I am going to include some newspaper clippings to my PL. Is anyone else?
I did the same with the Olympics and the presidential election.

I took a picture of the flag at my kid's school at half-staff and I will journal a bit, but nothing more graphic than that.

Yes. I took a photo of the TV after it happened. Also printed a photo off the internet of Red Sox fans holding up signs at their game saying Boston Strong and B Strong. We are Red Sox fans so thats an image that is meaningful to our family. I think I'll tuck away some longer journaling as well.

I am including it. I took some screen shots of the on-line newspaper

Yes, I often include local, national and international news in my PL.

I am. I found a photo on the Internet that I decided to include and took a photo of the flags at half-staff and will include journalng about it.

Yes, I too include major news stories in my PL. I have some screenshots from the news apps on my smart phone.

I'm not doing PL, but I definitely don't feel ready to scrap it yet (I live about 4 miles away). I think I'd like to mention it at some point, but I'll probably take photos of my friends and me watching the marathon next year and use the journaling on that page to reflect on it. Can you tell I'm a big advance planner?

Yes I am. I already saved some pics on my phone off of Google from the day it happed up to the capture of the 2nd suspect. While I wouldn't include everything that happens in the news, I do want to include events that really affected me and the nation as a whole. I think it's important to include things like this so we never forget

I think I might. I'll likely journal about how the bombings made me feel, a bit about runforboston, and the date I completed my 26.2 miles. I'm unlikely to include any photos, just use some letter stickers for a '26.2'.

I'm struggling with this, too. The question for me isn't "if", it's "how much?" and what tone? We are local and attended the marathon in the morning, Iike we always do, and had a great time cheering the runners on. So lots of fun pictures. But obviously things changed after that and I feel compelled to include it but am struggling a bit with how to balance the morning photos with the rest of the story and also how to whittle it all down so it doesn't completely overwhelm the week (even as an insert), since last week was school vacation week for my kids.

I don't do PL, but I do have an album of 12 x 12 LOs in regards to current events, happenings, breaking news (election, olympics, rebuild of the twin towers, hurricane sandy, etc.)

I won't be including it in our yearly album (at least not in April. Perhaps I will add current events for the entire year at the end of the year, though.) , but I will include it in my son's school album, as they did a project based on being a good citizen in response to it.
The photo of the flag at half staff is a great idea and I think I'll add that to his page along with his completed project and an article and journaling block about how he reacted to it.
It's one of those things that I will remember in detail for a long time and so I can do something more for myself later, but he may not remember it as clearly as he grows up, so i want to get his impression of it down now.
If I did a weekly or monthly PL, though, I might include it.
|Posted: 4/23/2013 10:39:39 AM|I'm going to use an article from The Onion (warning - this is from The Onion. If you don't like satire or bad language, don't read it) here, just to document that it was a bad week all the way around. Boston, Texas, weather, etc., etc. Just a "will this week ever end" kind of week.
|Posted: 4/23/2013 10:41:57 AM|
I will be. Didn't go this year, but have stood in that spot countless times, when I was little, through college even with a baby carriage and two little ones. Its still numbing to think about it.I took snapshots of the front of our newspaper as well as have a few of the Boston Strong images stored on my phone. They will be included somehow in this past months layouts, not sure how or when. Want to try to focus on the good things here right now...like the snow has finally melted...and the boots are heading to the attic !!

I always scrap current events or anything going on in the world that I have opinion/feeling on and want to remember, write about, etc. Like Presidential elections, or significant weather, etc. I just scrap chronologically regardless of type of page protector, it just goes in order.

I did. I didn't include any pictures, but just journaled about what happened and how it made me feel. I connected it to other events in recent history and talked about how these things have influenced my current perception of the world.
I did the same thing with Sandy Hook, although I also included the newspaper from the next day (Newtown is local for me).

i live in boston and am still trying to get back to normal life. i've been struggling with the idea of what to do with PL for that week. my entire week was consumed by the events and i was glued to the news. when it first occurred, i wanted to write all of my thoughts down and record the week but by the time the week ended, i just couldn't bear to think of it all anymore. so emotionally and mentally exhausted! i believe it's important to record the good and the bad in PL (it is after all supposed to be a record of real life) so i may come back to it at a later date but for now, i believe i'll leave that week empty.

I will journal about it in my PL. And West, TX too which is only about 40 miles from me. Such a sad week last week. We also had a high school student commit suicide on the campus. I haven't done my PL for last week yet, but I will include it. Real life moments. I included Sandy Hook also. The new pope. I frequently include big news events.

I'm going to add a 12x6 insert because it really affected me emotionally. Like others mentioned, I saved a few screenshots to include.

I really like to highlight the positive things in life and I will never forget how I felt when I watched people cheering in the street and clapping as the police drove by as the 2nd suspect had been caught. I want to remember that moment of feeling thankful for those who serve and coming together as a country to proudly fly our flag and say, "You can't break us!"

|Posted: 4/24/2013 8:02:25 AM|I am not sure. I am still digesting everything. It was such a scary day/week for me, specially because my girls were between Cambridge and Somerville that day and they were not even able to look thru the windows without being scared.
Such a stressful day.

I made a filler card out of an image I found on google and then printed it, it says pray for Boston with a heart in the middle... Inside the heart there is a map of Boston... Below I just journaled about the amazing American sprit and how we came together yet again after such a horrible thing

I don't usually include current events. I usually feel like there isn't a personal story attached or in the case of Newtown, it is tragic and there is a lot to say, but my daughter is 5yrs old so I did everything I could to avoid her seeing or hearing about what happened because she loves asking questions and I thought it was best she didn't know about that event.
This time around, it happened while I was at lunch and I had a story about where I was and how I heard and how it effected the rest of my day. I had the forethought to take a screen capture on my iPad as we watched the news coverage at work so I included that along with a journaling card.

Yes I am, and also the explosion in West, TX (just an hour from me). I will also journal about how historically the week of April 15-20 is just a bad week with bad events that have happened (Oklahoma City bombing, Waco Seige, Columbine, Virginia Tech).

I don't normally scrap too much about current events, either. But I will be doing a LO about a Runners for Boston event I attended on the Monday following the bombings. I will include information about the actual bombings on the LO but the focus will be about the support and coming together of the people of Boston and across the country.

I saw a PL card someone had made with a city skyline (not sure if it was actually Boston's skyline) and they simple out Boston on it. I don't have a personal story to document about it, but would like to include major current events in my PL
|Posted: 4/27/2013 12:17:25 PM|Glad you asked that. I don't normally include current events but this story shook me in so many ways. It's impact even reached my daughter who is currently in TX.
I made some brief notes on my feelings as the events unfolded but haven't been able to put it all together. Never thought about screen grabs, newspaper articles...will get one or two images online I guess.

It was such an emotional week in so many ways I feel obliged to note it as well as West and the anniversaries of the other tragedies. I plan to have a 4x6 insert of Mister Roger's "Look for the helpers" quote. Its the only thing that got me through all the horrible images and videos that were impossible to avoid.

I actually have a paper, for the first time in forever, cos we got a free subscription. I plan on cutting something out about the bombings for my PL. It was one of the few times that I actually kept track of current events so I figure it'd be weird if I didn't mention/include anything.

I intended to only put two pictures and some journaling but I ended up with an entire left side spread. I guess it affected me more than I thought, but I did just mainly focus on the HELPERS and how America came together AFTER.
