I had put in a huge order from the peas a while back my girl, everyday eclectic, yes please, bunch of random studio calico, just a bunch of random other stuff but it all kinda goes together. Pinks, yellows, teals lots of pretty colors.

So it has been sitting and sitting. Yesterday i made 2 layouts that took including designing on the cameo about 8 hours lol! I won't post them because I totally scraplifted them

So last night i searched "starting points" on Shimelles site and i picked out 12 papers I liked as backgrounds and just started cutting! Now I have a dozen layouts just the starting points but edges inked and it all stuck down, i only used adhesive in the middles so that I can slide stuff under if I want.

Point being ( yes I do have a point) now when i want to get a bit of quick scrapping done I can just pull one of them out and get a few pages done kinda quick!

Cool huh?!

It is 7 am and I stayed up all night doing this. Kinda punchy now!

That's fantastic! I love them too. I used to make up page kits all the time and now the starting points have mostly taken the place of page kits for me, at least for the time being.

What I love is that I can make up the starting points on the weekend when I have more scrap time and then just start adding to them in 15 minute bits of time as I can during the week.

Have fun! Nancy Jo

I love her starting points. I did a lot of scrapping this past week with that concept. One thing I love is that I don't feel tied to a specific number of pictures per page. They are so versatile!

Have to love it! I created about 13 pages last weekend using it and the perfect collection cutting guide and now all I have to is add pictures and last minute embellishing. I plan on making some more soon to fill my album I am making for my husband and I. RhondaTX (I believe that's her name) posted her starting points in the gallery and has been uploading the finial layout as she goes. You should check it out.

Big thanks goes to Shimelle!!!

On her blog on the very bottom of the page there is a button/direct link to her Starting Points.

They can be found here: scrapbook starting points. There's a button right at the bottom of the screen that will take you there from any page on the blog.

So happy to hear they are helping you!! Nanna2Five, I am especially impressed with your mad all-night-paper-chopping adventure!!!!

I love Shimelle's starting points and wish she would do some more. I think its been awhile since she posted a new one.I use her concept of photo placement almost all the time now because I also do almost all 4x6.

@jerseyannegirl - all five of the pages in the NSD video (at the top of my blog currently) begin with starting point, essentially. It's a different way to look at them, but might be useful for you.

How fun! If I ever have a massive pile of photos to scrap I want to try this. I don't have many to do now, so I don't mind if my LOs take a while.

I love starting points, too, and they have really helped me stop obsessing about the perfect layout and just get layouts made. I have printed out any and all things Shimelle and made a binder for quick reference. Thanks,Shimelle, for all of your great ideas.

I love her starting points too. I took her hitch hikers and remix class, but wasn't always able to scrap right away, but I was always able to get 15 minutes, so I would make a starting point of the layouts and then when I did have time to scrap I was ready to go and I got way more scraped. I also like to take all the extra scraps when I am done scrapping and try and make a starting point while it is all on my desk, it's another great way to get one more page started. But I still wish she did more of these too!!

I have a bunch of what I call "half baked" pages meaning background paper & photos placed but still need journaling and embellishments - I really need to finish some before making any more!

But that said, I love the starting points!

I didn't know there was a name for that,
That's exactly how I scrap 90% of the time
My friends used to think I never completed a layout because I would just grab whatever I fancied that day and take it to a crop. I could put together at least a dozen pages minus the photos and journaling in during 4-6 hour crop

Good to know I'm not alone

Will try this again.....who knows where my last post went!

Imagine giving ten people the exact same starting point. It would be really really interesting to see the different layouts at the end wouldn't it? Would love to see the garden girls do this!

Let's just say Glitter Girl and her mild-mannered scrapbooking friend are really up to the ceiling with projects right now.

I don't scrapbook with starting points all the time - just some of the time - and when I do scrap in that way, I blog in that way. It's never going to be a weekly feature or something that happens on a certain day of the calendar. It happens when I'm inspired to scrap that way. Just... keepin' it real.

The concept is certainly one you can adopt and use on your own once you've got the hang of a few. Don't be afraid! (Jamie, that means CUT THE PAPER.)

Joanne, I don't use them as a batch - I use them as one layout in one session. I just pause and take the picture at the beginning when just the paper layers are down, then carry on building the layout.

(The Perfect Collection does use the batch idea, but I would still only use them in a specific session that way. If I started and walked away from them, they wouldn't ever be finished. But I do have friends who work well that way and come to crops with a stack of starting points and a bag of embellishments.)

Shimelle,

I am cutting! Yeah me! Part of the problem is that I don't want to hack up something the wrong way, such as cutting the stripes the wrong direction!

Now back to cutting...

OP, did you ever end up using yours? I have tried to pre-make exactly one LO in my time as a scrapper, and it is still sitting in an Iris box unused! I'm wondering if I'd be more likely to actually use the starting points, I know it is a different concept.

Very impressive. I love starting points. I do use them a lot when I have a set of photos in mind. Otherwise if I just made a bunch of starting point layouts I am not sure they would get used. Thanks Shimelle for the starting points and so much inspiration I could scrap for months and never do the same layout twice.

I sat for 2 hours last night and made up about 2 dozen pages from the starting points. I have a few days off coming up and I can't wait to see what I do with them.

No, no problem JoanneW! It's just a really common misconception and a question I get all the time, where it's understood that I might make all the starting points in a day and then just turn them into finished pages over the long term. That really wouldn't work with me. I don't multi-task my pages well. I can take a break while working on one project and come back to it, but I can't take a break, start something else, then go back to finish the first project. I've tried so many times and I either can't finish the project at all, or I finish it but really don't like it. Sigh - sometimes it's just not worth the struggle and it's time to just admit what works and stick to it!
