Welcome to the August edition of the Young Scrappers thread! We went out with a bang in July with all of the CHA festivities. Let's see if we can keep up the momentum this month!

Who are the Young Scrappers? We are a group of "young" 20-something to 30-something year old girls who created a group to share our interest in scrapbooking! We take the "young" part lightly - it's all about how young you feel. Feel free to join in the chat! Just post an intro so we know who you are. And post links to your layouts here - we love to share our work & leave some praise!

-------------------------------

We are continuing our challenge for the year:

For the Pinspiration Challenge, we collaborated to create a list of 52 challenges - one for each week this year! The challenges were based off of layouts we had pinned on Pinterest or bookmarked online. It is a way to use some of that inspiration we are constantly pinning on Pinterest!

There really are no rules with this challenge! It is more just a way to motivate each other to scrapbook. Choose challenges from the list that you feel inspired by, create something, and share it with us! The goal is to see how many challenges you can complete in one year.

Here is the link to the challenge list to download: challenge sheet

And here is the Pinterest board with all the challenges and sample layouts: Pinspiration challenge on Pinterest

Every month, we will have a hostess to keep us motivated. For May, our hostess is CHRISTINA! Christina has created different mood boards as our challenges this month. She explains the details below:

CHALLENGE 1 MOODBOARD
Young scrappers August Challenge number 1: Show me your initials! I want to see layouts with big letters, initials, or fancy monograms. The letters can be embellished, part of your background, painted whatever you want, just make them bold! This challenge can be combined with any of the Pinspiration challenges.

CHALLENGE 2 MOODBOARD
Young scrappers August Challenge number 2: Use a photo as a background! I need to see things on top of your photo for this to count, it can be your title, another photo, some paper or embellishments. Not a lot, just enough to make it clear it's a background. This challenge can be combined with any of the Pinspiration challenges.

CHALLENGE 3 MOODBOARD
Young scrappers August Challenge number 3: Make your own stamp or stencil! Show me your designing skills and make something unique! It can be carved into a piece of styrofoam, a potato, or whatever else you have lying around, in your description, please include how you made it.

Every challenge LO will get you an entry, every comment "praise"will get you another entry, every time you answer one of my "leader questions' on the board you will get an entry. A random one will be chosen at the end of the month and receive a bundle of goodies! (the more entries, the better your chances of winning!)

My challenges are still open through the weekend!

Recipe:
Monica's Recipe Challenge:
(1) 1-3 photos
(2) cardstock background
(3) 3 sheets of patterned paper, cut into strips.
(4) Add something hard and something soft.
(5) Add something flat and something dimensional.
(6) Add something matte & something shiny.
(7) Quote/lyric/book title for the title.
(8) Add either journaling or at least the date.

some hints:
For steps 4-6, get creative! It doesn't have to be all embellishments. Matte could mean a mist or stamping or washi tape. Anything with a matte surface. Something soft could be ribbon, sewing, a soft embellishment, etc.

For the patterned paper strips, you can cut as many strips as you want as long as it's from the 3 patterns and as long as they are strips.

Wednesday challenges:
(1) Use a non-scrapbook Pinterest piece for your starting off point. For example, fashion, an art piece, home decor, nature, etc.

(2) Scrap a page about YOU!

(3) Water: as a theme, in a technique, an embellishment, or patterned paper

(4) Use 3 different mediums on your project. Some examples: paint, rubons, mist, inking, stamping, diecutting, glitter, stickles/dimensional paint, embossing, gelatos, copics, resist, sewing, hand stitching, doodling, etc.

(5) Use all the same number/amount of items on your page. For example: 3 papers, 3 buttons, 3 stamped images or 5 ribbons, 5 photos, 5 enamel dots, 5 staples.

Hey ladies. Finding more time now that we have moved, but hotel living will restrict my scrapbooking. I only was able to bring my sons scrapbook so I don't fall behind. There isn't much room in the hotel room either so luckily I am doing Project Life baby kit.

Well I've missed you gals and will try to keep up in the conversations, but it's been moving.

For those that I don't know my name is Elizabeth, 2 girls and a 1month old son. We are moving to Houston, TX on Saturday for my husbands new job. I love chatting, scrapbooking, sewing, knitting, and other crafts.

Can someone fill me in on how things are working now? Thanks

Elizabeth

Hi girls !!!!

So happy to see you girls (Elizabeth and Bethany!)

@Christina: great mood board!! I love the 1st one do you have the real pin, I need to check that out !!

no scrapbooking for me this week, but tonight we are going to visit a place!!!! and in 30 min I need to go sign another contract with a teaching agency.

Yesterday I want to the Jobcenter (to claim for unemployment benefit) it was the most horrible and fustrating experience in my life. technically I need to find 2 other job I would like to do after teaching. I always wanted to be a teacher, I never done anything else, I don't wana do anything else...
plus because i am going out of the country to see my parents in a week, i need to stop claiming benefits and start all over again when I come back... I am ready to give up just for 2 month benefits it is not worth it so much trouble...

anyway, this is why I did not come yesterday on the thread, too depressed, which was really annoying because yesterday the weather was AMAZING! (there is always someone to ruin your mood...)

Some of you might have seen it, I tempted to make a rocky road for my ex-housemate leaving party, the decorating was a disaster but the cake and the party were great!

have a nice day
(i am sure that when I come back from the interview some of you will be up!! Hopefully!!)

Thanks for the welcome back.

Caro: sry you are feeling low and out. Don't know the whole situation, but I hoe you hang in there and is able to find a job you love doin soon.

Monica: I leave this hotel in Oklahoma (hubby is defending his thesis today) and we drive to Houston to stay in another hotel until we close Sept 5th. Miss scrapbooking and if doesn't help I am wanting new products from CHA.

I'm feeling pretty low today (have been for a while) and I need a kick in the butt. Hoping I can pull it together. Hope everyone has a good day and weekend.

Welcome back Elizabeth and Bethany!!

Elizabeth: I can only imagine what hotel life with two little ones is like. Hang in there.

For any of you all that will be around this weekend, Scraptastic kit Club is having a crop and the grand prize is a 3 month subscription. So come get scrappy with me there! I will be on chatzy between visitors. (My dad, stepmom, sister, and grandma are coming Saturday) if the weather is nice, I will need to work out in the yard some. Pulling weeds and such.

Welcome to the new Ladies! I'm Christina (or Hodge) third year university student in canada, studying biology, been scrapping for 8 years, and have an obsession with patterned paper.

My (long distance) bf is coming up here later today!! I'm so excited! I'll probably be absent this weekend... doing stuff with him haha so I'll leave you all with a question!
August Question 1: What has been the best part of your summer so far? or what part coming up is most exciting?

Christina, do you mean a challenge checkbox for the gallery?

If so, you go to "blog" in the dropdown menu at the top, where your name is. Then when you do the blog post, make sure you choose "challenge" as the type, include the dates, and whatever title you want to show up when uploading to the gallery.

Welcome back Elizabeth and Bethany! Hope to see you around more this month!

Jessica, welcome! I'm Melissa, 23 and live in North Vancouver, Canada. with my boyfriend (Jonny). My dogs name is Milo. Jonny and I LOVE to travel for months on end and scuba dive. I also enjoy yoga and going to Jonny's family farm.

August Question 1: What has been the best part of your summer so far? or what part coming up is most exciting?
Nothing too special has happened this summer. I would say having most of it off work to catch up on scrapbooking? And I'm excited for the end of the month for Jonny's big dirty 30 bash at the farm with lots of friends

Hi girls!

Wow! i haven't been on in ages! I feel horrible some of you I see on IG so I don't feel like i've lost touch completely.. Anyway I don't know wether I need to say welcome to all new girls or I'm the one that should be welcomed

Some facts about me for the people i don't know yet:
I'm Dee, 27 yrs old, I'm from the Netherlands and I live together with my fiancé
Food, traveling and scrapbooking are my main passions furthermore I try to work out a few times a week, but that's more for the sake of feeling good than for fun

August Question 1: What has been the best part of your summer so far? or what part coming up is most exciting?
The fact that we've finally set a date for our wedding ánd announced it oh and our holiday was perfect!

Anyway, the reasons I haven't been on for a while are all good! We had an amazing holiday at the isle of Corsica (France) and shortly after we both volunteered at a creative arts camp I just went back to work last week and trying to get in the usual rythm It's been ages since I made a page, so really hopin' to get back to that as well... I feel like it (a lot), but these days are filled with brainstorming for our wedding, which is also fun of course

How are you gals doing?
Loni: how's life with the latest addition to your family?
Caro: so sad to hear about your jobstruggles hope it'll work out for you soon!
Christina: enjoy ur time with the bf
Elizabeth: living in a hotel? Wow! Must be hard with kids and all!! Excited to be moving?
Rach: how are you doing? Still love Millies pics on IG! Have fun with your family this weekend! I'll be visiting mine as well
Jessica: welcome! Think i know you from IG as well
Monica: fun video!
Melissa: how do u like your Cameo?

Well I'm off for some groceries! Hopefully will be able to check in later!

Have a great weekend!

Dee: Yay for you being back! Congrats on setting your wedding date, when will it be? How was your guys' mini vacation? All the IG photos looked great!

Hellooooo ladies!

Last few months i've been scarce, mainly from life issues and moving. BUT! We are all moved now, moved 3 hours away from my home town, and scrap stuff is unpacked. Hoping to stay ontop of the board now August is a great month for me My first wedding anniversary is on the 18th!

August Question 1: The best part so far would have to be finally achieving our dream of moving to Calgary. Josh and I have wanted to move up here for about 3 years, and it just was never in our cards! The part that is coming up that i'm most excited about is my 1 year wedding anniversary weekend

To all the new ladies I have yet to meet, I'm Lisa, 22 (will be 23 next month) and I now live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I have two fur babies, both cats, Loki & Neo.

Christina: LOVE the first challenge. Can't wait to get started!

Dee: When did you set the date for? Weddings are so exciting!

I'm off to do a few LO's and relax We have a long weekend here in Canada, tomorrow is a Civic Holiday (whatever that means )

Talk to you ladies later!!

Lisa, glad to hear your all moved in. Unpacking usually takes a while.

Caro, we have a big printer but as you said it eats ink as well. I think I may get a selphy!

Dee, I hope in the future! I didn't find a typewriter, I was amazed I didn't! I got a cool old school scuba helmet candle lantern from a lady that use to live by our place. Her hubby finds old nautical stuff and then makes cool decor using it with drift wood. Some how I un-followed you on IG oops

Is anyone scrapping today? Holiday here in Canada - not sure about states?

No holiday here.

I have been working, however we have a server down, so I am pretty limited to what I can accomplish.

I received my August Scraptastic kits today. I haven't unboxed it yet, I would make a video- but I'm technologically challenged.

okay so the place was really nice
but the area was far from anything... shops, transports...
and a bit dodgy.....

so I think for the moment we are still on the 1st one
we're going back there on Wednesday evening again with a measuring tape
I also went on IKEA website and looked at storage and which height we need the place to be (we are under the roof, so most of the walls are slopped...)

Hi ladies! Out at the driving range today, just taking a break. I finished my travel album. Will take some pictures tonight. Hoping to get some scrapping done this month. More than I got done last month.

Hi Girls,

must be the heat or something, because I accidently got challenges mixed up... So if you're thinking, what's that??? in the August challenge submissions, well that was me...Sorry, I'm going to edit it now!

And by the way, as the discussion is on printers I have a Canon office printer (WD42.. something^^) and am very pleased with it. I normally print pics on DIN A4 photopaper and cut them up, but you can also insert smaller normal sized photopapers.

Stacy, the way you use inks is so cool! How do you get the dripping effect? (Bottom of page- Don't know tech term lol)

Is anyone thinking of taking Jill Sprotts class? It's only $12 buy its mainly on journaling it seems

Hi girls
so sad the women for the flat just emailed me and told me she can't tonight she is going earlier at the airport... and when she comes back we are going to be on holidays

today is Damien's bday, I have no card, no present and no motivation...
this is really bad of me... and on top of everything I have a really bad sore throat... and my periods

any idea for a man's bday card easy to make before 7pm (it is 4pm right now)

Hey ladies! Haven't been reading the post because I'm still trying to settle into this hotel. Hotel living with 3 kiddos is not ideal, but we are making due. We stayed in a value place last summer so not really my first hotel living go around. I just can't wait until we move into our home so I can get my scrapbook supplies out.

I hope everyone is doing great and getting a lot of projects done this summer.

I am sending an email resignation to the rich family's dad today! Send me luck please, hes not going to be happy with it!

Caro: Sorry to hear about the apt - how long after she comes back will you be back? I think you said 2/3 weeks on chat? Happy (belated?) birthday to Damien!

August Question 2: If you could travel anywhere for a summer vacation, where would you go? How would you spend your time?
Tough question! I love BC when it's summer! But if I could travel anywhere right now, it would be the French Polynesian Islands! I imagine I would spend most of my time scuba diving, swimming, eating and tanning - relaxing and enjoying life!
What about you Christina?

Elizabeth, how long until you guys move in? I saw the corn dog pic on your FB - YUCK!

August Question 2: If you could travel anywhere for a summer vacation, where would you go? How would you spend your time? Hmm, I think I'd love to go to Papa New Guinea or Madagascar with my boyfriend. We're both pretty sciency but we LOVE cute animals, so it would be an animal hike/find trip. Plus, both of those places are threatened ecosystems, so I want to see them before they're gone.

Melissa, that would be fun! You guys seem pretty adventurous too Also, yes, you can use any size picture, as long as it is behind something/part of the background

Hey gals!
Work has been super busy this week. Hoping to have some downtime this weekend.

We have a big trip to IKEA on Saturday. (We may even go down Friday night, stay in a hotel, and then get there when they open) AND my brother may come for a visit. He says he misses Millie and needs to see her.

Sunday I am in the nursery at church as the volunteer. So no more skipping church.

Have I told you all I will be teaching dance again this fall? Last night I did 10 minutes of a basic Pilates mat and I feel the burn today! Time to get back in shape!
