...I'd like to get a black cutting mat that's 48x36. Anyone have some good recommendations?

Got mine at M's in the sewing section black on one side and green on other side. Great price after using a 40% off coupon.

None of my mats are black so I don't know how helpful this is..
-I have the very large (24x36) Martha Stewart Cutting Mat that fold in 3 for storage. I love it, the only issue I have is that one of the edges is a bit doesn't lay completely flat on the table. It is a grey color, and one side is a grid with measurements and the other side is a plaid like pattern
-My mom has a giant mat (probably 36x48?)that is a made for quilting (as the previous poster suggested)and it is great! It is dark green.

Both of these were purchased at M's with a coupon

I have an excellent mat by Prima. It's turquoise on one side and black on the other. As far as the size, I think it's 24x36 and fits nicely on my desk. As far as a larger one, I think you'd have to shop in the quilting/sewing section.
Gingher makes a beautiful large black mat that's pretty large, but pricey even with a I've seen it at I have a huge Olfa mat from when I was quilting regularly but it's green.

I know this isn't what you asked for but I wanted to mention it. I got a glass top made for my scrapping table. I LOVE it! I no longer need a cutting mat, it's the best!

Thanks for the ideas. Actually, I hadn't thought of glass, but that's a good idea!

Michaels has large cutting mats in the quilting section.
Wal-Mart might even have some in their sewing section as well.
Can you tell I don't have many options where I live??

Just keep in mind that blades will blunt faster on glass, but it is an excellent cutting surface. I was considering getting a piece for detail cutting.

mats - the self healing ones are great! I bought mine years ago (like 9 yrs) and they're still in fab condition
