do you buy it for a specific purpose? Like a specific set of photos that you have, or something that's coming up?

Or do you just buy it because you like it, and assume you'll find a use for it in the future?

Or some of both?

I buy because I like the collections/pieces and have no idea what they'll be used for.
But, if I'm getting ready to work on a project and none of the papers I have look right, then I'll shop for what I think might work, knowing which photos I'll be using.

A little bit of both. I am more inclined to buy a collection if I can already see a use for it, but sometimes I love something so much that I purchase it and hope that I will find a way to use it later on!

Over time I have begun to see what types of patterns and colors I use most and which ones just sit on the shelf looking pretty. I tend to buy collections that I know I will use in the near future, but I rarely have a specific set of photos in mind, except for holiday related theme items.

There have been many items I have resisted buying because I know I won't use them. Most overlays and transparency papers I absolutely love, but never use them so I won't allow myself to buy them.

A little of both.

If a collection is not overly themed, I will buy it just because I like it and assume I will find a use for it later. I do this even for collections that are themed but have B side papers that are pretty generic.

If it is a very themed collection (example: Christmas collection in which every single sheet screams "holidays" I will only buy it if I know I have a use for it.

I know what kinds of prints I use most often so I will buy those without specific projects in mind.

When I used to shop at my LSS, I would take the photos with me and select paper and embellies for each specific layout I had in mind. It worked well. Now that I shop online, it's not quite so easy to do that way, but I usually have a group of pics in mind when I shop.

Also, I have been doing family tree scrapbooks for my kids and the each family group is scrapped using a similar colour scheme (since the pics are black and white no need to worry about matching colours up), so I tend to shop that way.

I used to just buy it because I liked it. But after watching Glitter Girl and Shimelle videos for a year I understand my scrapping style a little better.

Now I buy what I am likely to use because I know what types of patterns and colors I like to work with. I dont usually have a specific project in mind.

But it does happen that the new Glitz Horse paper totally fits the color scheme I chose for a horse album I am making for my niece. So I will be picking that one up with a specific purpose.

I buy some stuff because I like it and know it should be easy to use and make sure I have embellishments that will go with it.

More theme stuff such as beach travel Halloween Christmas I will try to limit based on planned use age so that I don't go over board and have it for years to come

Mostly because I like it, hence my ridiculous stash. I am trying to be more conscious of my purchases based on the types of pictures I take so I can give my new purchases a fighting chance of getting on a layout.

I buy what I like and know I will use. I know my style well enough that I know what works and what doesn't. Themed/holiday stuff I only buy for a project. So I am out of Halloween paper I'll buy some, if I still have enough I'll use those. I only make one Halloween LO a year, I don't need a collection for it, lol.

I buy what I love....I really know what I like and when I see it, I usually buy it!
I don't very often buy with a purpose in mind....I just buy a variety of papers that I really, really like....

I buy because I like pretty scrapbooking stuff, and I really have a hard time saying no. I'm a chronological scrapper, so I don't really make purchases with certain themes or layouts in mind. If I like it, it most likely will hop into my shopping card, online or otherwise, LOL.

Most of the time I buy because I like it, sometimes though I do see a line and have the perfect photo in mind. Back when I first started scrapping I would enter stores with photos in hand and match things up, these days I just buy pretty paper.

I buy what I like, sometimes the collection packs because they are cheaper and I can use the leftovers to make cards or boxes/projects.

I buy what I like. I used to buy everything and anything but now I know my style, my colors, my stash so I am more picky now.

I have a daughter and step-daughter that use up all my old stuff so nothing goes to waste. If I don't like it anymore, they will use it.

I may have specific photos but more than likely I'm looking for things that I know will match the photos we are likely to take. For example, in the winter my husband and I wear a lot of red and blue so last fall I got Simple Stories Summer Fresh for winter use because it had denim, red, green and other colors that fit us. I got a lot of use out of it.

Just because I like it. I've gotten pretty good at knowing the kinds of papers that I like to use, so I buy very few collection packs. I still have way too much paper, but at least it's not because I don't like it.

I know what types of products I use, so I buy things I like in those products. For example, I never buy a whole collection, because I know I'll never use it all and I like to mix lines and manufacturers

Usually because it's pretty. I've been trying to be better about having a set of pics, or at least type of pics, but I figure I can always use any paper for cards, so I might as well make myself happy with my purchases

do you buy it for a specific purpose? Like a specific set of photos that you have, or something that's coming up?

Or do you just buy it because you like it, and assume you'll find a use for it in the future?

Some of both.

Today, for instance, I bought some new My Mind's Eye cut apart journaling cards. I will put those in my Project Life stash and when I want to use that color scheme, I'll have them. I just loved the way they looked so I bought them.

But I also bought a ton of the new Simple Stories Say Cheese line specifically for my 2011 Disney album I'm about to start and also some of the new school line from Simple Stories to use on my daughter's school album I started 8 years ago and only did two years of.

I also bought some page protectors I want to use right away and some I'll put in the back of my album just to have on hand.

I just purged HALF OF MY PAPER and TONS of embellishments and stamps, etc. - a big part of my stash so I might splurge on a couple sheets of paper just 'cause I love it but for the most part - I'm really, really trying to stick with what I know I will use.

Now that I'm doing Project Life, I want to acquire some smaller letter stickers so I bought a sheet of those and I just seem to know what product I use more now so I only allow myself to buy that.

I think I've heard Noell from Paperclipping say this....I can see product now that I love and appreciate it for the beauty of it but I don't feel the need to own it because I know I won't use it. And a lot of the time, I already own something similar so that alone keeps me from buying it.

I just purge pretty much every sheet of single sided, thinner paper and I have about $600 worth of paper to sell so it's hard to go out and buy more!!!!!

Great question!

I little of both but these days I'd say it leans more towards 'I just like it', which then leads into using it *because* I like it.

I don't tend to think of myself as a theme-scrapper so I don't go out looking for papers that will match my stories (per se). But I do know my style - the colours I'm attracted to, the patterns I use repeatedly, etc. - so if there's a collection that uses those colours, patterns, designs a lot, I know it will get used and I buy it.

I buy it because I like it. I almost never think about which photos I'm going to use when I'm picking out collections, but I can always find something that works in the many unscrapped years of photos I have!

I buy because I like the paper, however it has to go along with my photos. This summer I bough a lot of brighter paper in blues, greens, yellow and orange because I knew I would be taking a lot of beach photos. I also have 4 boys so of course those are always great colors for a male page. I did mix in a little pink just for me.

Usually, I buy because I like it. There are occasional times when I buy something themey (not a whole collection, but a piece or two or three) that I have something in particular in mind.

I either buy with photos or stamps in mind. Since I use a lot of image stamps for my cards I can get away with saying "well, I did buy that whole line of summer stamps" and be able to pick up some summer papers, even though IRL I don't do anything that would require that theme. Same goes for Christmas, and sometimes Halloween. I don't get pictures from those events, but I do have image stamps I can use on cards.

Other than that I buy colours and patterns I know I'll use. I'll look through and go "that'll be a good background" or pick the blues and greens I gravitate to cos there's three boys in this house (two with four legs). Sometimes if I'm feeling in a pretty mood I'll make sure I take more pictures of the cat, cos she's a girl and she's brown, she goes with everything.

I usually buy it if/because I love it, but I try not to buy too much themed paper because it's what sits on the shelf the longest for me. After I decide to buy something, I immediately start thinking of how I want to use it.
