DH is wanting me to use my cameo to cut him some things out of viynl. Where can I get viynl in store? Or do I have to order it online? What setting should I use? And are there any other tips I should know.?
TIA
Krissa

You can order on ebay. You don't need to buy the Silhouette vinyl, any sign vinyl will work. You may even be able to purchase some from a local sign shop if you have one. It would probably be much cheaper to either buy it from a local sign shop or on ebay, rather than the marked up vinyl sold under the Silhouette brand.

This is where I have bought mine from in the past (full rolls) www.signwarehouse.com

If you want perm vinyl look at orcal 651 if you want removable look at 631. craftvinyl.com is one of my fave stores for both.

HL, J, and M all carry the cricut vinyl. HL has their own store brand as well. Those are all "temporary or removable" type vinyl. Meaning that they have a relatively low residue of adhesive.

I have had bad luck with the Silhouette vinyl. It doesn't even stick to the release sheet long enough to cut properly. My cuts with Sil vinyl never turn out.

I bought the Orcal vinyl from Amazon and it works wonderfully. I got a pack of 20 some colors for $30. It sticks well and I like it.

I get my vinyl from a local sign shop.

As for what settings to use, open the cut settings window, choose vinyl (Silhouette brand is listed, but doesn't matter), and adjust your blade to 2 (or whatever the machine tells you, it tells me 2, and it cut my vinyl perfectly last night).

I buy all my vinyl from Expressionsvinyl.com.

They have so May colors to choose from for indoor, outdoor, heat transfer, printable, and whatever you need as in supplies for your cutter, transfer tape in all different sizes and their price are very reasonable.

Test your cut--I cut my non Silhouette vinyl on 1. But cut the Silhouette vinyl on 2.

I just ordered from craftvinyl.com. They had pretty good prices and selection and they shipped quickly.

I WOULD AVOID CRAFTVINYL LIKE THE PLAGUE...the guy is seriously wacked!
expressions vinyl, hhsign supply and justforcrafters.com are really good places to buy vinyl.

Silhouette vinyl is not very good vinyl. I use oracal 651 (permanent) 631 (removable) and green star is supposed to be good also.

You will also need transfer tape (I use clear, medium tac..from any of the places listed above)

CraftVinyl.com has great prices - but they don't call him the Vinyl Nazi for no reason! LOL - NO VINYL FOR YOU! Just read EVERYTHING carefully before ordering, or he will cancel your order.

ExpressionsVinyl.com is a lot easier to deal with.

Cricut Vinyl, Silhouette Vinyl, and Paper Studios Vinyl (hobby lobby) are terrible. Don't buy them - you will be frustrated!

Unless they've changed in the recent years...the Cricut vinyl IS oracal 631. The back even still had the logo and everything on the backing paper.

And according to Cricketvinylsupplies.com

Oracal 631 Matte vinyl is the best material for your Cricut projects. Oracal is the same brand used for Cricut Vinyl, Provo Craft Vinyl, Silhouette Vinyl, Pazzles Vinyl, and all other vinyl found in crafting and department stores.

They did change - and maybe they have changed back to the Oracal now. The first vinyl I bought was "cricut vinyl" and it was Oracal (WAY WAY WAY overpriced though). Then I bought some more in a pinch and it was NOT oracal. So maybe they just used some other brand for a while - but if you are not sure, don't buy it. Besides it is about 4x more than ordering it online. Crazy!

Cricut vinyl is no longer Oracal. It is similar to the paper studio brand from Hobby Lobby...very thin, cheap vinyl. Difficult to weed and to stick.

Why is he the vinyl nazi? What has he done? I just ordered and it was easy to order and my order already arrived. I didn't notice any steps to the ordering process where I could have made a mistake.

Don't forget that you will need transfer tape with your vinyl to easily lift your vinyl design from the carrier and adhere it to your project! I find that clear transfer tape is the easiest to use.

He can get a little touchy about orders. You MUST read all his rules. I have ordered from him and had GREAT service. Fast shipping - no problem. They started calling him the vinyl Nazi, after the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. NO SOUP FOR YOU! LOL - it was mostly a joke.

It has relaxed some. He now takes PayPal, which seems to have helped a bunch. He also has some great give aways and discount days - you can find them on Facebook - his page or the All Things Silhouette page.

But if you don't follow a rule, or sometimes even just ask if an order has been shipped - he will cancel your whole order - poof - done. There is a Facebook group that he is very tied in with and if you so much as questioned anything about your order - NO VINYL FOR YOU!

If you want to order key chain blanks or something like that, and vinyl - you have to make out two separate orders.

That is odd. On an old message board post (I think at the cricut board) I saw where a few people asked about shipping and not only were told shipping dates, a couple were given upgraded faster shipping. This was a few years ago so in the "vinyl nazi" time period. I can't even imagine what rules there could be for ordering. Don't you just put stuff in the cart, pay, and that's it?

I'm on a silhouette group on fb and he posts there and seems very nice...

Anyway I couldn't find any rules on the site. Maybe he's changed it. As for separate orders for different type items, I've seen that on some other small business type sites.

He is very nice. He can also be not so nice. I think he was threatening to turn some in to the IRS once.. don't know what in the world that was about - lol!

Like I said, I have ordered from him and had great service. So have a ton of people. And there are other who he has gone bat shit crazy on, for no apparent reason other than they didn't follow the "rules".

I really couldn't find the "rules" page anymore. There used to be along page on how to order from him. It seems once he went to PayPal - things smoothed out.
