spots that don't take any space at all, but you may want to just choose your favorites if all you have are big pads)

And that's it. If I had extra room, I'd throw in my paper cutter, my Wizard and some dies, and more flat embellishments.

Where are you going? How will you be shipping your stuff? I'm SUPER curious about how other people handle moving entire craft rooms between countries.

My go to items include:

.01 and .03 black pen
adhesive (including my Zig 2-way pen)
Paper trimmer, craft knife, and scissors
My manual die cutter (for titles)
Little letter stickers (mini-market, tiny type, etc)
Patterned paper and cardstock, especially lighter colours
Small embellishments (I'm currently loving wood veneers)
My big green self-healing mat
WRMK corner chomper
Black soot distress ink and blending tool

I also love my stamps.

BTW, if you have something like an ATG, you might want to stock up on refills. They are much harder and more expensive to get outside of North America.

Lol.. I agree.. but I'll need some of my clothes too

I can find some scrapbook stuff back at home, but it will be really expensive and less variety compare to here.

I'm might move back to Asia after almost 8 years living here in the US. I'll be really sad when that time comes

I'm not sure how I'll bring my stuff back. I might need to use some kind of shipper that will ship my stuff right into my door step (if I don't ship too much stuff), or I might rent a container (if I end up with a lot of stuff that I can't be apart) and have it ship back. I still have 3-4 years time to stay here, thus I'm trying to start planning. I start scrapbooking and crafting within the last year, and lets just say I LOVE IT!! and I've accumulate quite a bit of supplies. I know that I'll need to sell at least 80% off my stash by that time.

Basic tools in my to-hand basket include:

tape roller
glue dot roller
decoupage scissors
basic inks (distress ink in brown & black)
journaling pens (black & white)
needle
glue stick
foam adhesive
corner rounder punch

If I could take a few extras with me, I would choose:

washi tapes
rhinestones & pearls
decorative pins
wood veneers
select punches (edge & shapes)

And of course, albums, page protectors and if you use a paper trimmer (I don't - use my rotary equipment) would also be a good idea.

A lot of it depends on which country you might be moving to. Speaking as an ex-pat myself and living in an ever changing ex-pat community, I can tell you that availability of items is hugely dependent on where you end up.

Here in Sweden there are scrapbooking shops - they're harder to find but they exist while places like Michaels don't. And it's easy enough to order things online and have them shipped. This is also typically the case for the UK, most of the Nordic countries I've been through and some other countries such as France and Germany. It might be much harder in countries such as Poland, Hungary, etc.

If, however, you end up in the Middle East, you're going to want to take as much with you as possible. I haven't lived there myself but have many friends who have lived mostly in Saudi and also Yemen and the EA. There are virtually no craft places (of any type - sewing, papercrafting, etc.) of any kind and these places are very strict with what they let in for shipping and often take months to release and process packages. Asia can be hit or miss, depending on which country you end up in - Japan and certain areas of China and South Korea can be very progressive in what they offer and shipping but other areas of China and Vietnam are extremely difficult and you need to learn how to 'work the system' AKA bribe the right people (especially Vietnam).

But don't let the uncertainty of what might be available turn you off ex-pat living - it's wonderful! And if all else fails, you can always fill up your suitcase with crafty goodies when you go back to visit home.

Wow you're a planner! I moved to India and since then, have a good idea of what I'd bring and leave if I had to do it again.

I would bring:
ATG
patterned paper
stamps (they're in three 3-ring binders so not too big)
stamp pads (basic colors I use alot)
thickers/letter stickers
albums/extra page protectors
Genesis trimmer
journaling pens (I bought the 48 Zig set)
washi tape, wood vaneers, embellishments that coordinated with my patterned paper
my most used punches

And I look forward to my summer visits in the US so I can fill my suitcase up to bring back.

I brought more than I needed and will purge some before our next move. You can't really buy scrapbook supplies here but between my visit to the US and when my inlaws visit, I can get plenty of supplies. When my inlaws visit, I buy 2 or 3 plastic art bin containers and have them delivered to their house. Then when a 2peas box arrives at their house, they put the supplies in the plastic containers. That way, the stuff arrives without damage.

HTH!

Sounds like you've gotten the right responses so I'll just say that I could scrap forever with my Silhouette Cameo, cardstock, a glue runner and my trimmer. But I sure would love patterned paper. Even if it were just my scraps. To me, the patterned paper is what makes scrapping fun.

Paper trimmer
Basic hole punch
Clear scrapbooking glue (or some kind of adhesives that work for both flat and small lumpy embellishments)
Pop dots (because the glue just doesn't hold everything, or you need some dimension)
Package of white cardstock (I would actually need several for one year)
Set of markers
Two more inkpads - I would have to have a black, a brown, a Versamark
Clear embossing powder
Heat gun
My little "jewelry box" filled with embellishments (right now has buttons and flowers)
