I personally prefer Scott Kelby's books. I have his PSE books for version 6 and 11. But that's just my preference, I've never looked at The Missing Manual books.

I've used products by both of these companies. Scott Kelby is an expert and does a lot of "how-to" instructions. He is a great teacher...I've even been to one of his seminars. BUT, I've found that the "Missing Manual" series pretty much covers EVERYTHING there is to know about a product. I would choose the Missing Manual. Either way, though, you will learn a lot.

I agree with Yelise. I love Scott Kelby. He does videos too. He will teach you cool techniques etc. The missing manual is exactly that .... a manual that should have been included LOL. Both are great. I think if I was a total beginner, I would start with missing manual. May I also recommend JessicaSprague.com There is not much I can't do with PS and when I started, I couldn't even understand layers in PSE! LOL She is an amazing teacher.

Never tried Missing Manual, but I do love Scott's teaching style and directions.

Both sound like good books. I'm still undecided. UGH!
