I am a little over a year behind in printing - I know it's awful and I used to be very anal about it every month.

How would you go about choosing the ones to print? I don't know if I want to take the time to crop/edit/size thousands of pics. I sure don't want to print every single one either.

Its such a daunting task since I'm so behind - maybe I should tackle one month at a time? Ugh I really need to get it done and stay caught up!

Any suggestions? How do you keep up with your pics?

I am behind on printing too. My last photo order was over 400 photos, but I did have a coupon code. I think it would be easier to do it by the month, instead of too much at once. It is overwhelming when the order comes to your house too.

I print as I scrap. I create pages kits, with photos, paper, embellies and a sketch and i make 10-15 kits at a time. When I do this i precrop all my photos (as determined by the chosen sketch) in PSE all at one time and then send them to be printed at Costco. This way it takes me a long time before I need to do it all over again. This is the only backlog of preprinted photos that I have. I like it because I follow sketches pretty literally, which makes scrapping faster for me. By printing my photos as I need them I can make them the exact size/orientation needed instead of trying to find a sketch/photo placement that fits with what I already have printed.

I take it a month at a time until I'm caught up. I like to go through and delete stuff I don't want to keep first, then do a star rating on my photos (which helps me decide which I'm going to print and which I can ignore). After that I can pull photos for print. If I have a big event in there somewhere, I tend to pull those photos into a separate folder and work on them as a group on their own.

I don't really like getting behind. Dealing with the choosing/editing/printing of photos can be daunting. I prefer to do it in small chunks.

I do not enjoy that process, either, and I have never allowed myself to get that far behind, because if I did, I would not have anything to sb and that would not work for me.
When I start to edit and I really am dreading it, I tell myself, "I will work on this 15 minutes". I usually work longer that that, but giving myself permission to quit at a certain time seems to get me started.

I am just now getting photos prints as I have started scrapbooking so I am SIX years behind. Even worse, every camera seems to take a different size picture.

I go through and use Picasa to quickly view a whole folder of photos (I import them so each day has its own folder). Then I delete the truly out of focus or bad shots. I do this when I upload now but my past stuff is totally unedited. The ones I want to print I open in PSE. The crop tool will let you designate size and resolution, so I use that to quickly crop.

I do this for 15-30 mins at a time and save into a "to print" folder. When that has a good stack of pics I order from Costco or Shutterfly.

I think the key is bite sized chunks and a plan for what to so with the pictures when you get them back.

I am way behind, and yes, I do go for the "one month at a time" method.

I am working on a PL style album for this year. I printed nothing last year.

So in between working on this year's album & pics, I look through, edit, and upload last year's as well. I have Jan. & Feb. of 2012 uploaded.

Now that we are in March, I'll work on March 2012 as well.

It won't catch me up, but with 2 kids, this is as much as I can really do, so it's enough for now.

Best of luck!

I also print as I go, but I have the luxury of a photo printer. Generally though, I won't know what I will feel like scrapbooking until I actually work on the page. I like being able to make decisions there and then about what photos I want to use. Sure, it can be a bit expensive to print at home, but I only print what I need.

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and start working on it - I agree one month at a time should make it more manageable.

I swear when I do get caught up with my printing I will never let myself get this far behind again!

Ugh....someone want to do this for me???

For 2013 I am dedicating all of my layouts to 4x6 photos (except for mini albums). I just got 305 photos printed at Snapfish for $13 with an excellent coupon code. I didn't crop them or edit them. My mission this year is to stop fretting over the perfect photo and focus on telling the story behind the not so perfect photo. I did buy a Fuji Instax Camera for my mini albums. With my 2013 plan of only 4x6 photos, I've already gotten 26 layouts completed and have a two pager on my work space now.
