I owned a Cricut a few years ago. I made the mistake of purchasing it when I first got into scrapbooking and hadn't quite established my style. After realizing that I just wasn't using it - I sold it. A few months later I bought a cameo and I LOVE it! Especially for cutting titles.

My style, however, has taken another turn. I've come to find out that instead of following the latest trends - I am happier when I scrap in a more simplistic manner. Usually with cute little die cuts! Die cutting makes me a happy girl. It takes me back to a time of playing with paper dolls as a child.

While my Silhouette Cameo has come in handy with my past few layouts - I feel it does lack in the cute/themey die cuts. With that being said...I truly miss my Cricut! I'm seriously considering buying another.

So let's discuss!

- Do you own a Cricut? Do you love it?
- Silhouette Cameo owners - do you also own a Cricut? If so...do you use them both equally?
- Have you ever gotten rid of a scrapbooking tool and regretted it?
- Any thing else to add?

Oh No!

Do a search for Kate's Cuttables. They are very cutesey. Probably exactly what you want.

I still have my original cricut, but the Cameo is the workhorse. If it weren't for the ridiculous amount of money I have sunk in the cricut & accessories, it would be gone.

As you can see in my signature, I am a Cameo fan. I think there are tons of cutesy cut files you can use with your Cameo. Kate's cuttables are now in the Sil store, and they are super-cutesy themed.
The main reason i sold my Cricut stuff was it was too cutesy for me. Still is, but I just bought a used Cricut baby bug from a friend for $25. The only reason is I want to get the CTMH carts that coordinate with their stamps. I will buy 2 carts, and those will be the only 2. I never thought I'd be doing even that, but it'a small investment for the machine, and it definitely won't "live" on my table with my Cameo. I'll pop it out when i use those 2 carts. (The only downside is the carts aren't cheap! )

I completely understand having a die cut machine that does not fulfill your current style. I got rid of my cricut for that reason. However, if you are looking for a more cutesy style for your cameo, try Lettering Delights also. They have many cuts that are comparable to the cricut ones for a lot less than the price of a cartridge. I just left there to make sure I had the name right and found 3 fonts I want.

@Donna - That was the main reason I got rid of my cricut as well! The cartridges are SO expensive. Not to mention...I didn't have a gypsy so the entire process of actually cutting out something was annoying (to say the least). I think you guys have talked me out of cheating on my Silhouette Cameo!

@Mom2to - Ah! Wow, these are adorable as well. Between these two websites - they have exactly what I've been looking for. The peas never cease to amaze me! Thank you!

I love my circuit! I never pay full price for a cart. I own the gypsy so finding things to cut is easy and quick. I thought of the cameo but I have all the fonts I need and all the images I want

I have both machines and I have never thought about getting rid of my Cricut because I use it a lot. I like just jumping on and creating, I can't do that with my Cameo unless I save images to an external drive. I like both machines images. Why don't you buy one since the prices are lowered for the Cricut right now at www.cricutmachines.com and www.cricut.com. Good luck with your decision.

I have a cricut and I love it, but I would sell it in a heartbeat if it meant I could have a silhouette.

I do have a cricut and a cameo. I love the cameo WAY more than the cricut. The thought of having to get a cartridge out to cut anything now seems like too much work when I can just grab my computer (that I am usually on anyway) and cut whatever I want. I agree with the earlier post about Miss Kate Cuttables. I own LOTS of her stuff and LOVE LOVE LOVE them for the cuteness and my kids. Also if you google Paper Piecing my Nikki and Designs on Cloud 9 you will find more cute stuff to cut too. HTH.

I upgraded to the cricut expression 2 and love it! It is a much better machine than my expression and baby bug were... The touchscreen makes things so much easier - no surprises!

I do have both. I've had Cricut machines since they first came out almost 7 years ago. I've had the Silhouette machines for 3 1/2 years.
I'm coming to love my Cameo a lot more. The other day I tried to cut a circle on my Cricut. It was so not a circle!
I tried playing around in the Craft Room software for the Expression 2 and I had such a bad time with it, seems there are just too many glitches. What would have taken me minutes with the Cameo took me an hour to cut.
The Cameo also cuts smoother and draws better.
I can't get rid of my Cricut, I do get out some of my cuter carts from time to time. But the Cameo is not lacking on cuteness! Have you ever looked at Lettering Delights?? Super cute stuff there for the Cameo!
If you want some ideas of what I do with the Cameo I have hundreds on my blog, lots of them cutesie lol! my blog

I like it because it's so easy and convenient.
I don't have another cutter but I have 3rd party software to use with it and I"m more likely to look on a cartridge first. I use the software for things I don't have a cartridge for (usually something I wouldn't be able to find on a catridge anyway).

I'm actually planning to sell my Cricut and all my cartridges at an upcoming scrapbook yardsale. I thought I would love it, but I rarely use it for scrapbooking. It's been used most for school projects for my kids.

I love my Cricut!! i have an Imagine and it is a treasure to me. Yes, i have gotten rid of stuff and then regretted it - an eyelet setter that worked more reliably than my cropadile and I could use it anywhere on the page. Also some card making supplies that i kick myself about letting go all the time. So of course this makes it even harder to let go of stuff which is a problem already. I don't have a cameo but I know those who do *love* theirs. I get the cute die cut thing. Sometimes it fits better with the family pics - those scrapbook pages that aren't trendy - just down home honest. My family isn't really edgy - more goofy so the newest trends sort of clash you know. )

I love my little Cricut Create. I don't have kids nor do I like cutesy, so I use my Cricut almost exclusively for titles, or sometimes a shape or two. I honestly do not want to use my computer for cutting so the Cricut suits me fine.

After doing Project Life in 2009, I purchased an Amber kit a couple years later. Last summer I was sure I'd never do PL again, so I sold the entire kit, with album, for $20 at my lss flea market. Recently I read comments about using the PL concept for scrapping lots of older pictures or themes like Disney or Christmas, and a lightbulb went off. Oops, sorry I sold the kit! So I bought Jade on HSN. For much more than $20.

I love, love, love my Cricut - I have the baby cricut that I purchased the week that the cricut was first released and it still works like a charm. I really like that I don't have to connected to a computer to use it (one of the reasons I was drawn to it) but I do have the option to use it with the computer if desired (with CCR). I know you can do a lot with a cameo and don't need cartridges but just don't ever see giving up my cricut.

I have a Cricut and Silhouette and use them both. I like the Silhouette for trendy stuff and Cricut for titles and die cuts I already own. I like having both.

I sold my Cricut and bought the Portrait and love it. I seldom used my Cricut, hated the price of the carts, and hated having to use multiple carts for some layouts. I LOVE my portrait and the ease of creating what I want easily

Another vote for Miss Kate's Cuttables!!! I have bought layout kits from her other company, Out on a Limb for years. She now has a ton of her kits available as cuts on Miss Kate's and in my opinion very reasonably priced! Love, love, love them!

If you want to look in my gallery I use a lot of files. All of mine are from Little Scraps of Heaven. There are so many adorable files yo can use with your Cameo. Most of the paper pieces I know have went with the Cameo, now. We have a free file each week that you can find on our fb. You could download that and try that out before you purchase any.

I had both a cricut and a cameo. Just got rid of my cricut and I don't regret it at all! I love my cameo. I love the variety of images in the store.
trying to think of a tool I've gotten rid of and regretted. Can't think of one, although I'm sure there is! I did a major purge a few years ago, getting rid of most of my stuff. Then I decided I was going to start scrapping again, and had to buy it all over again! I had built up quite a collection from when I started scrapping in 2000, so I'm sure I had some old school tool that I'd love to have now!

So I have a question...I have a Cricut Expression and am good with having it but I would like a Silhouette as well. I just don't understand how the Silhouette works...can you purchase ANY SVG file to use with it?

Laura if you purchase the Silhouette Designers Edition software you can use any SVG you can find with it! The software is under $50 and is usually on sale somewhere!~

Thank you Amy. The sites mentioned on this thread, are they places to get cameo downloads or can you only get them at Silhouette store (unless you have the DS you mentioned)?
