I think almost every year I ask if someone is planning on creating their own planner using scrapbooking materials and I often get interesting responses. I think a new planner is just as exciting sometimes for me just as much as getting a new line of patterned paper. I love the idea of a fresh start. But I was wondering what are you going to use for a planner for the upcoming year? I have seen so many YT videos of people decorating their Filofax pages using stickers and more. I haven't had a Filofax in years. I often do my own thing that I can edit without feeling like I already invested so much $$ into it.

But I'm wondering if anyone is or has used the Basic Grey Capture lines for creating an actual planner? I know that the lines aren't new but I hadn't seen them until recently when I went into my LSS. Or are there other lines that you have plans on using to create a personal planner. I have seen so many printable planners...

I am always intrigued with planners for the new year. And for several years I have made my own or decorated a store bought one. And for the upcoming year I got a store bought system that I am going to alter to fit my needs. I'm a heavy journaler (is that really a word?) So I need to be able to have the space for journaling. So what personal planner are you going to use for the new year??

I just wanted to come back on here and say that I made a trip to M's today. And I saw the BH new project line planner and mini albums/planners. I absolutely would be making a new planner with these supplies next year. I also say some M's brand clear dividers and also some other supplies that could easily be used and made into a personal planner. I really am liking the idea and really hope that I can bind them with the Arc binding system. I swear planners are just as fun as scrapbooking for me sometimes.

Anyone else willing to link their blog post about their planners or show your work??

Good question! I'm always obsessed w/everyone's planners and watch YouTube videos about them. I'm always in search of the "perfect planner". 2013 I used Erin Condren. Very pretty, great quality paper, sturdy binding. I'm not using EC this year cuz (1) it's too expensive at $50 and (2) while I like the design and the colors, it's just too large. While I do like to journal things in my planners, I still prefer a purse-sized (5 x 8" at the largest). So for 2014, I bought the Mead 5 x 8" weekly/monthly planner, took that annoying fake black leather cover off and had the brilliant idea to put my Cinch to work and make my own covers plus inside pockets. This was my second time using The Cinch and I don't think I quite get it yet. I CANNOT get ends of my spiral wire to bend right. Also, I think it's too thick a book for that 1" spiral wire. NEXT year, I think I'll try a Lily Pulitzer or Jonathan Adler agenda.

If you make or alter one yourself, please post. Love to see it!

I bought the ARC by Staples planner and have already started to decorate it. I haven't uploaded all the pics to my blog but here is a link to what I've finished so far.

I have had it for two weeks and I finally just altered the front cover. I still have plans to add several small scrapbooking pages to the inside to show the pics from 2013 of the family but I haven't started that yet.

But I will upload a few pics of what I have done to it so far. I wanted the EC planner and even thought about it long and hard, but there was one thing about it that I couldn't just get over and order it. And honestly it wasn't the price, it was the vertical lines for each day. I loved the month on two pages but the vertical lines one the weekly layout out would have driven me nuts. I absolutely need horizontal lines for my weekly calendar section. And it was the only thing that made me not purchase her calendar. Because I like to journal and that's mostly what I use the weekly calendar pages for.

Thanks everyone... anyone willing to share their planners? It honestly isn't about the brand. I'm hoping that this planner stands the test of time. I loved my planner from last yr but the cover (which allowed me to make a scrapbook pg and was the best part of the planner) broke in May and then came completely off in September. That one was really nice and the price was perfect. It was bigger which is good for writing but it was hard to carry in my purse.

Lol, if only my DH could see this thread! I have a thing for planners you could say! For 2014 I am using a 6 x 8 scrapbook from Bo Bunny (I think I posted somewhere else it was a Simple Stories). It's vintagy looking, which I love. I finally sat down tonight and entered in all the dates and bdays. I bought a set of Heidi Swapp mini folders, cut them in half and will be using them as section dividers. The other half I'll be cutting up for either PL or decoration in my planner. That's as far as I've gotten but I'll be prettying it up with some bling and quotes. Will post when I get a chance!

Paperpileprincess, those dividers are on my list of products to get for my 2015 calendar. They are absolutely perfect for dividers. Its great that crafters seem to see the potential of a project and use it in a whole different way.

I'm in the process of making a doc to make pg or card sketches. I'm excited about having that in my planner.

Borcherding, EC planners are really pretty. I have to admit that I was intrigued with them too. I say if it works for you go for it.

I like what you've done so far w/the Arc. And what a handsome family you have!

I have a similar disc-based system from a very long time ago (probly 10+ years) - the Rollabind I think it was called. I've used it exactly once - I took the spiral out of a sketchbook and replaced it w/those discs. I have no idea why I did that and couldn't even tell you where it's at right now (my guess is in the garage w/a ton of other boxes of crap from my move into the house). If memory serves, I think there's a pic of it in my gallery here but it's only the cover and I don't think I ever used it.

I would suggest to pull it out and use it but I don't wish hard work on anyone right now (considering my back issues). Thanks for the compliment. I remember the rollabind system. I think circa was another brand back then too? I also had another binding system I could've used but the BIA drives me nuts when it comes to getting each page to line up perfectly.

I did a handmade 8x8 planner a few years ago and just re-posted it on my blog along with the instructional video. It was really fun but it took A LOT Of cardstock and paper. I used a SEI Preservation Series scrapbook as the base- I don't know if those are even around any more.

I have been contemplating the Arc but I can't justify the punch for it Do you find that you need the specific punch much? I would really just need it for the calendar and some journaling (PL type) as I keep most everything else in a little one in my purse (but it is not big enough for journaling). And do you have issues with the discs or items falling out in your purse? I am not sure how it all works lol

Caitlynsmommy, I made several pages, dividers, sections and lined notes pgs so I needed the punch. But it would take alot of craft knife cutting to get pgs on your discs. So the major con is the cost of the actual punch. But the notebook comes with lined paper, covers. The refills for it were 2.99. In fact most things for the planner are 2.99 but the actual planner monthly and weekly pgs come together in a pack for 9.99 at my local staples.

So you could absolutely take $25 and get what you need for your planner and not get the punch. As for durability... so far so good. I have been using my planner for a little over a month and it has no sighs of damage yet. It was been in my purse and no pgs have fallen out. It has been tested and so far so good.

Kerrybarker, awesome video and planner. There are a couple of ideas you shared that I will have to try in my planner!

I just started this as well, I'm using a combination of the ARC system and old pages from the 5 x 8 Circo? system from Levenger. I have been using this system for years as just a notebook with a couple of dividers in it, but recently made the plunge and bought the punch so I could design my "perfect" planner. I think it's going to take a while to get it right.

I have sections for my calendar, to do/shopping, meal planning, projects, and work.

So far all I've done is used some washi tape to decorate the dividers. I am trying to design my own pages to print out, something with a food journal on one side (kind of like weight watchers) and notes on the other side. Not sure if I'm going to try to print them in color, or just do it at home in black and white.

Mine has a clear cover on the front I want to embellish and I bought some clear page protectors I plan to use for pictures of my family.

My kids LOVE to color so I am going to buy some extra discs to make some mini coloring books for them: blank paper, construction paper, maybe some printouts from the internet and a pocket for crayons and stickers. I'll probably make covers for them using cardboard and patterned paper.

I love the ideas! I made myself a Date/Planner/Appointment book instead of buying one. Mostly for appointments during my work day. I used my appointment book from last year. I used white out and a copier to make pages for this year. I created a few journaling spots and a place for notes. I was going to use my bind it all to bind the pages together. But then I was at Michaels and saw their brand (Recollections I think) 3-ring small binder in with the Smash stuff. It was so cute I used my coupon and I bought it for $6.49. Here is the post from my blog.

scraphop, thanks so much. I'm hoping that if I continue to cute it up I will not be tempted to make another one and use that instead. I haven't done it before but the thing is the supplies at M's was really tempting me to purchase them and use them right away. LOL

melissamom39, your planner isn't helping me not be tempted. LOL it is awesome! I love the colors of it. I'm going to make myself resist and not go out and replace this one. I have never done that but for some reason now that I have so many choices I want to try them all. I don't know if more choices is a good or bad thing?

jennymess, does the punch for the circo line up perfectly with the ARC system? I assume that it would, I ask because their portable punch is half the price of the ARC one and that seems like a better deal than to get the one from Staples.
