Thirty One Girl
|Posted: 9/17/2013 10:07:40 PM|I know I can't. And what I did today is return the two kits I bought. It's not for me.
For the following reasons;
1. Too expensive
2. Too many cards of same design
3. Not liking the colors as much as all these other companies producing products
I returned my kits to Michaels and found these kits ( me and m big idea pocket pages, 1. Months of the year, 2. School) . and I paid $2.50 for 72 cards and its all 12 months of the year. Well worth my $2.50. Very happy with y decision.
Sorry I can't post pictures. Posting from iPad.

That way I only have to buy 2 of each card. I can use the front and back and not have any repeats. I also make my own cards, or embellish kit cards.

I've often wondered about that. I bought Jade on HSN when it was the special value. I scrapped over 200 pages of a vacation and I have about half the cards left.

I think it would definitely be a challenge!
That's why I like the Mini kits and Theme kits that are coming out. I have a few of the large kits and I've sold or traded about 2/3 of each. It's a great way to get a mixture of cards for the same price. I also agree about flipping them over.
I have most of the MAMBI and Sn@p cards too. I mostly do pocket-page scrapping these days and very few 'regular' layouts. I love having a large selection of cards and can always find just the right one for what I'm working on.

I could not, I have bought 2 and sold shares off as I get bored, I think that is why I buy monthly kits, this way it is all different.
I do buy mini kits and will use them up.

I'm sure I wouldn't be able to but I share mine with DD and DGD and recently DS. So we each have some of each kit.
We've been using them for everything from cards, and layouts to gift wrapping.

Oh, thank you for posting this. I completely agree with you. And since I have a huge stash of scrapbooking supplies already, I can't see myself spending money on a whole kit.
I bought some American Crafts pocket page protectors (which I do like better than the Becky Higgins -- although I have some of those as well). And, I buy the album on sale (I heard Michael's has them on sale for $7.99 this week so I need to get one for next year.
It's a great system, and I would say that the flexibility of it is why it is so popular. So glad that you had the courage to do the right thing for you.

I've only bought 1 core kit and I did split that with someone else. I also bought 2 partial kits off of eBay and am very happy with the amount I received for the price. I could never get through and entire core kit without getting bored of it.
Can't wait for the theme packs to come out. I think this was a fabulous idea.

Yes I did using it for P365. it was the Original cherry kit. The kit that Becky originally made after the very first Kit of the Month P365.
But yes, I used the entire kit, just using the kit to take a picture everyday and journal everyday. I really love looking back at that album. I think that was in 2008 or 2009.

I think a specific project that has an end date, like what sunnychick did, would be the only way I could use a whole PL kit.
Glad you found something that works better for you at such a great price!

I used the entire kit in 2011. Made my own and used the October Afternoon Sidewalk line for the whole year in 2012. Decided I wanted variety and went to making my own and buying Elles Studio and mixing the blush core this year and decided the other day. I am going back to just 1 kit next year. I still scrapbook traditionally and I have found that adds enough variety to my album and it is just to much to decide each week what I am going to do and spend the time doing it. I get more enjoyment creatively from traditional scrapbooking but love the amount of memories and the format of Project Life. So I have found the best way to do both is a core kit for the year and traditional scrapbooking mixed in.
I will say that this year when I bought Blush I did do a trade for some of the midnight collection on here and that was nice to try out another collection. I think that might be the best idea for someone who gets bored.

Great post - I think you can probably come close to using up one core kit if you only used that kit and did a daily or weekly style PL project. But I think most people either don't keep up with PL in that way or get bored with using just the core kit. But I agree cutting the core kit in half and lowering the price would be great

I bought the Blush kit and 5th and Frolic kit. I am planning to trade most of my cards or sell them. Unfortunatly PL is that big in Holland yet so i am trying to convince people to start so i can start trading with them. i also use the cards for layouts and mini albums so i think i will get a good use out of them.

This is why I only stalked PL core kits for years. For me, though, at M's with the coupon, my Honey kit was $15 and I don't feel bad if I don't use the whole thing.
That being said, I love the colors of the Honey kit, so I find myself reaching for those cards first whenever I'm doing a layout before I look at any of the rest of my supplies.
|Posted: 9/18/2013 8:02:48 AM|I have! Of course, that was back when they only offered two kits per year and no other companies were making the PL sized cards yet. Now, we tend to want to use a variety because it is available....and then our stash grows and becomes harder to use up. But even after trying PL a variety of ways, I still don't feel like there is a better product to streamline the process than the PL core kit. It makes it quick, easy, and beautiful!

I had no experience with BH's PL until I bought the Blush kit and I don't understand why there are so many duplicate cards. I will probably get flamed for this, but it seems lazy and cheap to not give more varied designs.

|Posted: 9/18/2013 8:18:17 AM|Between coupons and splitting most of the packs with a friend, I still have a HUGE selection of cards. But, it didn't cost me too much in the end, and I like having the options.
I also have a lot of the Mambi sets, and some others as well. More than I'll ever be able to use, I'm sure...but I'll try!

@Just Me the Pea Becky makes the core kit to fit her original system, which is cards in the middle and 4x6 photos. If you follow her system and use the kit, you only see the same card once per month, which isn't a lot. People mix it up and are getting more artistic and it doesn't match with the original intent of the kit, which is why there seem to be too many of one card.

The full kits I bought I sold 2/3s of as well or traded for other partial kits I wanted. I think I have a dozen or so partial PL kits now and am still waiting for the new mini ones from BH to come out as well as SS.

|Posted: 9/18/2013 8:54:59 AM|The only time I ever even came close to using an entire kit was back in 2010. I tried to take a photo a day and journal, etc. That was SO NOT FOR ME. From that year on I've gone back to mostly event scrapbooking with my PL type supplies and of course the kits just keep piling up because I keep shopping.

I used the full kit the year I did a photo each day. I love that album and it was so easy, but I was sick of the colors by the end of the year.

|Posted: 9/18/2013 11:00:56 AM|I find the cards really useful for other things, too, especially the ones I don't love as much and want to use in my PL. For the price, especially using a coupon, I don't feel bad about repurposing them as:
1. Daily to-do lists - one 3x4 card is the perfect size for me
2. Thank you notes in the packages going out to my Etsy customers
3. Gift messages in my Etsy packages (I use my inkjet printer to print these, when a customer wants me to send a gift to someone else.)
4. Note to my daughter in her lunchbag
5. Shopping list - super easy to throw in my purse and since it's heavier than a post-it, it doesn't get trashed while I'm running errands
6. Extra "paper" when I want to write a longer note to someone than will fit in a card.
Hope that helps

Well I just ordered one for a mini album and I know I won't use it all, and it's pink and I don't have much girl pages since I have 3 grandsons so definitely know I have to think about selling the rest.
I like those MABMI ones.
My other kit I am pretty sure I will use most of and I love that they are dbl sided so you can just use the one side and and hide the other side with whatever. So far I have about 5 dbl page spreads and haven't even come close to duplicating yet.
I also plan to use these leftovers on my reg sb pages. But ITA..they seem to be $.

Perhaps because I'm a scrapper who uses the cards exclusively on traditional 12x12 layouts (& occasionally incorporates 8.5x11 & divided page protectors solely for extra photos/memorabilia), I dislike the repetitive designs.
...it seems lazy and cheap to not give more varied designs.

I don't mind some repetition on the cards as they are doubled-sided. Like patterned paper, sometimes I like both sides. But I agree so many duplicate cards are hard to use when you are not doing PL exclusively. I use them on regular pages and occasional PL-style/page protector layouts. I would like the core kits more if they offered a mini version of each one as well.

For those of you that buy partial kits- where do you buy/sell them? I have two kits I'd like to sell pieces of. I've found I'm getting bored of using the same cards over and over again. I'd like a little more variety to my pages.

Some Peas sell them here on the FSOT board, FB yard sale groups, and I sold mine at an LSS yard sale.
