Why do crafters like Instagram? What makes it different or better than Pinterest or Flickr?

Well, I can only speak for myself... the reasons I like Instagram:

>> I can share a peek into my "real life" (most Pinterest photos are styled and well thought out, my Instagrams are rarely)

>> I get instant feedback which is absolutely fabulous if you have a question

>> Instagram is the place where I communicate most with people. If you ever have a question contact me on IG (and by mail, of course) *grins*

>> it feels more real and honest to me than any other social media platform

>> it now has a video option (how cool is that?!)

>> a lot of companies are on IG and share behind the scenes photos, it is lots of fun seeing that

>> you have all these great hashtags.. I have a look at the #scrapbooking hashtag every_single_day

>> uploading layouts to IG looks pretty awesome

>> ... I think I better stop now lol

I like instagram, but I don't use it for pictures of my layouts. Maybe I should. I like it because it's easy to use, has great options for photo filters, and I love that when I look back over my timeline it's such a great 'snapshot' of my life. It's a great way to connect with people who have the same interests as you - not just scrapbooking, but I post pictures of my pets, where I live, and my hobbies (beekeeping).
I use Pinterest for collecting inspirational images from other places, rather than my own photos. And I haven't used Flickr since I ran out of space and didn't want to have to pay to become a pro user.

I am not among the IG elite users such as Janna but I enjoy using it for all the funky filters and the square cropping.

However, I have noticed that depending on the filters I've applied, my photos sometimes print (at 4x4 size) with pixelated edges. I'm going to try re-printing them at a smaller size and see if that improves the quality.

Kate, your pets are too cute!

Cindy, how to you print them? Do you print them from iPhoto? Do you only use IG filters?

Because I just love scrapping my Instagram photos, and I love the filters, I love that the photos are made square, and that I can upload to Facebook it I choose too!

Cindy, how to you print them? Do you print them from iPhoto? Do you only use IG filters?

I use Instaport to download my IG photos and then upload them to my online photo printing company. Make sure to check that the original size aspect ratio is retained (the default for the company I use is to stretch the photo to fit a 10x15cm printing, which will warp the square IG photos but I can change this setting when I remember). Then I just cut off the excess white photo paper when the photos arrive so I have a perfect 4x4 square.

Normally I just use IG filters but sometimes I run the photos through other apps, too. My current favourites are:

* Photo Frame
* InstaWthr (weather)
* InstaPlace

Right now I'm just using the free version of all of these apps but I've been enjoying them. The photo frame app uses the photos at their original quality settings so they print super nice - you can see an example here.

The two Insta apps apply skins over your pictures. You can either take a photo in the app or choose one from your phone gallery, which means you can also use your IG filtered photos and layer a weather report or geotag info over them. I haven't printed either of these yet, since I've only been playing with them over the last two weeks or so but since they use the original photo settings, I'm guessing the quality should be pretty high (although again, IG filters might affect this). You can see an InstaWthr example and an InstaPlace example (scroll down) on my blog.

I use an Android phone (HTC One) so there might be better ways to do these things in iPhone or other i-products.

I use instagram because I take a lot of pics with my phone, and I love to add the filters. I print them and use them in my PL a lot. Instagram is the only place I share my PL layouts too, simply because its so easy! I interact with a lot of scrappers on IG. I love looking at it for inspiration. I actually check IG for inspiration more than Pinterest now.

To me, Instagram is a completely different tool than Pinterest or Flickr.

I love Instagram because it gives me everything I love about blogs (personal connection, a bit of storytelling, awesome photos, and daily activity keeping), but without excess text and in a very easy to access format.
I photograph, upload, share, and store photos that I would normally never take to put on Flickr or my blog.
Everything is easy-access and current.

Pinterest to me is more like an extensive bookmarking and organizing service. I don't really find it social, and I don't use it for personal purposes like keeping little momentos of daily stuff we are doing. I use it to bookmark ideas and images I like, and feel inspired by or someday want to try. I've also used it for practical purposes, like planning a kitchen remodel or keeping track of different bathroom vanities to replace an old one.

Flickr is kinda social for me, I like doing searches and finding new contacts to follow, but for the most part, I'd rather visit those people's blogs to find out about them. I do use it as a gallery to keep all of my layouts, as it keeps everything together and I can easily view most of my pages at once without unnecessary blog stuff getting in the way.

See things that shine on Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube.

IG is my go to photo app. I use many other apps as well but love uploading images...love seeing what I can do to make my photos how I want them or imagine them to be. I remember the days of sending the roll of film off in the mail for affordable printing and now in minutes I can upload my 4x4 images to Walgreens and pick them up and since I don't have a printer at home this makes for convenience for me...add me at poisonlady65

I use it more for myself--to capture photos of our everyday life and to record short through to about them. It's helpful when I'm printing photos and I want to quickly remember dates and important info. I usually IG through the PicTapGo app, so I usually keep the original rectangular shape.

I love IG because it's easy to use, manipulate and so user friendly. I use it on on iPad and iPhone. I print wirelessly at home and I find it to be a great way to look back over time. I love all the filters and the 4x4 size. I am not on Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and I very rarely use Pinterest. I'm just not that interested in posting my life to the world. So IG is enough for me.

I don't even compare Instagram to Pinterest or Flickr. It's just another social media outlet more along the lines of Facebook or Twitter. I like Instagram bc I can share cute photos of the kids or something with my friends/family instantly. I would never use it to replace Pinterest which I use to gather/store ideas or Flickr to upload actual photos taken with a digital camera. It's like comparing apples to oranges!
