I'm trying to use this thing and get used to it but the tape keeps coming off the roller! I've watched YouTube videos on loading the tape so I think it's in there right. As I use it, the tape slides to the left of the roller part (the part that touches the paper) and just comes right off. Any help?

Well it should run along the edge of the rubber roller, but it shouldn't roll off of course. Does it need to be pulled tauter?

I just don't see why people think I'm too patronizing (that means I treat them as if they were stupid.)

Did you put all the pieces back? There is one piece you take off that I forget to put back on, and it doesn't work so well without it.

I don't know what video you've watched, but this is the one I've found most helpful:

loading your ATG

she does it pretty fast, so I have to watch just a few seconds at a time and keep re-winding to get the steps right. I agree, you may need to tighten it up on the roller?? That's one thing I always have to make sure to do... I tend to 'use up' a roll or two (one entire crank around the roller, I mean) on scratch paper to make sure I get it going correctly.

Melissa, mine does that as well. It is BEYOND frustrating! I've even called 3M to ask about it and the guy was very unhelpful.

When I start a new roll, mine isn't too bad but as the roll gets smaller it begins to "cup" and that makes the tape run off the roller. By the end of the roll, I can only lay down 1-2inches of adhesive before having to stop and work the tape back onto the roller. Sigh.

I've come to the conclusion that the tension on my ATG has gradually gotten too tight through the yrs as it didn't used to to this when I first got my ATG 3-4yrs ago. Several months ago, I was so frustrated (after the phone call with 3M) that hubby took it and slightly unscrewed the wheel on the left (winds up the tape without adhesive). The center of that wheel has a screw in it and that is what he "loosened" every so slightly. My gun is better now, as in I can generally lay down closer to 8 inches of adhesive on the end of a roll before I have to stop and push the tape back on. I think I may have him do it again, as I think about it! I got nothing to lose.

I really love my ATG adhesive and when my gun is at the beginning of a new roll it runs great. However, that cupping starts (again I think because over time it gets too tight) and the tape runs off the roller.)

Someone also put another solution online which is to add a washer to the outside of the roller to keep the tape in place. I rather it just not wind so tight so the tape wouldn't try to come off at all! Sigh.

IN reading your post, OP is sounds like your ATG is new? If that's the case, and you are certain you are loading it properly, then I would call 3M.

There just may be something they can advise you that might help. In my case it worked great for a couple yrs but as time has gone on, it winds too tight and messes up. Obviously no longer under any "warrenty".
