I bought a Craft Robo awhile back. I was wondering if I still need a Cameo? Can the Craft Robo be updated with the Silhouette software?
TIA! | |

You can use the craft robo with the silhouette software.
I use it with my old blue wishblade also.
Just choose the correct mat size.

@rentina
You're welcome!
FYI, it will still say it's 'cutting to a silhouette'
Remember to start looking at the free shape they post in the silhouette store every week (Tuesdays, I think).
And, also get the 50 free files in the silhouette store.
ETA: you can sign in to the online store and start collecting the shapes or go ahead and download the software and access the store via the software.

I don't...I have mulitple cricuts I really like with tons of cartridges and I don't use them nearly enough...but I never did get an Imagine and I always wanted to print and cut, so when there was a good Cameo deal I bought it. I figure even if I only use it for the print and cut feature it still will be a useful tool. |

Is the silhouette software similar to scal?
Yes, and a tiny bit of No.
Yes, in that it allows you to cut fonts, and shapes.
The No part of that depends on if you have SCAL or SCAL2, and if you are using the free silhouette software or the designer edition.
The free silhouette software does not have an advanced trace and cut feature, nor does it allow you to cut svgs.
The silhouette designer edtion software does allow you to cut svgs (edited... My apologies for getting software info a bit muddled after a long day)
FYI, SCAL3 works with the cameo and the protrait.
Also, SCAL3 is a free download to those who already had SCAL2.

The free silhouette software allows you to trace and cut out an image, but you have to do some configuring with the image. I have also brought in .jpg's and traced them to draw an image or to perform a print and cut. You won't be able to do .svg files, the enhanced trace features (drawings in different styles), extra knife cut additions, etc.
You need a Cameo, I use it on every layout that I do, whether it's doing a print N cut of a bought image from the store, my own, or an image traced from the world wide web, drawings, cut outs, and making vinyl car decals.

Wow! Lots of information here. To tell you the truth, I barely touched my Craft Robo when I got it. I need to take it out and learn how to use it.

I would not want to craft without my Cameo. It's my favorite scrappy thing I've ever owned.

I have a wishblade that I haven't really used in years. Is there a difference in functions when using the silhouette software with the wishblade instead of the cameo? |

I didn't think I needed one. Then, my husband decided to gift me a Cameo for our anniversary and I have no idea how I went this long without one!
So, actually need? I suppose not but, it's really, super, incredibly amazing so... |
