I ordered a package of the Studio Calico Magical confetti cards and received them this week. Upon opening them up to look at them, one of them is missing the cut out phrase that should be on it. I.E. it should say "Happy Merry Everything" and instead its a just a plain strip of paper.

I contacted SC and sent a picture asking if they could swap my pack out for a non-defective one. Their reply was that it wasn't defective. They had simply advertised the wrong photo on their website and the packaging. This is how it should be.

To make things worse I can return but they are unwilling to give me my money back in anything other then a store credit and they won't pay shipping? WTF?

When you say it is a plain strip of paper... do you mean it is just a piece of plain coloured paper, with no text or anything printed on it? Or it has the sentiment printed on it, but the sentiment isn't cut out?

It is really disappointing and frustrating to order something based on computer mock-up images, and then find out the real product looks different.

I always wonder: does this happen in other hobbies/industries as often as it does in scrapbooking? Because it seems like every line by every company has some sort of "ooops!" error that could and should be easily rectified -- either by providing consumers with the correct image before sale or with replacing the defective/misrepresented item or refunding if the customer isn't happy.

Yes, it is just a plain strip of red paper. No sentiment as all.

I think it is more irritating because they keep telling me I received the correct product. Umm...no. Even the packaging shows something different!

Looks then like all the cards have some sort of sentiment except that one? That seems strange -- especially when they do show a sentiment on all the cards on the images of the packaging I found.

That's unbelievable! In what other industry could a company even *think* to misadvertise a product and get away with it?

Have you tried contacting American Crafts since they handle the production of the products? I would maybe contact them and explain what SC said...Good Luck.

and yet.... people continue to buy their stuff and put up with the service (or lack of)... just dont' get it.... I don't care how many emails they send me about buy one get one kit free for subscriptions I REFUSE to sign up because of all the bad rap i read here. There are plenty of people selling their stuff on FB pages and here at 2Peas board so if I can get something there I will. If not, I'll survive.

You need to tell them that is fraud and misrepresentation of a product. Call them on the phone and not via email.

We'll, who on earth would package a strip of red paper, and expect someone to be happy with that? hasn't that entered their heads?! How stupid.

They do know we could just cut a strip of red paper if we wanted it, right?

Maybe start a ticket here at two peas to verify what theirs looks like. I'm sure they wouldn't want to sell product that was misrepresented.

What cracks me up is the hypocrisy on the SC message boards when people are upset at the latest American Crafts/HSN PL auto ship catastrophe and yet they pile all over a poor poster who dares to criticize SC.

Why is it SC seems to think they can repeatedly operate under a different standard of customer satisfaction and basically tell scrappers to "Suck it up, Buttercup"???

I, for one, will never deal with them again. I cancelled my kit sub about 3 months ago and still they have been billing me, but not sending the kit. All they were willing to do is give me store credit, but their store is just full of crap! Very annoyed with them and no matter how much I like their produce, I won't be buying from them again.

THis has nothing to do with SC packing products wrong/gipping customers/cheaping out. Its all American Craft! AC has screwed up repeatedly with the last CHA releases of ALL LINES. Just read 2ps board. Gold doilies ring a bell???

I just noticed this on the Bluemoon scrapbooking blog today. It shows the Merry Everything on the card.

AC has had problems across the board this CHA. While I think SC would benefit from handling this better; it's ultimately on American Crafts to fix.

Characterfan, the card that is incorrect is the one with the red strip. The red strip should have the phrase "Merry Happy Everything" cut out of it. The rest of the cards are correct. If you Google you can see the image of what should have been included.

I cancelled a few months ago, and did so with a heavy heart as we're getting married next month and are trying to buy a house.
The people at studio calico were great.
The company, was not so much in my experience.
I basically had to threaten to file a complaint with the better business bureau before they took my 'please cancel my subscription on this date (date)' seriously.
I was told at one point that it would be too much of a hassle for me to lose such great deals and wonderful kits--so they would just do me a favor and continue the subs and do better in the future (I am paraphrasing).

I shop other places now. Will occasionally buy some cut files from them (I just got a cameo, LOL)--but made sure to download and backup everything I purchased from them.

The censorship on that board is crazy.
And, leaving SC subs means more money (at a better discount) for me at twopeas!

My card is blank too but this isn't sc its AC they manufactor the products for sc.. They have had there share of mess ups this round of CHA releases but IMO AC did a good job at replacing my products and awesome CS! I would contact them.. I always hear complaints about sc and I know I'm gonna get hell for even saying this but..

I have had nothing but great CS and great experciance with sc.. I can name a few times that sc has went above and beyond any expectations to make me happy or rectify the situation.. I once placed an order for a class kit and I guess they must have sold out when I did instead of the normal refund which I would expect because it happens all the time they created another kit for me and sent me another class kit for free.. To me that's great CS and that's not the only experience I have had for me to say they have been good to me! Maybe I have just been in the minority and have been lucky but I'm not jumping on the "hating sc train" anytime soon

I cancelled mine a few days ago no problem. I said in my initial letter that I was certain I wanted to cancel and that I had fulfilled the 6 months and I got a reply that it was done and it shows as cancelled in my account panel.

Then I turned around and bought the December Daily kit -- doh!

One weird thing was that I couldn't get it to let me pay via PayPal until AFTER I'd cancelled.

I don't buy any SC products unless they are at the LSS and the local discount craft store. I have heard too many horror stories and I don't want to support a company that time over time provides horrible service to it's customers.

Well, that is good to know. That is the only card I really liked. I will not be ordering that set. That being said, I still like SC products. But. I would be irritated if I really wanted that sentiment and it did not have it on the card. I would def get my store credit and buy something else that would make me happier

I view this as AC(manufactoring) fault not SC.

While I agree that AC manufactured the faulty product, SC sold it. IMO, SC should do something to rectify the issue, and they should go back to AC for a remedy.

And I have seen plenty of other threads were people were upset with products esp. thickers and 99% of people always say to contact AC they will take care of you and replace their products they make, so I find this issue no different.

That's true, and a good point. I guess for me though, when I buy something and have a problem with it, I go back to the store I purchased it from, and I would go to SC, not AC. And if it was just as simple as calling AC, I'd think SC would say that instead of "oh well."

But, that's just me.

Update...

Studio Calico is adament that there is nothing wrong with the cards. They are still only offering an in store credit if I pay the shipping to return the cards.

I asked them to cancel my PL subscription and so far they have asked 2 times whether I actually wanted to cancel. I sent another email this morning asking them to cancel it effective today, and that I would not ask again.

I have emailed American Crafts. Hopefully as they manufacture the product they will be able to offer a better solution.

I completely agree that if I receive a defective product I contact or return to the store where I bought it from. SC customer service is either feast or famine. It seems to me that the people that praise them for their "excellent" customer service are either never really had an issue, or had an issue when Lorie was still there. They also have a well documented history of treating customers with the same issue radically differently. Two customers will be missing the same item from their kits and one customer will get it sent out right away and get extras with it, while the other is told it will ship with their next kit (and told that NO ONE ever gets their missing items sent out right away, everyone has to wait) with no extras. It is just crazy.

I am not at all surprised they are asking you to return the item, which is ridiculous, but have you offered to send them a picture and see if that will work instead? It amazes me that they will not just take the hit on the 4.00 or whatever those tags cost and either issue you a partial refund (what ever the cost of one tag would be) or just send you a replacement item.

Yes, I sent a picture of the defective card with my original email to Studio Calico.

They are standing by the fact that this is how the card was intended to look from the get go. They are claiming that they simply utilized the incorrect picture for packaging/advertising.

I would contact AC instead. They are extremely nice about replacements and CS. I merely made mention of some issues I recently had with the weight of some AC paper (from pads) on the forums and AC CS contacted ME through Peamail and offered to send me something for my trouble. I mean WOW...I didn't even contact them; they offered just to make good. I appreciate that.

If SC used the wrong picture how is that your fault? I would say that was false advertising and you deserve a replacement/refund and should ot have to pay ANYTHING out of pocket since you did nothing wrong.

If you threaten a chargeback with your credit card, they'll give you a refund. If they still don't, then actually contact your credit card and tell them what happened and they'll refund you money. I had to deal with this crap when their site sold me something they didn't have in stock, so they "offered" to give me an $8 credit.

With $8.95 shipping on any order, $8 doesn't go very far. When I said I'd rather have a refund since it was their mistake, they pushed hard about their "policy" being only store credit refunds, until I told them I was going to report it to my credit card and possibly the BBB.

This is why I no longer subscribe or shop their site. Which is a pity because I still love their designs.
