I've started working on my Holiday cards and even with a nice stash I still needed to spend $10 on ribbon and paper to use with my supplies. Otherwise I am frozen. I've been sorting through the stash and even found all of the makings for a daily December/ Christmas album.

Please keep posting like this, I need to freeze. Reading AmberGirl's comment on this thread hit close to home. My IRL scrap friends are competitive shoppers - doesn't help my personal goals!

I'm frozen too. Just posted THIS last week. My friends also shop a lot, but I don't feel the strain or urge to keep up with them. My goal is more important and I find it really silly that I've accumulated so much stuff and still find justification to buy more. Now that to me is all the motivation I need. The stuff I bought two years ago or even 1 year ago is just as pretty as it was when I just had to have it.

I read treyaut's original post when it first posted and it has made me think a lot. I'm now motivated to stop shopping and use what I have. I have a lot, and will be fine for a year without shopping. I may need some adhesive along the way, possibly another album, but that should be it. I did make a purchase this month already so I'm done.

I'm ready to declare myself frozen. I even pulled out my old American Crafts Sixth Avenue patterned papers and I am going to finally USE them. When are they even from, circa 2005?

I don't "binge shop" like I used to do with my friends --once a month we would go to a larger metro area and shop at 3-4 stores. However, I do pick up one or two items when I just happen to be in a store for other reasons. I am not kicking myself for it...but I know I don't need anything.

I think I can stay frozen until Nov 1.... it's my promise. I will probably need adhesive by then.

There's a 20% off summer sale I see here on Two Peas. Be strong ladies. Don't give in. You can do it. There is nothing I need that bad that will cause me to fall off the FROZEN wagon. I have 360 days to go.

Hey all my frozen peas. Hope you all are hanging in there. I have a victory story. As many of you know I am frozen for 1 year. As of today, I have 354 more days to go.

I went to J's with a friend (she wanted to pick up some paper and embellishments). I tagged along because I needed some liquid adhesive (only thing I'm allowing myself to purchase is adhesive, trimmer blades and page protectors - if needed). OMGoodness- Thickers were 40% off (many designs that I didn't have) and Fiskars & EK Success punches were as low as $3.47 (a few that I really wanted). GUESS what, I walked out with my Beacon 3n1 glue only and 1 punch (I had a giftcard that I've been harboring in my wallet for over a year). I paid for my glue with cash (to keep record separately) and my punch with the GC for $3.67 with tax. Woot! Woot!

Treyaut, your thread about being frozen for a year and the other thread of not outgrowing your scraproom, hit me close to home. I have so much scrap stash everywhere!! It feels as if I could swim in it. I posted that I was inspired by your thread to freeze my spending and that is still true. I decided to use the 20% off sale to buy two workshops from Two Peas instead of buying product I don't really need. I felt this was money well spent because these classes will help me use up my stash and improve my scrappingbooking. I am also purposefully leaving my cart here empty to prevent temptation.

Wish me luck that I stay this strong!

You can do it, ladies! I have been frozen for quite awhile. Something that works for me is "planned binges." I try to keep my spending very under control with the understanding that sometimes I just need something new and pretty and fun to play with. Then I go out with a set limit in mind and shop until I hit the limit. I have found myself much more inspired and creative with the supplies I have and I don't really need to buy too many other things. And, treyaut, you are an inspiration! A whole year?!?! You go girl and enjoy your big purchase at the end!!

You go, treyaut!n I don't know if I could've resisted 40% off.

I've been pretty good at staying frozen, but not perfect. In my defense, I had run out of turquoise cs and it's a staple for so many of my beach/pool pages, so I did buy a bunch of that w/in the past month. Furthermore, Your Honor, we just got back from a trip to Hawaii and I had to hit the Ben Franklin there to see if they had anything Hawaiian themed that I hadn't seen in my local stores. They did, so I bought some, but that was the only purchase I've made.

I am now jumping back into the freezer like a good little Pea.

I was strong the previous 2, but this one did me in - I think it was the new 2Peas flair! I had to have it.

I am looking for items in my stash to use in new ways this week. I found some heidi Swapp banners and some washi tape that I am going to add to my planner to make it more fun. And I've decided to dress up some plain gift bags with my stash of scraps. I've also signed up for a garage sale at my lss.... I would like to have a small store credit to cover crop fees for this Fall. I've made a list of some decorative fun things that I make for Halloween for friends/ family. I don't want to just not spend but I want to bring my stash to life - not just packed away in my room. I am planning to attend CK Jacksonville with a VERY limited amount of fun money as a reward for my efforts. What are your plans for The next couple of months?

Last week, I resisted going to M's to use a 40% off coupon. yay! Instead, I sorted all of my "pending projects" that have been in clear plastic envelopes forever, and This week I will determine which will become an album and which are just for pages to add to existing albums.

By November, my goal is to rid these envelopes/project kits and be done with them! So that I can begin Dec Daily and a few crafty gifts for the holidays.

My ultimate goal is to unfreeze by the new year to buy my first PL supplies and finally begin PL in 2014. Whew. Looking forward

I have unsubscribed to all the scrapbooking online stores, deals, steals, etc. (except for Two Peas). I've even unsubscribed to M's, J's and HL. I don't need a 40% off temptation to cause me to fall off the FROZEN WAGON. I am keeping my word, my contract, my promise that I will only buy adhesive, page protectors and trimmer blades when needed. By the way, only 352 days to go. Go me! Go me! Go me!

FROZEN and totally WARMING up to the idea.

I was organizing/putting stuff in their places again last night and it started to make me ill seeing all the embellishments I own. And I'm out of room in the baskets I was storing them in. I'm done with shopping. I joined a couple challenges so I'm hoping to put a dent in my stash.

I've gone months without shopping in the past. Over the spring/summer I fell off the wagon and landed hard! I'd really like to find the will power to be frozen for an entire year. Guess I need to go do some soul searching.

Chris I know what you mean. It really makes me wonder what the heck was I thinking purchasing all of this stuff and not making a dent in my stash. For me there is no justification. So I am with you. I have been knocking out the CADA challenges this month (need to post some more layouts) and I'm going to make a few mini albums this weekend. I have marked my days on the calendar and as of today I have 352 days to go. I'm hoping the compulsive and impulsive spending for scrappy goodies will have dissipated a bit when I hit my 1 year victory; from then on, I hope the discipline carries on to where I only buy what I know I will use within a month.

I am throwing my pea into this ring until January, and then I will evaluate where I stand.

I have not been crafting much at all - too busy with other household projects, mostly - but I went on some kind of mad shopping spree here during the 20% off sale.

THEN, I had a nice little anxiety attack about all the STUFF that was coming (even though I bought almost all of it when specific purposes in mind). I knew then that I had too much stuff for me!

So, adhesives only for me, and even then I might be set fine until Jan. We can - and should - do this!

I'm with you. I am planning on a very small defrost ($25) to enjoy CK convention this Friday. I finished my Christmas cards last weekend using my stash and plan to work on Halloween cards and decorations soon. It just doesn't seem to make the stash much smaller... And I turned on my Cricut for the first time in months. I've even packed a couple of bags of stuff for the lss garage sale - it would be nice to have a small store credit to cover crop costs. It's all good.

I am actually doing quite well staying frozen. Though there have been moments of strong temptation. Exclusive sept flair? You're killing me twopeas!

On the other hand, I have been using my mists to alter older paper and use the Heidi Swapp Color Magic paper I've been hoarding. I haven't used them yet to make layouts, but am extremely happy with the small face lift results. It definitely makes the paper seem fresh and new, without actually being either.

I totally agree with you Grant17 the flair, the new lines, and for me the 3 x 4 wood veneers here at Two Peas are tempting esp. when that's the 1st thing that flashes on the screen with you logon.

BUT, I must say, the commitment I've made to myself and DH far out weighs the temptation. Will those flairs, veneers, new PP really spice up my creativity, make my LOs look better. NOPE, I don't think so, because as long as the story is documented, the LO is complete and I used up more of my current stash, that's all that matters to me within this year of being frozen.

Next year there will be more pretty paper, more beautiful flair, more tempting embellies and host of fabulous items that will ohhhhh and ahhhh us just as much.

Stay on the wagon, hang in there. YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!

Treyaut, Yes! It is definitely a case of the "I wants" rather than the "I need" for me. Do I really need the exclusive sept flair? No. Why? Because I have barely touched the flair in my stash. Is it pretty? Oh yes. But there isn't anyjustification to buy. Changing my way of thinking has been important in staying frozen.

The frozen wagon hasn't been a smooth ride, but it is getting easier the longer I go without putting anything in my cart and ignoring the "last 48 hours" tab.

What are some tips/tricks that others are finding useful to stay frozen?

I just paid for my daughter's wedding. during the planning and making phase I did buy a "few" (translate: many) scrapbook supplies.

I am going to promise here today- that I will FREEZE my scrappy spending until Jan 1. I do have a lot of other goals/things to spend on since I put everything on hold until "after the wedding" so ---

The only thing I will allow myself to spend on will be paying my friend the rest of the money I owe her on the Expression I bought months ago, more adhesive, a few crops and that's IT!

In August I spent $200+ on CM's albums & page protectors as they are out of business. and I went to CK in Nashville- and spent about $100 ish there- with no scrappin time all summer!! I KNOW I will last until January- heck to be honest I could wait to buy anything for 10 years except adhesive...but let's be real... I know I will bow to temptation.

Thanks for the challenge! I CAN DO IT!

I am trying the "don't go crazy and overdo it" approach. I can't bring myself to be frozen, but I have cut other "extras" out - manicures, frozen drinks several times a week from Starbucks. I think it's about what gives you the most enjoyment - figuring that out then budgeting to make it work. I do have more scrapbooking supplies than I can say grace over, it's true. But for me, the shopping is part of the hobby if that makes sense. My DH is always jumping from hobby to hobby, investing money in supplies (welding, golf, hunting to name a few)... for me it's scrapbooking, so I am trying to be "even keeled" but don't think I want to be frozen.

I'm still frozen with just one relapse for a few things for one of my "get it done!" projects. I haven't bought anything this summer--not even the flair that keeps calling my name. I'm still giving myself until the end of this year to get as many unfinished projects done before buying my first PL supplies.

My strategy: I pulled all of my project kits into the middle of the floor. Propped a portable table over them. Now, every time that I walk into the room, my mission is clear--I have work to do, I have a goal to meet and literally have no room for more stuff. If I don't finish by the end of this year, that is perfectly fine with me. Either way, I win, because I will have used much of the stash I've collected for so long, and that is so freeing. Yaaay!

Thanks Andtyler for starting this thread! Thanks Treyaut for keeping us going! Thanks frozen Peas for your stories and encouragement. We're in this together. WE CAN DO THIS!

Oh, and hey, I'd like a frozen pea badge too.

How do you stay frozen though? I'd love to hear tips. I've unsubscribed to e-mails from the big box store but I pass the silly thing on the way home everyday so not sure it's helping that much. Now thinking I should unsubscribe from a couple other online stores so no temptation when they advertise sales. I know forcing myself to sit down and organize my stuff reminds me of how much stuff I have and then I feel guilty. Maybe I should do more of that. Christmas is coming so can't spend a lot of money on frivolous scrapbook supplies that I don't need. Please share your tips!

I find the best way to not want to shop is to organize what I have. Just going through the magnitude of supplies and considering the investment that I made - reminds me that I need to make a dent in what I have.

CoastalScrapper--don't feel guilty, just keep organizing so you'll know what you have and set yourself up for your own personal challenge to see how many things you can make without spending another dime. until whatever date you set for your freeze, and if you get inspired by the gallery or tutorials, just challenge yourself to only let it spur your next layout, not your next purchase. Keep reminding yourself that you have PLENTY to create with and use. hope this helps.

I fell off the wagon. the temptation of the flair and veneers got me. So I know now I need to get back up and try again. I have a savings goal to help keep me focused. I shouldn't need anything for quite a while, except a new trimmer blade, possibly adhesive.

I really like the "keep organizing" advice to keep from spending. That definitely helps so I will actually know what I have. I've also been reading a lot of articles about decluttering in general, to help put my shopping habit in perspective.

I totally understand the temptation from the big box stores, that is all I have in my area and I don't get to them often (which is one of the reasons why twopeas gets a lot of my scrapy money). Shopping with friends, they are always good about asking if we should make a stop even though they don't scrapbook themselves (and it takes me forever to go through the aisles and pick what I want, lol). The coupon emails are definitely something I should stop too.

Treyaut,

So glad for all the inspiration you are sending our way! It helps so much! I finally decided I needed to gather & organize not only my sb supplies but random pictures I printed thinking I was going to use it on a layout, then completely forget about it. In cleaning, I've come across so many wonderful stuff I own, yet every time there is a great sale, I WANT TO BUY! Your motivation/posting have kept me good the last few days and inspire me to use what I have. I'm going to try not to buy anything but the basics mentioned (adhesive, blades, page protectors) through the end of Nov....baby steps for me. . I'm wanting to buy frith & folic and the say cheese line, so I think every time I complete a layout, I'll pay myself a dollar to be used toward those items. Hopefully on Dec. 1, I'll have enough money to buy at least one of the items.

Thank goodness for this thread!

I actually forgot I was frozen, lol.

Went online yesterday and bought some vertical paper storage. Didn't really need it, but was organizing and decided I wanted it, so I bought it. And then I started thinking of all the other things I want to buy. So glad I found the thread before I clicked my mouse!

OK. Now that I've confessed, I will climb back into the freezer.

323 days to go. woot! woot! So I am going to Scrapbook Expo for a class my friend treated me to because she didnt want to go alone on 9/27/13. Being that I am frozen and she is paying for the class I will tag along. However, I already have my plan together. I am going empty handed with only my drivers license and $10 bill for food or if there's a sale on adhesive.

Coastalscrapper - you asked for tips. I dont really have any tips. I just know that I dont need it all, cant afford it all and certainly cant justify it all. What keeps me motivated is knowing that I cannot justify buying another scrappy product when I haven't even put a huge enough dent in my current stash. I look around my scrapbook room and think "what in the world was I thinking and doing when I purchased all of this stuff". I pray about it, I pray about it daily, I pray for strength, discipline, courage, and obedience to stay true to my word and my commitment. I am treating it like a FAST - and the sacrifice is freeing, motivating, and such an exemplary feeling. That feeling outweighs the "fix" I get from buying scrappy goodies that I don't need at this time. Again, this is just how I'm approaching it.

My fellow frozen peas I pray you are finding the strength and will as well. I pray you find joy in the current product you now have and that you will fall in love with it all again. And I pray if you should fall off the "frozen" wagon that guilt won't set in; just the strength to get back on again and take it from there.

WE CAN DO THIS!!! Oh and again....323 days to go for me. Yay baby!!!

Organizing REALLY helps! Tiffany Spaulding just started a FREE six week get organized challenge. You can find it on livestream. Totally makes you think about the next purchase. I watch her recorded last series that you can find in the same place and have been "frozen" for 40 days!

I've been frozen from online shopping since June. I am part of a kit club, but that expires in one month. I've been doing some shopping at Michael's and such, but that will stop NOW.

I like the idea of unsubscribing from all the emails. I think I'll even delete my apps off my phone. I have so many wonderful products in my stash, I really don't need anything else.

I'm hoping to stay frozen until January 1st.

I am primarily a knitter before I am a scrapbooker. In a lot of the "coldsheep" forums, people do a "mild merino" version of completely going cold turkey. For every few skeins of yarn they use up, they allow themselves to buy one skein.

This may be a way to help those who don't want to go completely frozen. For every two packages of veneer you kill, you're allowed to buy one package of flair. Something along those lines.

I will add that people who go completely cold sheep tend to be the most successful at reducing their stash.

Hope that helps!
