I always used to love trying to guess what the next new hot trend in scrapping (or fashion) was going to be. So anyone care to play along? What will be (or should be in your opinion) the next big thing in scrapping?

I'm going to predict that pastels will be all the rage (OMG)

Yeah foxes are becoming popular. Ugly foxes, too. They are beautiful animals but the current popular depictions are awful.

With pantones color of the year being colbalt, I'm not sure is pastels will be popular or not. But the color washed papers appear to be popular...

paper clips. They seemed to be really big in the early 2000s and seem to be wanting to reappear lately

I'm not either.

I guess foxes will be the next big thing in scrapbooking.

I'm watching a lot of Project Runway, and in the final collection looks, I am seeing a lot of blue. I am no fashion expert, but that is what I saw based on those looks. Saw some bold red/orange too.

I owned about animal prints generally- zebra tiger giraffe etc not necessarily realistic colours either eg pink and black zebra
I REALLY hope that we don't see more bottle caps....never got that first time round and now I see them creeping in again......

My favorite new trend is the natural/neutral one. Natural materials in neutral/natural colors. It's one of the big trends in fashion and home decoration. A lot of birch bark, natural wood, hemp and jute, baker's twine, linen, zink metal and colors like white, egg shell, grey, beige and soft greyish pastels like powder pink and lavendar. More often navy blue (that fashion industry now counts as a neutral!) and brown than black. Even though black and white is still big, but more in the graphic/geometrical pattern trend. Patterns: cable knits, wood, brick, birch trees etc.

And, yes, there is definitely a fox in those woods. LOL! And a deer. Not sure about the bear, though, Aeryn. But bears would be lovely, so I'm hoping for those too. I am totally in love with this new trend and I'm using it for my Dream December Journal Scrap Stash kit, with red as an accent.

Anyone else here who's drawn towards this trend?

maybe the trend is already over, but I have been noticing more and more watercolor & color-washed papers taking off, and I would expect that trend to continue for a while... I think whenever there is a product or technique trend that takes off, the paper lines follow suit after a while to help people replicate the look without necessarily investing in all the supplies (e.g. crate paper photo overlays for instagram- or hipstamatic-like phone photo filters but in manual overlay form; or color washed papers to mimic effects of gelatos and watercolored backgrounds).

Good one, Nicole! Works with pastels, water colors or bold bright. I've seen quite a few jewelry pices too. Our town is overrun with bargain accessories store like Charming Charlie and Versonai. Tons of gold disco bling there.

Paperpilekitten: I have noticed that as well in home decor, and just starting to show up in scrapping...I think it is Lawn Fawn (Into the Woods, maybe?) that has some lovely looking birch tree paper. (I looked it up the paper is actually called Sycamore but looks birchy to me!) I would link it but 2Peas doesn't seem to have it in yet...that line also has some cute foxes in it!

Nicole: yep loving the gold I have to say.

Yes! For awhile there everything was silver but gold definitely seems to be making a come back! I've bought a few gold things to scrap Christmas....(I hope silver doesn't go away, though!)

I've noticed a lot of geo tags showing up in cut files and embellishments lately.....

Well if foxes are the up and up then I hope they trot with horses! I would love to see some equestrian themes.

Foxes? I don't think I have seen one. LOL

It is not in but I want them back...FLOWERS...I miss them. I get my kit club boxes and I am frowning at all the geometrics and lack of florals.

Very interesting topic!

My guesses would be:

- copper
- "wild indian ethno west" - don't know what to call it
- dears
- more glitter /bling/pailettes

I think it is Lawn Fawn (Into the Woods, maybe?) that has some lovely looking birch tree paper.

Yes, Lawn Fawn have a gorgeous birch tree design! I have one sheet in my hot little hands right now and one more on the way!
Here's a link to their sneak peek from CHA Summer (scroll down to get to the birch paper). (sneak peek link - scroll down!)!

Oh, and now you got me started on birch tree designs - I love those!!!

So here are all the birch tree designs there is, currently (I think).

There's a brand new one from Bo Bunny! (sneak peek link - scroll down!)! Sooo lovely! Must have!

And one totally amazing on grey background in a Photo Freedom line from Echo park (sneak peek link - scroll down!)

Another beautiful grey one in Webster's Pages It's Christmas by Alison Kreft. (sneak peek link - scroll down!)

And, actually Webster's Pages had birch trees on yellow background in Park Drive from a year ago, on CHA Summer 2012! (sneak peek link - scroll down!). I have several sheets of that one!

Just can't get enough of them!
