I "needed" to stop in at Michaels today for some adhesive and trimmer blades (and I was secretly hoping they would have the new PL mini kits... they did not). I was browsing the PL aisle and I noticed the PL page protectors are BOGO, so I throw two multi packs into my cart. They seemed awfully light... too light. I look a little more closely, and I was pretty sure the packages were empty. Sure enough, when I open up a corner and look between the cardboard and the top paper, the package is empty of page protectors. I looked at my other pack. Also empty. I look at all the multi packs on the shelf, and of the 10 packs available, 7 were empty, 1 only had two 4x6 protectors, and two were complete packs.
The packages didn't look like they had been opened (perfectly sealed). I ended up calling over an employee and showing her the empty packages. She thinks it's a manufacturing error because they were perfect packages & didn't look like someone had opened them, taken out the protectors, then sealed them back up perfectly. But we will never know. She cleared the shelf of all PL page protectors to check them and make sure the packs with single designs didn't have the same issues (I didn't check those). I explained that I opened up several to make sure I was getting 12 page protectors, and she said that was fine. I was shocked... another AC screw up? Or simply theft? What do you think?

At one time Becky was proud that she was having the PL stuff made in the USA but I guess it was cheaper to have it made in China. I don't know if it is growing too fast or American Crafts are just screwups but there seems to be so many errors. I bought a baby girl mini kit and the cards looked like they had been stomped on, I even saw a footprint on one.

Wow, it sure is a good thing that you checked them. That is really strange.

It is a good think you noticed! I wonder how many other customers go them home only to discover it then!

I think that PL had always been made in China. That was always the delay of getting the product into the country and onto Amazon.
But it seems like the factories that AC uses has more QC issues.

I'm more inclined to think it was theft.

I have been using Project Life since 2010 and it was made in China the 1st year (maybe 2) and then Becky Higgins really wanted to have it made in the USA, unfortunately this skyrocketed the costs for her and the process was difficult and time consuming. Now they're made by American Crafts and I am sort of torn on it, while I personally haven't had any issues with it, I have seen a lot of people reporting issues with the products. Granted, they are producing more than ever before so there is bound to be SOME issues along the way. Empty boxes though, that's a huge oops. Good thing you caught it.
|Posted: 10/4/2013 12:23:40 PM|I bought some yesterday so I checked them just now to be sure mine were in there! They are (whew!) but it's really easy to open the packages so that you can't tell they've been tampered with. When I opened the bottom up, the adhesive that holds it down doesn't tear or otherwise look blemished. It would be pretty easy to open them, take them out, and then seal them up again I'm going with theft too.

My first thought is theft, someone probably bought 4 and loaded them up extra heavy..it wouldn't be that hard to do.
I think if they were a manuf error we would have been hearing about it long before this..these things tend to effect more than just 7 or 8 packs.

I'm another one that thinks it was theft rather than a manufacturing error.

You guys are probably right... someone decided to steal a few dozen page protectors. Which is really unfortunate. I hope no one purchased an empty package before they were removed from the shelves.

I wonder if my local M's has started carrying PL stuff, because I have never seen it in there.
Last time I went to ACMoore it was the same old, same old.

Someone could have bought them, taken the pages out and returned them. I doubt the clerk would have noticed the packs were empty.
