So I know we started a Project Scrapiness group way back in January when we were all super motivated to stick to our resolutions. But just like with all those diets and exercise plans, I think we kind of lost our way. But I've been doing pretty faithfully.

Now I want YOU to come play with me!!!

I've really loved working on my Happiness Project over the last few months. It's not about making my life all sunshine and lollipops. Sometimes I'm grumpy--and I LIKE it! But in general, I want to feel a greater sense of contentment and be more resilient when bad things do happen. Plus, it's another excuse to play with pretty paper.

So, seriously, come play with me!!!

If you haven't read The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, I highly recommend it. Here she is on CNN talking about it:

CNN Interview

But you do not have to read the book to participate in Project Scrapiness!

Here's how it will work:

Each week, I will post some journal/discussion prompts and then some scrappy projects to go along with it. We can motivate and inspire each other! You can make your own Project Scrapiness as simple or as elaborate as you want. That's it!

So are you in? Let's get started!

Week 1
Journal/Discussion Question (from Gretchen's website):

What makes you feel good? What gives you joy, energy, fun?
What makes you feel bad? What brings you anger, guilt, boredom, dread?
What makes you feel right? What values do you want your life to reflect?

Scrappy Fun:
One
Choose a book or journal for your project. You can do a mini-book, a traditional 12 x 12, an art journal, you can even incorporate it into an existing Project Life. Whatever you want! Think of a title and decorate your cover! Here's mine...I used a Snap binder:

Two
Create a layout using one of the following quotes (or a different one of your own choosing).

"Be in love with your life. Every minute of it." --Jack Kerouac

"Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life." --Omar Khayyam

"If you want to be happy, be." --Tolstoy

Here's mine:

Three
Make a Happiness Pie Graph. Identify the things you think make you happy--love, money, stuff, success, friends, family, accomplishments, purpose, faith, etc. It can be what ever is important to you. All of our pie charts should be competely different! Here's mine (inspired by this pie graph from Marcy Penner.

BTW, I found that awesome happiness flow chart on Pinterest...you can get it here:

Happiness Flow Chart

And here is my Happiness Pinterest Board full of great inspiration.

Please link your creations and participate in the thread each week. We're gonna have so much fun!!! And I'll be back every Sunday for a while to bug you all until you participate just to shut me up!

Hope to see you in here soon!

This is so exciting! I participated in Project Scrappiness until February and then lost motivation. I love that you picked up this project again. The first prompts seem really doable! Thank you!

I'm in! This sounds great! I could certainly use more happiness in my life. The book sounds good so I'm on the waiting list. I also started my own happiness board on Pinterest and repined quite a few of your pins.

Thanks for doing this

Anne, Margie and Sweetly Made...I'm so glad you're gonna play!

Now...come on everybody else...give it a chance...it's gonna be fun!

Like I said before, you do not have to read the book. And it's not some gut-wrenching, soul-searching, touchy-feely group therapy thing (although you can make it what you want!)

It's just a a fun, crafty way of identifying the things in life that bring you the most joy and happiness in an effort to make them a priority in your everyday life.

So don't be shy!

So I'm going to get the conversation started so ya'll can see how painless it is...Answer the following questions with just 3 words each! That's just 9 words total--you can do it!

What makes you feel good? What gives you joy, energy, fun?
Love, Laughter, Adventure

What makes you feel bad? What brings you anger, guilt, boredom, dread?
Laziness, Procrastination, Worry

What makes you feel right? What values do you want your life to reflect?
Love, Generosity, Purpose

Then, if you want to expand--you can! This will help you with your pie graph should you choose to make one!

What makes you feel good? What gives you joy, energy, fun?

Spending time with people I love, laughing, accomplishing things (whether it's work or a fun project or even just having ALL my laundry done at the same time), doing artsy/crafty things, doing new/adventurous things like traveling, eating a new kind of food or meeting new friends...

What makes you feel bad? What brings you anger, guilt, boredom, dread?

Wasting time. I don't mean relaxing--that is time VERY well spent. I mean spending hours in front of the TV, realizing I didn't enjoy anything I watched, realizing I'll never get those hours back and that I'm more tired than I was when I sat down.

Procrastinating. Putting off things I know I have to do just prolongs the misery because I think about them even when I'm not doing them.

What makes you feel right? What values do you want your life to reflect?

Making other people feel good by either doing kind things, saying kind things or teaching new things.

Having a purpose. I'm a teacher and am passionate about not only teaching my kids, but helping other teachers be the best they can be.

Thank you for reviving this! I overlooked it in January simply because there seemed to be 'new year' type projects everywhere. But I've been thinking about my happiness lately and have realized that I need to make a bit more effort to see what's good in my life. Bickering kids can just suck that out of me sometimes. I've got a journal in mind for this project already.

So I spent some time scrapping with my cousins(13,15,41) and I was telling them about this project. I think that we had a real meaningful conversation and it helped me really think about what makes me happy and what doesn't .

What makes you feel good?
-validation -family/friends(loved ones) - education(learning and teaching

What makes you feel bad?
- debt -tension(internal and external sources) -disorganization( I am not really organized, ever. I try, but just can't keep things in their place)
What brings you anger, guilt, boredom, dread?
-lies, deceit, lies by omission, procrastination(I am really good at this though)
What makes you feel right?
-volunteering, personal time(decompress, reflection time), smiling/laughing
What values do you want your life to reflect?
Integrity, generosity, humility.

I will post pictures of my cover and layout soon( I have to take the pictures still, see there's that procationation)
Hope everyone had a fantastic week.

Yay. I`ve had a busy week so haven`t got to far BUT I did buy a book for me and my daughter (19) so we can both play along. It will be a surprise for her but I think she will love it.
I have been thinking of this all week, so happy you started it
