So, I've come to the realization that it's really difficult to do a weekly PL. It's just my husband and I. Sometimes we do fun stuff, but sometimes it's the same stuff. I don't mind putting in pictures of our daily routines, but to have the same types of pictures every week is kind of boring. And it's starting to stress me out. I also don't look forward to working on my PL spreads. Some weeks I just don't take pictures.
So, I'm going to a monthly format. I'm going to finish out May (yes, I'm behind) as weekly spreads, but then I'm going to switch to documenting PL monthly. I don't want to quit doing PL, but I don't want to not enjoy it either. I hoping this works...

I did the weekly format with seven photos per week for three years and then felt as you do. I now do mine in a 6x8 snap album and do one photo per week. I am happy with this and I am not spending my time catching up or trying to think what in the world to do.

Good luck with the changeover!

I don't think I could do the weekly thing either - it's just not my style. I do really like the PL style though, so I mix that in with 12x12 layouts for my kids, family, etc. Good luck!

I started PL back in 2009....the first two years, I went the weekly route. Then, I switched over to monthly. I love it! I give myself the flexibility to add in inserts as I need, but I don't feel like I "have" to fill so much space. I still manage to fill an entire album each year, but now it is more meaningful shots than just filler shots. For example, we went to DC in May. So, I have my regular May layout with one insert for our anniversary, plus a layout for our DC trip with inserts.

I started PL this year and was doing great with the weekly format until mid-April then I switched to bi-weekly except this month will be monthly. I am just going to adjust as I need to if it is a busy week such as vacation it will be a weekly but if it is just our regular everyday boring life with nothing going on it will be either bi-weekly or monthly. We are pretty boring and now that we are on summer break there is not much going on. We spend most days just hanging out at home and relaxing. I have two teens and one 5 year old and they all prefer to be in the pool or playing games and if I get out the camera they all scream no pictures.

Yeah, I would think PL with a couple would be pretty difficult (well, any couple past their 20's, lol).

We are a family of 3 and I decided to X the weekly PL idea. Never even tried it. I do event/season PL scrapping. works well and it's not overwhelming. I don't ever feel like I'm "behind." I pretty much scrapbook events like: DD's baptism, Valentine banquet, wedding(s), DD's current school grade/year, Summer camp, Bday party, winter photo shoot, summer family photo shoot, etc.

Weekly is too much for me... I do a monthly format and really love it. I don't have to worry about remember specific dates or anything.

I love this idea - monthly will be so nice to look back on years from now. I too have been thinking of reducing my spreads - maybe 1 side per week.

I just do what I feel like.
Some weeks I do a full week others I do a day
Sometimes a month.

I don't set rules for myself. It's not fun that way

I started out PL doing it monthly and it has been great. Once I have kids, things might change but like you right now it is just me and my significant other. Beings how we both work full time and I am a full time student weekly photos just do not work for us. I prefer to document more pictures when we do something fun than fill it with boring photos just because.

Hope you like monthly as much as I do!

I'm not going the weekly route either. It's too much. We have busy fun weeks but also boring weeks. And it's just DH and me and cat.
So I just plan on doing as much as I want monthly. Some months will be two spreads, some one, and some maybe 3.

MONTHLY?????? Oh, dear and break the rules? Hee-hee. Just kidding!!!!

I switched to a monthly format. I found myself really cutting back on photos. So, every AM, when I take my little dog out, I take a pic of the sunrise. We have unpredictable clouds in Florida, so I get some interesting shots.

I've also used postcards for my photos. If there is an interesting news article, I include it. Sometimes, PL doesn't have to be all about photos.

You may really enjoy the monthly format.

I know what you mean as far as sorta same things weekly. I have no rules with PL, I just scrapbook chronologically anyway, so everything (divided page protectors & single layouts)just goes in order. I've been doing weekly this year, sometimes 1 page, sometimes 2, sometimes lots of inserts, but I found I am too busy during summer, so I'm just scrapping events for the summer. Like "day at the beach" or "4th of july" and just sort of filling in from there. Def don't let it get stressful! That defeats the purpose of scrapbooking!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and for sharing how you do PL! Sometimes, okay most of the time (!) I'm such a by the book person, so reading all of these comments makes me feel better about just doing what works for me! I'm actually excited about switching my PL up and looking forward to this "new" documentation!

We are a family of 5 and I do a monthly PL. My kids are older, 2 in college, one in HS, and it's the best format for us. I don't have the cute fillers of their drawings or anything like that. Some weeks I don't even take photos!

I did PL for two years- And I just filled the pockets as I went along -- I do use a 4x6 pocket for each MONTH --but it may not be in the upper left corner. By not having a "set number" for each month I was free to put what I thought was important into the album.

I just take pics and document what interests me day to day. I don't label by weeks, I just put all the days in together. One week might have one picture or 20. Just depends on how interesting the week is. I don't stress. It's just a peek into our lives - no rhyme or reason.

I tried. Really. I did.

Love the cards. Love the pocket pages. Love mixing them in with larger layouts.

And I'm perfectly fine with that.

I do monthly also, and love it. I just started in January and already I am so happy with the results. So many memories that I have been able to document (and for me, while I remember things that happen, I usually forget when it happened, and PL is great for retaining that.

More than that, when I just review these past few months, the gratitude that I feel for the blessings that have happened just so far this year.

January and February were both 2-page spreads. But, with spring break, I did about six pages for March. April was 4 pages and May and June are back to 2 pages. I have an insert in nearly every month (obituaries, wedding programs and invitations, etc.).

The beauty of this type of system is that you can adapt it to your needs and style. I think that is the reason it is so popular.

I did the photo a day for two years and am only doing a two page spread per month and love it. I still do other layouts but this works for the more everyday stuff.

I really like that you can just add a few photos and journaling or add more embellishments whatever you feel like. I am not using a kit but scraps and I am loving it much more than the kits. I can use scraps of some if my favorite papers and some odds and ends if embellishments as well. I love that it is such a flexible thing and everyone can adjust it for what they want and need.

I use the PL concept to do my vacation photos only. I use American Crafts divided page protectors and mix them in with the odd 12x12. It makes getting vacation photos done and into albums so much easier!!

I don't think in terms of "weekly" or "monthly" i just fill those pockets and start a new page, when the other one is full. if there was a bigger event it might take a page itself, sometime there are two weeks on one page. as long as it is chronological, it works great for me! and i think it is very logical that bigger events need a bigger space in my album.

I do PL and I'm not married and don't have any kids. I have a day job where some weeks I work crazy hours. Basically my approach is to take pictures with my iPhone and whatever I have when I sit down to scrap is what I use. Most of the time it is weekly, but sometimes it's more like 10 days or 2 weeks. I just go with it and I love my pages. I'm signing up for the smart phone photography class at Big Picture that starts on Monday to help me get more photo ideas and take better picutres.

I do it monthly also. Actually I just print out my pictures from the whole year previous and go for it.......Its a flow of the 'year' in order that the pictures were taken. I kind of group the photos together as they were taken, but, otherewise I just do pl types and if its a special occasion (birthdays, halloween, Christmas) I do a special 12x12 layout and throw it in. My page protectors are all different sizes and styles. I include report cards, drawings from my grandkids ect. Very laid back and I LOVE it.....And for this girl who has to have everything lined up in a neat little row....this is major LOL!!!! I have never, in all my 10 years scrapping, felt so free and eager to scrapbook again!!!!!!!!!!!!!
