A friend of mine started a FB group for Brene Brown's art journaling class based on her book, "The Gifts of Imperfection". Here is a link to the class: The Gifts Of Imperfection

Is anyone thinking of taking this class or signed up already?

I am signed up. Starts on my birthday so hope that is a sign of good things to come. I have taken other classes with her and they were great.

Glad to know this, BeckyK. I signed up, but do not know what to expect. Never created an art journal before! Maybe we can start a thread here and share our thoughts and work.

The course sounds very intriguing. I will have to look into it more.

A friend of mine started a FB group of her own. I will have to see if there is a public FB group associated with this course.

ETA: I did not find an official group. Maybe you can start one of your own, or I can ask my friend if she would be willing to send an invite to you for our FB group. (Not sure how that works, though.)

I've been thinking about signing up. I am wondering who her guests artists will be... It wouldn't surprise me if Ali Edwards was one.

I did read that Ali Edwards is part of the class. If I remember correctly Kelly Rae Roberts is part of the class, too.

If you guys follow Ali's blog she's already talked about how she flew out to her place and filmed a segment for the course. Same as Kelly Rae. Would love to take this course but I just don't have the time or money right now.. maybe it will still be available when Santa arrives..

I read her book and thought it was good. Basically you have to be deliberate in your choices everyday. I admit to being intrigued when Oprah did her Soul for Sunday episodes. So much of it went over my head and I could not relate to. The part I think I liked the best was the Vowel list (not sure what she called it).

A-Have I been *A*bstinent today (However you define that-I find it a little more challenging when it comes to things like food, work, and the computer.)

E- Have I *E*xercised today?

I-What have *I* done for myself today?

O- What have I done for *O*thers today?

U- Am I holding on to *U*nexpressed emotions today?

While I enjoyed the book, not sure I would want to take it further. Not sure how to explain it, maybe because I've never been interested in art journaling.

If I could afford it, I would definitely want to take the class. I have read her book and loved it. I need to get it out and read it again, but have no idea where I put it.

According to the FB page the information is only online until December. Really??? Unless I am reading that wrong?! $70 for a class and it's during the BUSIEST time of the year and you can only view the information for two months? I suggested they take a cue from other websites who often time leave their classes up indefinitely and/or at LEAST a year...

I am bumping up an old thread to see if anyone took this class. They are repeating it and I am considering taking it but I am looking for feedback from people who are in this first session.

I just read that they are restarting this class in January and adding a part 2. Would love to hear from students of the first course.

LOL thanks for the info about part two. With all the freaky trolls lately I half expected this to be someone hawking Brene Brown pen sets, sweatshirts or something..

Nope. Not hawking pens or sweatshirts. I will admit I have read Brene's books and loved them. I got the email for the course repeating in January and then a part two and I am so close to signing up but was looking for feedback and thought some peas might have done the first round.

KC I'm glad you brought it up, I didn't know there was a part two and am interested in reviews too.

I hope you know I wasn't accusing you of anything with my silly joke.

I am taking the class right now and am enjoying it. BUT if you want to learn art journaling techniques etc, that is NOT what this class is about. The class follows the structure of the guideposts in the Gifts of Imperfection book. Part 1 has guideposts 1 thru 5, Part 2 will have 6 thru 10. There are art journaling assignments but they are topic based, not artsy technique based. Ali Edwards was the guest for week 5. Again - I am really enjoying it for personal growth. The only complaint I have is that I will only have access for two weeks after class ends - until midnight Dec 23rd. I am spoiled by the 'forever access' for my scrapping classes!

Once I saw it was affiliated with Oprah, I won't be doing it. I'm not a fan of the Oprah factory and am a bit sad that Brene Brown is now part of that. I guess a girl's gotta make some money!

For those who are doing it, I'm sure it will be a good class. Hope you enjoy it!

If you want a technique class to get going with Art Journaling there is one from Julie Fei Fan Balzer. This focuses on the fun artsy techniques parts; it is not about self-discovery etc. in terms of the journaling. It was fun using all my supplies of paints, mists, stencils, stains, stamps, inks etc. I am pretty sure it is forever access too.

Anon - no I didn't think that at all. I don't post much but I read a lot so I was trying to work my comment in a way that would show I was really looking for feedback and not a troll.

I signed up for the class already. I love Brene's work so much that I am going to give it a try.

Sophism ins thanks for the link on the other class. It looks perfect for me!!
