Is anyone doing this in 2014? Have you thought about a word? My OLW came so easily to me last year. I sat down this evening and only narrowed my choices down to 10!

My word for 2013 was Story. I real wanted to dig up and document family stories, at least one a month. I managed to do layouts about:
- my Dad meeting Led Zeppelin
- my mum going to a World Expo
- my husband's great-grandmother immigrating to Canada
- how my mum and dad met
- how my husband's grandparents met and their wedding
- my grandparent's annual Christmas party
- my maternal grandmother's horrendous writing and the fun associated with it
- noteworthy things about my maternal grandmother
- a little about my husband's uncle (who died as a child)

I have about another 8 stories ready to go, though some are waiting on photos (that I know exist). I may yet manage a full twelve layouts before the end of the year. I also tried to document my own childhood stories, and did nearly two dozen of those. I think my year of story was a great success, and I hope for it to continue in 2014.

However, for 2014, my word is Finish.

Chriss, I loved reading about your one little word! My word for last year was release. It really challenged me to let go of a negative mindset, negative people in my life and try new things. My last blog post of this year will be about my one little word experience.

I am continuing with my word from last year: Go. I don't feel like I fully embraced it and I want to do that in 2014. I think I will use the same class from Ali Edwards as last year also as I want to make some layouts from the prompts.

I'm unsure whether I will use my word to scrap or do layouts, but I have picked my word. I need to let my word guide my financial decisions next year.

Yes. But, I'm in the process of choosing a word.

This year's word was a bust. Oddly, I am thinking of trying to use it again this year.

Still have a couple of weeks to decide.

Not really. I did do it last year (first time) and I accomplished it. My word was PROMISE.

I promised myself I would lose weight and get healthier, and I did. Now, I just need to maintain.

No idea what word I would use this year.

I'm signed up, haven't picked a word, yet. I signed up last year, and enjoyed the monthly reminders/projects, but got nothing done
I really do want to make it work this year. May use the same word, but Staci, I'm loving how & why you used the word release!! I could do that too!
My word was 'act'. As in 'get stuff done'. And yet, I didn't really make any progress with it. I'm still considering what word to go with. But I'm definitely going to give it a go

Aw, Staci, that is so sweet of you to say and I enjoyed reading about what your word meant to you! I talked myself out of it, even though it is a very reasonable price and the premise is interesting.

I'm going to still use the word that found me, and I'm thinking I'll do a 4 on the 4th type of layout each month to make sure my word is staying front and center. I also do a daily photo challenge and that helps as well.

Best wishes with 2014's journey!

No. I'm not doing it again. I'm sure for some people it functions as a jumping off point for a personal journey of growth and discovery, but for me it felt like work and like I was never doing it "right" anyway. I paid for the class but I'll be honest and say I haven't logged in since March. It wasn't for me. I may keep a word or idea in my head next year but I won't attempt to corral it into OLW.

I signed up for the class back in 2012 but my life was so stressful that I don't think I even got to March. I planned on selecting a different word and redoing the assignments another year… maybe 2014 will be that year, lol. I wonder if the class prompts change each year???

I've thought long and hard the past few weeks about what type of legacy I am leaving behind. Before your post reminded me of OLW, I had resolved to keep the word "legacy" ever before me next year. I thought following along with Ali and the ladies who sign up would be a great way to stay motivated, but after reading on Ali's blog that the group would post their journey on Facebook (I have issues with FB's business model and deleted my account a couple of years ago), I have decided to pursue my journey with my word on my own.

I have thought about it each year and have never done it. This year will probably be the same. Last year I played with the idea of the word "Less". And while I didn't do the project, the word popped up throughout the year.

I am a child of the most high God. He has promised me a plan of hope and a future (Jer 29:11)
He is enthralled with my beauty (Ps 45:11)
He rejoices over me with singing (Ze 3:17)
He bestowed on me a crown of beauty instead of ashes,
the oil of gladness instead of mourning (Is 61:3)
You see my beloved is mine and I am his. (SOS 2:16)
He can be yours too. Just ask. MT7:8

This is the 1st I heard of the OLW. I like the idea. Not sure I will sign up for the class, but I think I have chosen my work for 2014.

NOW

I have hopes that it will get me moving and perhaps keep me focused.

It will be interesting to see.

I love the idea of STORY though. What a fun use of the word.

I have chosen OLW every year with Ali. My 2013 OLW was healthy with a goal of running a 5k on my 50th birthday on 1/17/14. Not only will I be running that 5k, but I have run far too many to count including a Race for the Cure this past September.

Not sure what my OLW will be for 2014, but I will definitely be choosing one.

mindlessly. I hope by focusing on mindfulness I can change some behaviors.

I usually don't have a word resonate enough to pursue it, but this year helpful is standing out. It's both encouragement to choose to act a certain way and a criteria by which to judge what I'm up to.. How will this help me with what really matters?

I picked a word two years ago, but didn't this year.
I was thinking of picking a word for 2014.

Is there a process that you girls use to select your word?

I thought about what I NEEDED....... and there is a great word for that....but I am just not sure I could accomplish it.

Not quite sure WHERE TO START, I guess....

Any tips?

Kelster.. thank you for mentioning that you are using the same word from last year. I keep thinking that my word from last year should be the same for this year since I don't feel like I fully embraced it like I wanted too as well as keep up with the class. I took it when it was offered at BPS but won't be resigning since I still have access to my class...I was disappointed with BPS when I sent emails asking them WHY I kept receiving emails to retake the class at a discounted price.. HUH?? I still have access to the class from last year and Ali is offering the class on her own website. That didn't make sense to me at all!!!

This year I listened to the reading of the words on Ali's blog. I wrote down the words that resonated with me. I actually started with 15 and quickly narrowed them down to 10. I waited a day and looked at the list again. I tried to think of what kind of exercises I could do for my OLW. Journey happened to fit me the best. Good luck!

...and Ali, thanks for posting on this thread!

No....I'm not.
I did a OLW mini album one year when Ali Edwards announced it and made it 'big' on her blog. Felt like I was following the 'in' thing to do- peer pressure, but ended up not even following the OLW, and treating it just like any other project.
Last year I made an intention in my HEART to get fit and healthy - no fan fare, no project to announce it, just a quiet promise to myself, and I did it, reached my goal this year!!! I got fit, lost weight and ran my 1st half-marathon.
I do best when I march to my own drum beat and not care what the 'in' thing of the moment is

Amber Girl, good for you for meeting your goals! I did OLW for the first time this year and I'll admit that it did help me when I was in the eye of the storm. I don't have a ton of scrappy friends and all of them are CM scrappers (except one) so they don't know even what OLW is.

I am going to sign up for Ali's class befor 12/31...a Christmas gift to myself. I chose a word last year without taking the class and I missed it. The year before, I didn't perfectly keep up, but I loved the prompts, loved the community chat, and I think that having it on a private Facebook page is going to be easier for me that having to log into the other classroom site, so I will participate more. The price is right, and it's a feel good experience for me.

I have been doing one little word for several years. I used to do a New years resolution but it seemed so limited than one year about 8 or 9 years ago I decided to choose a word that would help me in all areas of my life. This year I am trying to decide between 2 Happy and adventure. Happy because the past couple of years we have had a lot of personal sadness. We had a house fire and lost our 2 boston terriers. that was the worse there were a few other sad points the death of a beloved family member and so on. So I am really ready to just be happy. The other is adventure because my hubby to be and I are getting married in 2014 after dating for 15 years. We are also getting out of our comfort zone and doing more outside our house and work. Not to mention we are taking our first vacation ever and going to Hawaii on our honeymoon. Please help me decide. Thanks peas.

Congratulations, Trixie, that's fabulous!!!!!!!! Agreed, either of those words would work for you, whichever you decide.

I signed up last year but didn't participate much. I didn't do much of anything, truth be told, so I am just going to go back and redo last year's prompts with 2014's word. I've chosen DO, or rather, it chose me. I have this tendency to THINK about doing all kinds of things to the point nothing gets DOne. So 2014 is the year I dust off my lists and get to work DOing!

In the past I haven't always stuck to "one" word, some years I've chosen a saying/sentence. But, my intention is the same.

For 2014 I am choosing "One day at a time" as my "word".

In past years, my word has come easily but I am struggling this year. I am engaged to be married (second marriage) and I want to document this new chapter of my life, how we are planning for the wedding and working on combining families. If anyone has any suggestions for something that would work, I would appreciate it.

I thought of Prepare and Anew but nothing has seemed to completely capture everything all rolled up into one.
