Now that Google Reader is gone, what are you using to organize your scrapbook blogs? bloglovin, feedly, newsblur? I'm a little lost here...

Yeah, Feedly. Works just as well as Google Reader, both app & web based.

Bloglovin has been working well for me. That said, I still follow my favorite blogs by email if possible. I wish more bloggers would offer this option.

I am OG... I have all my regular blogs linked across the top of my bookmarks bar, so I just click them one by one.

WORKS FOR ME!

I signed up for BlogLovin for other people, but I never look at the blogs I'm following. Ever. I just do it to support the owner of the blog, up her number so she feels better. So I never used Google Reader or anything else.

You can back up the list of your Feedly blogs by going to Organize > As OPML. Copy & paste the code into a file and you can import it back to Feedly or another feed reader if necessary.

NewsBlur

I tried Feedly for a while and ended up never checking my blogs because, even though it's gorgeous, you can't just scroll through the blog and see what visuals there are. You only see titles and sometimes one photo. So you have to actually click on the post to see if it's something you want to look at, instead of scroll past it.

But maybe I'm wrong -- maybe there is a way to see it all and just missed it.

BTW. NewsBlur is only free for 60+ feeds, or something like that. You pay a yearly fee to subscribe to more than that. $25 I think.

Noell, there are four ways to view posts in Feedly, one of which is Full Article, which will show everything - the only time this won't work is if the blog owner has configured the RSS feed so that it only shows a snippet, and then it won't work in any other feed reader, either. (But then you can convert the feed via fulltextrssfeed.com to make it work anyway.)

I've been a Feedly user for quite awhile although it just went buggy over the course of last week for iPads and iPhones. Hopefully the iOS update will happen quickly or I'm going to need to switch. Gong old school to read my blogs has not been fun.

Although I don't like change...I found Bloglovin EZ to understand and cope with.

I LOVE the photos by each blog address when I check in. Makes it easy to see what I want to and come back to what I want to view later.

PLUS...

When I look at the blog, the photo has a filmy overlay that let's me know I've seen it before...but it makes it easy to locate when I want to get back to a certain photo/blog.

When I Mark all Read, all the photos have the overly. Again I can go back if I choose.

I really like it.

feedly and theoldreader - not happy with both (though they are better than some of other readers I tried). And all of them have the same issue - they don't refresh feed quickly.

Feedly has three different layouts you can choose... there are icons on the top right of the screen. If you click on the little cog that says "change layout and filtering" you can choose from titles, magazine, timeline, cards, or full articles.

Titles is just a list of blog name plus post title.

Magazine view shows a small image, plus post title and the first few lines of the post. Displayed in horizontal rows.

Cards looks like magazine, but displayed in a grid.

And full article shows the entire blog post as you'd see it on the blog, but without the blog coding/sidebars/header.

If you click on "preferences" at the bottom of the menu on the left, you can choose your default view to one of the options above. You can still easily switch between the different views by using the cog-icon "change layout and filtering" options I described above.

I keep my default on full articles, but like being able to switch certain categories to magazine. Things like food or quilting, when I know there are lots of posts that I won't be interested in, so I can easily just click on the posts I do want to read.

I guess I'm totally out of it - why do you need a "reader"? I've been wondering about this ever since the Google reader posts started popping up? I would love to find out what I'm missing . . .

Jennifer, a blog reader is an easy way to organize and mark all of your favourite blogs. It highlights/notifies you which blogs have new posts and you can easily scroll through posts, one after another, either from the same blog or from a category/list of blogs you've assembled and tagged. Organizing blogs is a great way to keep like-blogs together... I have categories for food, nails, scrapbooking, paper crafting, decor, thrifting, etc.

A blog reader is just much easier than trying to maintain and organize individual bookmarks in a web browser. I hated scrolling through my list of bookmarks to click on them one a time to find out that yet again, for the 9th blog in a row, it hadn't been updated since the last time I visited.

Feedly. I still miss my Next and Subscribe buttons from Google reader though. I tried Bloglovin' but the button bar doesn't work well at all if you want to leave a comment. Also if you pin something when using Bloglovin, it links back to the bloglovin feed rather than the original post.

In Feedly, you just hover over a photo, click on the Pinterest symbol that appears and pin. The link goes back to the original blog post URL.

I love Feedly - however, I've been using it for a while now and ignored the warnings I was getting - I needed to do something to have my all my feeds from google reader transferred and well I lost all my feeds. sooooo ... I'm basically starting from scratch again. But I love the way Feedly works and displays!
