I was h*ll bent on catching up and I finally did it but now I have not a single picture to scrapbook. I don't have pictures from my childhood (Mom wasn't a fan of the camera) and I started scrapbooking when my oldest was an infant and I already re-did his baby album a few years back.
I'm going to start project life on my birthday so what do I do in the mean time? We'll have several activities and events of course but nothing like doing a layout a day.
What do you do if you have nothing to scrapbook or just can't scrap (besides shop ) |

There are times I scrap without photos. I get my layouts done and place mats where photos will go. I make sure the adhesive on my embellishments do not touch the mat until I adhere/complete the layout with pics later. |

-An album about your town
-your favorites (books, food, etc...)
-future home projects
-heritage album (random layouts of grandparents, aunts, and uncles you may have pictures of)
-childhood memories album. Get pictures from google of childhood toys, schools you attended, vacation spots or anything you can think of. Reuse the few picture you do have of yourself and use them in different ways (a page of what you wanted to be, the clothes you liked to wear, what activities you did at that age).

have you created an album about you? over the years I have seen some beautiful layouts people have done about themselves. Scrappers often make layouts about family and children but never about themselves. I t can be about you as a child<with n pic), or as a teenager. Something that you would like to share, or anything else. |

I caught up once, and it drove me crazy! Every time I took photos, I would hurry to print them so that I could scrap them.
I don't know if this will work for you, but I ended up taking a year off of actual scrapping, so that my photos could build up again. I made cards and other paper crafts, I just didn't do photo lo's.
Maybe you could make cards until you start your PL? |

Maybe you could flip through your albums and see if there are any gaps in the storytelling. For example, did your son receive a toy for a particular birthday and it has become a treasured possession that he takes everywhere? Are there relationship stories that can be explained more fully? It's okay to use the same photo on more than one layout.
A different idea:
Here is a website that gives a different prompt for a list every week. There are some great scrapbooking ideas in it.

I cannot imagine running out of photos to scrap! I have all my parents pictures as they were dating, all my grandparents and my mom and dad as children ,plus all my kids and grandkids that I cant keep up with the scrapping of the pics. I take tons of photos but not enough time to scrap them ...plus ,Im fairly slow. I like the suggestion of making cards. You can donate them if you dont want to use them yourself. |

I see you have six kids. How old are they now? Maybe you need to take more photos!
My 3 dd are 19, 21, and 23, and no longer at home, but I still find the photos keep coming. Now with the internet they email photos and I send the ones I want printed to Costco. I have trained them to snap a few photos whenever they go somewhere- sports events, parties, dinner out, hanging with friends, etc.
(Although if you have already done 131 layouts in 2013, that is pretty impressive. I had all weekend to scrap and I only got about 8 pages done. Your are an inspiration with how many pages you have completed!) |

I understand. My only child is 18. He's not a big picture fan anymore. I started scrapping when I was pregnant. I have redone his first five years already. I am planning on taking photos every day this week just to see what I will capture. |

There are lots of fun projects I would do if I didn't have so many photos that I want to get scrapped.
But I didn't start till my fifth child was three years old. I'd been married 20 years. My parents took lots of photos when I was a child. And after I started scrapping, I began taking more pictures. My kids are kind of spread far apart. I became a grandmother only five years after I started scrapping, which meant even more pictures. Now I have 8 grandkids and one more on the way.
I will probably never be caught up.
But if I were, there are so many fun projects to do that I would love to try. I would sign up for Laura's projects a lot (Following the Paper Trail). She has such awesome projects! I would come up with my own projects. I used to teach at the LSS, and it was a lot of fun, and I created my own unique projects for the classes. Sometimes it was even profitable. But it was hard to get my own scrapping done because I was so busy teaching classes. It took a lot of time.
There's so much I could do if I were completely caught up on scrapping my pictures. |

I love all the ideas but doing an album about me and childhood using google images is fantastic!! |

I'm going to start project life on my birthday so what do I do in the mean time?
I was thinking of doing the same thing.
I also occasionally make premade pages, not because I have no photos but because I have bits and pieces of a kit left and don't want to figure out how to put it away, what to do with scraps, etc. It's kinda fun...give it a try. You could also make a gift album this way; or an album to donate to a school or church auction.

Wow...that is amazing! I can't imagine ever being caught up! Of course, I know it isn't so nice when you want to have things to scrap. I always have projects that I wish I had time to get around to, so that is what I would focus on for now....picture organizing/editing, organizing supplies, gift items, cards, classes/workshops...

PL will keep you busy. Do you do everyday moment type layouts or just events? I also say focus on yourself. Most times we leave ourselves out. Kerri Bradford has a great class about getting your story told and Cathy Z had a class at BPC that was called ME: The Abriged Version. I also love making mini books that show photos from similar events or seasons through the years. Or mini albums for vacations, etc. |

How about digging into genealogy? I was able to find relatives from our families. I even found a photo online of DH's Great, Great, Great Grandfather.
Because of my research, we had the first family reunion in 35 years. We invited my Mom's extended family because she hadn't seen them in 49 years.
Why not try genealogy? |
Cheers from Southeast Sunny Florida!

You people are weird. How can you be caught up? I have at least half of 2010 left to scrap, nearly all of 2011 and 2012 and let's not even talk about 2013.
I'd say its time to schedule a vacation if you are all caught up. Or visit a favorite park or museum and take lots of photos.

I would never have that problem, but I have been known to reprint photos I've already scrapped. In my case because what I want to do in the way of scrapping would work better with the photo(s) I've already scrapped than the bazillion I haven't. |

I have very, very few childhood photos. Try doing some pages without photos or take photos of things that remind you of your childhood.
Also look at some of the Project Life pages in the gallery for ideas on things you can capture about your everyday that might need a page all their own.
You can even photo your finished albums and scrapbook about that. If you can tell a story about it, you can scrapbook it. |

Have you already scrapped vacation albums?
If I ever get caught up (which I don't think I ever will) I would scrap family vacation albums. Right now I just scrap several pages for each vacation in each of my kids albums. It would be nice to scrap the whole vacation.

Even without photos - I would absolutely scrap stories about your childhood! I've been working on our family genealogy and I would give my right arm to hear/read some special story memories from my Grand parents and great grandparents lives! It's those stories that makes history come to life - and while right now it doesn't feel that important, one day your descendants will be so glad you gave them that priceless-to-them gift!
It's not just our kids' childhoods that are important to document, it's our own too!

There are some good ideas in this thread, thanks everyone!
I have two suggestions. based on non-photo related projects on my own to-do list:
--Do you need a recipe or household binder? My sister bought me a recipe binder kit for Christmas, and I want to put it together with some other items in my stash.
--Not an artsy project, but sort of related: Could you spend the time organizing your pictures - all the electronic files and folders, scan old pics, come up with a good storage solution that works for you? It might even remind you of some new projects you'd like to do. |

Have you tried doing any of the photography challenges (a photo a day, P52, 12 on the 12th). These often produce great photos for layouts. There are prompts to use for photo taking. I personally love doing everyday layouts, so these pictures are great. |

Wow - lucky you!
These ideas jumped into my head:
1. Make cards. Always great to have a variety of cards on hand.
2. Go through your albums and look for gaps in the stories you can tell.
3. Relating to the above suggestion, take a class. I can highly recommend Shimelle's Cover to Cover class, which will help with finding those story gaps, among many other helpful tips and advice.

Now every time it looks like that might happen, I pick up a book instead of patterned paper for a few weeks.

If it was me (which it won't ever be) I would flip through my albums and see if there are any stories that haven't been told. (I think some people have mentioned similar things already) I think because we scrap the photos we have sometimes we miss out on some of the stories that haven't been captured on film. Like things your kids say and their favourite things.
And I think it's important to scrap about yourself too. Perhaps you could make a layout about WHY you scrap. That would be pretty cool for your kids to look back on in time. |

One thing I love to do is take photos from different time periods that tell a story that might not otherwise be told. A characteristic, a passion, a relationship, something that has been developed over time, how things have changed, or how things have stayed the same. |

You could reorganize your scrap space, pre-make embellies (if you do that--I can't seem to, since I decide what I want as I work), test out techniques you've been wanting to try (I look back through my bookmarked posts here!), or make mini albums that will be ready for pics when you get some, based on something you know you'll take photos of.
I got "caught up" once, & I didn't like it! |

Just to update:
I couldn't get into childhood stories, I don't know why. I ended up creating a scrapbook about my husband myself! I'm loving it and also included some of my husband's journalling.
I am planning to do a detailed about me layout later this week instead of a childhood album. And it was asked, I scrapbook everyday moments and pictures. This week the pictures I have are my daughter sleeping, my son wearing a tutu/kilt, a birthday, orchestra and a picture of my cat. I've done all of our vacation layouts, I put them all in the same album.
These are all fantastic ideas but I'm most looking forward to is project life but a class sounds wonderful too, as does the photo challenges!

There are some great ideas on this thread! I have imagined being caught up so many times since I started scrapping, even though I'm sure it will never happen. I would do these things pre-make embellies (if you do that--I can't seem to, since I decide what I want as I work), test out techniques you've been wanting to try (I look back through my bookmarked posts here!), or make mini albums that will be ready for pics when you get some, based on something you know you'll take photos of.
I feel like if I "caught up" it would give me permission to just play with paper and product and try new things (I know I could do that now, but I like to feel productive and get a lot done in my limited scrapping time). And I know I would do more "then and now" and transitions layouts, retrospective layouts about events/subjects I've already scrapped and how my thoughts of them have changed, more "about me" pages that include things like likes, dislikes, beliefs/values, current thoughts on life, etc. It's interesting to see how those things change over time. You could scan yearbook photos if you have your high school yearbooks, and scrap about them. Or flip through them and see if they spark any memories that you could turn into stories for your scrapbooks.
I also have not scrapped my childhood, so I would do that as well. I have started a scanning project with my grandparents' photos, so I would scrap some of them (my one Grandma was SO stylish - I would wear some of her 60s clothes now!) I would also like to scrap my parents' story of how they met, their wedding, etc. If you have heritage photos, I think they could be really interesting to add to your scrapbooks. |
