Well Peas, I haven't had this thing 2 weeks and it already jammed.
I called WRMK customer service and they said they had not heard of this issue yet (well, it just came out) and they are going to call me back.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

The magnetic part will not release and is holding the negative paper hostage. I tried to punch down again, nicely tap the sides, and the gentle "drop" with no luck.

I'm a sad scrapbooker. I only used it during two different layouts. I had high hopes for this $30 punch.

People on the scrap yard and another FB page are complaining about this already as well. Sounds like it doesn't give a clean cut either. Guess I will be saving my $$$ until all the bugs are worked out

Wow, sorry to hear this. Hope you can get it to work again. I have had some punches stick down and get stuck. I had to kind of ease them back up after sticking like that. I hope customer service gets back to you quickly and tells you how to fix this one or send you a new one.

To be honest, I worried about this. I haven't had good luck with punches that are a big punched-out area and that don't have a "tail" to push for the lever.

I prefer the old "whale-tail" style punches for punches that have a big area to cut out. I always end up jamming any punch that punches out a big square or whatever, if it's the kind where you have to press the punching surface.

Sigh. I really want this one, too.

I don't have the punch, but I've had plenty of punches stick over the years. Try putting it in the freezer overnight. The metal should contract enough for the punch to come free.

Or you can you use a screw driver to gently pry it apart. Or drop it really hard! I've done that with some larger punches.

If you get it unstuck, punch some wax paper through it. That may help.

I'm suprised WRMK CS said they would call you back.. I had a bind it all that was broken straight from the box and they immediately sent me a brand new one in the mail no questions asked.. didnt even have to ship back the broken one & it was pricey over $100 vaule! I thought there CS was great.. Hopefully they will call you back and just send you a new one.. And as far as them never hearing about the punch jamming up.. Duh its new! Lol that's a funny one

Someone on the Facebook Smashaholics group was also complaining about it not cutting smoothing. I hope this is not going to be true across the board. I was really looking forward to getting one.

I think the punch is just too big unless you are using light weight paper but most companies use a heavier weight paper.

I also can't imagine these punches lasting a good long while but they are a nice idea, back to the die cuts.

Well crap, I was really looking forward to this. However, I was hoping they would make a big punch similar to cropadile. Easy punch and go. I have had issues with their super 8 punches and they are massive!

Considering it took them 6 months after winter CHA, you would think they would have the bugs out. I am sure they will fix this for you. I've had a very good experience with their CS.

Oh snap! I bought a die to cut my PL cards, guess I will stick with that as it cuts like butter. The advantage of the punch though is being able to punch exactly where you want it. Will be waiting to hear more on this issue before I buy it.

OP - sorry, I have no advice on how to fix it, but I hope you get some satisfaction from customer service and soon!

Well that sucks! Has anyone who has one and isn't getting a smooth cut tried "sharpening" it with almminum foil? I was always told that for blunt punches, use it to cut through foil a few times, and it helps sharpen them. To the OP: I hope they make this right for you ASAP!

I think the freezer trick is next to try-thanks Peas!

I know that for me to get a clean, smooth punch from this contraption I had to place either hand on the right/left side and push down with a good amount of fluid force. Kinda like an upper body workout!

Sometimes the freezer or wax paper trick works. However for a $30 punch, OP shouldn't have to try that kind of stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I like WRMK tools, they have some great ones and they continue to be innovative, however, will they ever come up with something that actually works when it's released? Why does it take so many of us who get it first to work out the bugs for them and have to wait for the improved version to come out I think they need more product testing Good thing they have such great customer service but I still feel bad for everyone that gets it first and struggles with issues. Hopefully this is another tool that will be improved soon as I know so many of us are loving the PL approach to scrapping!

I don't have that punch but I have one that is about 2x2. It jams all the time. And doesn't cut smooth sometimes as well. When it jams, I throw it on the floor repeatedly until it comes "un-jammed".
Crazy, but it works.

And the King will tell them, when you did it to one of the least of these, you were doing it to me.

freezer is a great idea. i've had great results with cutting 3-4 layers of aluminum foil several times to sharpen punches. i've also had good luck with the wax paper for helping with punches that stick. sorry OP...bummer to have that happen. hope it comes unstuck.

Why would using foil to sharpen it work? I've heard this often, but I can't see why it would work. I've used a fine grade sandpaper which seems more logical, and does sharpen punches well.

Just curious.

Mine punches through the paper or photo just fine-the magnetic part just will not release now (which makes said punch a $30 paperweight hogging up space on my project table lol).

The time in the freeze did nothing.

No word back from WRMK either.

Do you mean a Cinch? I don't think WeR makes the Bind it all. But, either way, that's great CS if it was a Cinch.

ALSO- I had feared there would be issues with this punch. I don't know why, i just did. I have no use for it, but it's a shame so many are having issues, and it's a spendy purchase!!! WeR tends to be a little wacky when it comes to CS I think.

I watched a video on this punch and the corners on the cut paper have a jagged look
to them. I don't think the problem has to do with the size of the punch. it's just a
bad quality production.

Not sure if this is still an issue but wanted to share my experience. I had a stuck punch same as the described in the original post. We forced the punch open and in the process broke off two of the stabilizing prongs in the lid. I called WRMK, took pictures, emailed and two weeks later received a replacement (just yesterday in fact.)

So today I attempted to use the punch for the first time and the same thing started to happen. Interestingly, I felt the punch resisting the downward push and I stopped. I was attempting to punch a section of a photo - nothing out of the ordinary with the photo paper standard stuff in my opinion. I inspected the picture and I noticed that the four holes punched to stabilize the photo were off. Two punches were on the money but another two were cut and smashed on the other side (I had adjusted the photo once I attached the lid of the punch and must have moved the photo off point.) I temporarily adhered a 5"-1/2 x 4" inch of copy paper to the back of the photo and tried again - it worked brilliantly. I think it's the paper stabilizing prongs that are the issue - my experience is that they must have something to hold on to while the punch is made. Hopefully this will help someone!

This is so bizarre, really, I feel bad for the people who post here of their problems with this punch, but I have had it since July, and have had no problems with it yet. could there have been one bad batch from the factory? did anyone else besides me get a good one? I almost feel guilty that mine is working fine.

Mine works really well, too!

Honestly, though, I expected to have to use a lot of force and to use the foil/wax paper to keep the punch sharp and smooth. It's just maintenance - paper dulls blades so quickly - kind of like how you never cut paper with fabric scissors. It's incredibly wearing on your tools.

Hope their CS works out - I did check with Hobby Lobby when I purchased mine, just to be sure, and they said even if it was opened, they would take them back. Maybe try that route?

I was worried about this punch but I couldn't help myself when Hobby Lobby got it in stock, I still cannot punch with my hands but I set it on the floor and use my foot (while sitting) and it works out perfect. My dh only looks at me a little funny but that's ok.
