Who has a Canon Selphy 900 - the wireless one? And what do you upload your photos to it with? I have a couple of different cameras I will be using, but I also have an Android phone I would like to use. I am looking at a portable printer and I have read some good reviews and some not so good reviews on this one. What do you think of it?

Treyaut - what kind of phone do you have? Android or iphone?

Also,, I have read that the ink carts and paper are only sold together, but one runs out before the other? True or false?

It's not necessarily ink. It is a cartridge with a film coating in it. Only enough for the paper that comes with it. Mine always run out together.

Our wireless router is crap in this house, so I just connect it to my computer with a USB cable like anything else (printer, Cameo, etc). I am always putting my photos on my computer anyway, so I print everything using the computer software that it comes with. I've never found a need to print from my phone anyway, just seems weird to me. My computer screen is much bigger.

Edit: that's false on the ink. What they do is they sell you the right amount of paper to go with the right amount of "ink" in the cartridge. Once your paper runs out, so does your cartridge. The thing is, the paper is doled out in packages of a certain number of sheets (I think it's 18, it doesn't really matter though). There's three packages of paper for each one cartridge. ANY package you buy (I buy the big 108 print packs) will come with this ratio, so there's no measuring or one running out before the other, that kind of thing. The idea is that they don't want you touching the paper, or having the paper lay open because if you get anything on it it will mess up the photo quality.

I've been really interested in this printer, too. Can you print pics from an ipad mini? And it does have an sd card slot, right? Thanks!

You can get $30 off the cp 900 using the code CP713 via the Canon website until August 15th. Shipping is free. Ordered one the other night and it is already on its way!

Thanks for sharing the code - really thinking about getting one since I've been on the fence. However, the reviews on the Canon site were not that great.

Has anyone compared the Selphy to the Epson PictureMate series? DPReview.com shows that they each have some positives and negatives. Anyone go w/an Epson and have any insight?

I my Selphy. I've printed from ipad, iPhone and a SD card. I prefer it over portable
Epson and HP printers that I own. The cartridge and paper seem to run out at the same time.

Good luck with your decision.

Another vote for the Selphy 900. I bought mine last fall and LOOOOVE it. Use it with my iPhone and iPad. The paper and carts run out at the same time for me. You get two 18 count paper packs to one cart. I buy the 108 pic box on Amazon for around $30.

Before you get it, I can't remember is this was a problem for Android based users, make sure you can install the Canon iEPP app on your phone, that is what you will use to print wirelessly.

I really love mine. I bought mine in February and I usually just use it with my iPhone but I've used my SD card and my iPad mini. This is really why I have kept current with PL- I just print what I want . I always order those big packs from amazon and I haven't had an issue with the cartridge running out first. They always run out together .

Another thing that's been great about it- I have moved this little guy twice since I bought it ( temporary housing and then our house) and it picked up the signal and worked right away.

I also use the app Picjointer ( I don't know if this is available on Android) to get more than one picture on the page .

I use the Canon app to print from my iPhone.

I print to the Canon Selphy right from my laptop too. The Selphy shows up in the printer list.

Also,, I have read that the ink carts and paper are only sold together, but one runs out before the other? True or false?

False. There are exactly enough sheets to print with the 'ink' cartridge. Each photo passes through the printer 4 times to add the color and protective clear coat.

Love my Selphy! It works great with my phone and I actually print pictures now and send them to people, which they love - grandparents, great-grandparents esp. It's so small and fast!

To answer your question about using an android phone, I used my selphy with my android phone with no problems. There's an app you need but I had no issues.

Did I see on another thread that you can't crop the photos printed from the Selphy? Is this because of the printing process?

Actually, the ink will run out before the paper if you turn the machine on and then off before you print anything. Each time you turn the machine on it "loads" the ink.

I am curious as to why they chose to have a separate cartridge with the dyes instead of layering them on the paper? The other dye sublimation printers imbed the "ink" crystals in the paper and then use ink to change the color on the paper. Which solves the problem of the one running out before the other.

One does *not* run out before the other. Ink cartridge and paper run out at the exact same time.

I haven't had any problems cropping the photos either. It crops just like regular photos.

That's right - I had heard it is not compatible with Windows 8!! Totally forgot about that. Since I am in the market for a new laptop, that is a big problem.

I'm embarrassed to say that I purchased one about 2 months ago and I haven't broken it out of the box yet. I have the Epson R2000 so I mainly use that but bought the printer to use with my Android phone. I will open it, I will open it, I will open it.

"One does *not* run out before the other. Ink cartridge and paper run out at the exact same time."

Sorry, but that isn't true. I've had my ink run out before my paper and I've read reviews on Amazon about people running out of one before the other.

Got mine yesterday and was able to print (wirelessly) from my old Android phone as well as my Nexus tablet. Really loving the print quality so far, love how small it is, love that I can print from so many different options ( SD card, USB etc.)

I use a 4, husband a 5. Haven't tried it with ipad but it should work.

My Selphy has been a favorite purchase, so easy to use.

My regular canon printer can print from all of those wirelessly too with or without app. But the canon app adds some features like quality and paper size.

I've also had ink run out before paper. If you lose your wireless connection and it stops the printing process, you will run of ink first.

I just saw on the Canon USA web site that if you buy three of the filler ink and paper packs (that do 108 prints each) for this printer, you get the printer at 85% off -- or only $15. I think the three packs ($38 each) plus the $15 machine came out to about $129 with free shipping (there's a labor day coupon). Looks like the deal ends today. Wish I had more time to think about it...

If I bought the same thing on amazon -- $77 for the machine and $30X3 refill packs the total is $167.

Amazon's price on the Selphy seems to fluctuate. When I was finally ready to pull the trigger in August it went back up to $99. Then I got the code to use on the Canon website and it was way cheaper. Of course, Amazon's price dropped back down again the next week! So be patient!

I love it! I had the previous version and upgraded when they came out with the 900. I've used it to print from my PC, iPhone, iPad with no problems. I've never had the ink run out before the paper, but I have had the paper run out before the ink and start in on a new pack.

I went through two Picturemates before I made the switch to the Canon Selphy 900. Even if it breaks tomorrow, it was worth the change. My Picturemates printed nicely in the beginning and each one worsened with age, to the point where I found the ink clogs, etc. to be more trouble than they were worth.

I really like the wireless feature with this little printer and that's pretty much the only way I print. Also I did have to change a setting or two to get the brightness and saturation just the way I wanted. No problems since and it was very easy to accomplish.

Good luck with your decision.

I'm on the fence between the Selphy & the Charm...I big thing I heard was the Selphy doesn't print true 4x6 prints, she are slightly smaller. Can anyone validate this, is it true?
