I wasn't too interested in the paper feather trend until I saw some great layouts,so now I want to make a few feathers. Are there any free printable patterns out there,or do you just freehand them? Also,do you use thin wire? Anything else I should know?

Thanks,
JamieH

I make my own.
I just freehand the patterns. I googled feather images and then used them as a visual guide as I cut.

I put thin wire down the centre of some of mine. I've also used pipecleaners and bamboo skewers.

Have fun!!

Biochemipea,
Wow,girl! I figured out who you are and checked out your blog, and you have some awesome feathers! What size do you usually make, and do you use two pieces of paper or just one? Anything else I should know?

Thanks,
JamieH

Jamie, that is really sweet of you.

I use two pieces of paper about half of the time, and just one about the other half. It really just depends on what paper I'm using and how easy it is to adhere to the wire or central shaft.

Basically:
- if I'm using wire, two pieces of paper with liquid adhesive in between
- if it's sticky (like washi tape), two pieces stuck back-to-back
- if there is no shaft, just one piece of paper.

HTH!

You could also make them out of washi tape - check out this tutorial.

I've made paper, vellum and washi tape feathers, but those washi ones are the coolest...and so easy. It's addictive too. I must have made a dozen or more of them with all sorts of different tapes, my favorite with the Glitz rainbow colored chevron tape! Seriously fun!

I haven't, but plan to. My daughter goes to this camp every summer, and they use indian names for the different age groups, so I'm thinking feathers for those pages will be perfect. I'm glad you asked this so I could check out the replies you get for ideas.

I Make them all the time. We just finished a swap and I am putting a tutorial up next weekend. Julie Fan Balzer has a great tutorial on her blog where she makes them from the deli paper.

I used a real feather today on one of my layouts! But those Washi ones are really tempting...
