I am a new mom with a beautiful 6 wk old daughter and I am extremely sleep deprived and seriously lacking creativity right now. I'm afraid I'm missing out on some photo opportunities that I have forgotten about. does anyone have any suggestions of certain things I may want a picture of that I might not have thought of?
I'm taking pictures of my favorite outfits, monthly milestones, any firsts I can think of ( bath, outings, first time meeting certain family members, etc) funny faces that she makes.
Im sure Im missing other stuff Im going to wish I had captured. I plan to get a photo of her with her dr and of the clinic. And one of her with the dr who delivered her since we missed that during delivery.
Any suggestions would be helpful!! Thanks in advance! |

Close ups of just my son's hands and feet. I made ink images and scanned them for gifts that I gave to the family, but the pictures would have been a wonderful remembrance. I did have portraits made every month for the first yr. It was a challenge because we get a lot of bad weather here, but I'm glad I did it: I even had him take pictures with his grandparents, his uncles, and cousins on some of them. Now, they are wonderful memories. Its amazing how quickly a baby changes in the first yr and the portraits really captured this. Good luck. |

My grandmothers were still alive when my boys were born, and I wish I had had someone take four generations photos... I took pictures of my grandmothers with the boys, and pictures of my mother and father with the boys, but I wish I had photos of all four generations together.
A multi-generational hands photo would be lovely to have, as well. When I see those lovely photos of a grandmother's hand with an infant's hand, I get teary. | |

Great question! I was just saying to my high school senior yesterday that I wish Pinterest existed when she was small because she would have had a different childhood! I see all these ideas of things I'd love to do and then I realize wait, no, my kids are grown up ... sigh.
I can't think of any specific pictures off the top of my head, but I know now, looking through my photos, that although at the time I was told, "Why are you taking SO MANY pictures??!" that now I wish I had taken many, many more.
My kids were born before digital photography so admittedly, I had to get film developed and yes, that added up. With digital pics you can taken 1 or you can take 1000 and it doesn't have to cost you anything.
Take my advice and take more! When those moments are gone and you are looking back and wishing you had just one more or one just a little better ... you'll thank me. LOL
Ditto for video. I would kill to have video of my babies giggling, walking those first timid steps, calling me Mama or Mommy, or sitting with their grandparents. But we couldn't afford a video camera and only borrowed one for very special occasions. Take lots of video too!
Also, take my advice and use the best camera you can possibly afford -- NOT a camera phone! | |

My DD was a chunky baby. I wish I had gotten a closeup of the rolls on her thighs.
Ok, maybe that's just mean. But they were so cute!

I took close up pics of my boy's toes, nose, belly button, fingers, ears, etc. and made a collage of all their cute lil baby parts. I'm due in a month with #3 and can't wait for all those sweet lil baby pics again. Also pics with all important people, snuggly pics with daddy and you (I did some silhouette pics with DH and #2 in front of our window that I just love). Look up lifestyle newborn pics on Pinterest for tons of inspiration. |

This will sound funny, but I wish I had a photo of my ds when he was really upset and crying.  He used to scrunch up his whole face and we called it his "Mr Magoo" face. I never once thought to take a photo of it.
He turned 16 years old, today. Goodness knows, he doesn't make that face, anymore. LOL!

I also wish I had more video of my babies eating baby foods or Cheerios. Getting ready to walk or just crawling. Still photos just don't quite capture those moments. |

Exactly what Cricut Girl said....pictures and close ups of their little hands and feet! I regret not having any of those. But, at that time, we didn't have digital cameras and I really didn't start scrapping until after my last one was born. |

I would love to have a series of pics that show proportion/size better than the ones I have of my kids who are now teens. Maybe take pics in the same chair or next to the same stuffed animal on a regular basis. Another thought. . . we have a wall in our basement that we marked with their growth every six months or so. I really wish I had thought to take a picture of them each time we were marking the wall.

I am sure it will be fine. I'm a Grandma to a 2-year-old and a 5-month-old,, and there isn't a way I could scrap the thousands of photos my DSD has taken of those kids. So, I've just let my heart decide. |

I am another one that wishes I had pictures of little hands and feet. I am thinking I might be able to go back and zoom in on a picture to get those, maybe.
I also saw a cute idea that Becky Higgins did with her little boy that I wish I could have done. I didn't start scrapping until mine were 9 years old. She took a picture each month of her little boy with big stuffed puppy starting with when he was born. It showed how much he had grown by the time he was 1 year old. She had all of these photos on 1 layout. Enjoy your little one. |

Thank you so much for all the wonderful ideas!!! I don't believe there's any such thing as too many pictures! I plan to take a lot of PL photos as well.
* her new formula since she was allergic to her first 1
* her numerous bottles
* her gumdrop paci ( it is the only kind she will take )
* piles of baby laundry
* the diaper changing station
* her fascination with balloons
I got some great photos last night of her watching Hotel Transylvania with a really concerned look on her face  it was too cute!!
Any more ideas for PL baby photos? |

Sylvie: I already have a few pictures of her throwing a fit. My favorite by far was of her in her new Easter dress when I was trying it on her. I love my camera phone because I am more likely to catch candid photos with it.

I really regret not getting a photo of me nursing my older daughter. Still need to get one with the baby. It was such a big part of the early months that I'd like a photo just for myself. |

My son is 23 so it's been a long time since he was a baby but I wish I'd gotten more photos of him and me together.
I took a ton of baby photos of him, used the stuffed kangaroo his aunt sent him from Australia for monthly photo shoots, lots of photos of him with his 4 grandparents and even his great grandmother, but there aren't very many of the two of us together. I hate being in front of the camera, but it's important to capture you with your baby too!
Also, while your camera phone is quick and handy I would advise you to not rely on it alone for all of your baby's photos. Camera phone photos look great on your phone and online, but once printed you can see a difference between them and a point and shoot camera, and especially a DSLR.

One of my favorite photos of my DD happened by accident. We were taking a picture of her and my DH's hand and her little hand wrapped in his was in it. It was just adorable seeing her smiling up at him and seeing her hand size back then. Love the little gummy smiles they have too before they have teeth. All the pictures you take will be wonderful keepsakes. It is great to be able to see little feet and hands in photos and how they grow. | |

I have a 9.5 month old, so it's still all super fresh for me- although you forget some stuff so quickly! I'd say, if they start making an expression or doing something frequently, try to get a picture or write it down- they change so fast! Definitely the hands and feet pictures- I try to get my hands in frame too for a size comparison. I'm obsessed with baby hand pictures though!  And I do set ourselves a regular target of a picture every month on her birthdate with a gerbera to show how she's growing- that's a cool series, and I'm looking forward to displaying them on her birthday. Various grumpy pictures along the way can really help with coping with the frustration, because taking them makes it funny instead of stressful. And you laugh later on to look back and see them! Finally, use tummy time as a good time to take pictures- early tummytime pictures are adorable, and it is a reason to actually remember to *do* tummy time.
Got to say though, do cut yourself some slack- that sleep deprivation is brutal, and you won't realise just how brutal until you start coming out of it (in my case, only just coming out of it now, but I was not blessed with a great sleeper. ) If you remember to get the camera out and take a picture (or a few) every day or two, you'll find you're getting the pictures you want later on. Even just make a target of getting pictures of favourite outfits will help- as she starts to get more mobile you'll have pictures of her doing new things because she won't just lie still for you to take a picture of that outfit! Also you will start to get bored with the same pose before long and start looking for new ones without it being stressful.
Congratulations on your new baby, and I hope the sleep deprivation eases up for you soon!

You should check out some of the photography boards on Pinterest. There's always lots of ideas for baby and small child photos. I can hardly wait for my next grandchild so I can try out some of those really cute sweet shots. | |

Thanks for all the wonderful advice. No children yet for me, but we are trying I want to take lots of photos and before the baby is born I would like to get a non-expensive video camera to get some of those sweet things on video | |

I took way too many photos of my babies in costumes (yes I ordered weird baby costumes on the internet and dressed my babies up in elephant, flower, and giraffe costumes - maybe I had sleep deprived mommy brain too!)
What I wish I got more of? Regular moments photos with me and my babies in them doing regular stuff - like changing diapers, feeding, baths, snuggling, playing etc.
I also wish I wrote more stuff down. |

Sadly film was an expensive luxery when my kids were little so ANY pictures would be nice lol--
I can tell you that my grand daughter turns one this month and my dd and her hubby text me a picture every day. These are not stagged but every day pictures... Toast in her hair, her pulling the dogs tail, sleeping in the high chair--- totally random everyday REAL moments. I think if you pull your camera out at least once a day and take a picture you will be happy later.
and yes those hands and feet photos with and without yours and dads will be cherished. |

My little one just turned 3 last month. And although I have to admit, I have not scrapped any of her photos yet. I did a 365 days of Emma photos. And I definitely did NOT take only one photo a day!  But I feel happy knowing that I have them, for when I do get a chance to scrap them. I also did PL that year as well (haven't actually put the album together, but I have all the photos and journaling in notebooks for when I have time
I also did the monthly studio portraits as well. So we're not lacking in photos. But I did forget to stamp her foot and hand prints when she was a newborn. I did clay hand prints when she was 16 months though and I love it.
If you have pets, take photos of them with her. Our 7lbs cat looked so huge next to her (she was only 5lbs).
I also did the monthly stuffed animal pictures too. I even took a picture of her with the bunny at her 3yr birthday. She's getting so big already and she's JUST 3. 
I didn't read through all the comments yet, but hopefully I didn't repeat everything.
Just try to relax and enjoy your little one now.

I don't know if this is weird, but I took pictures of new diapers whenever we changed to the next size up. So you can see the diaper size difference side by side. It's sad to see them now bec she was so small back then. But it's nice to see that growth. | |
